@@carlalussiniI believe the dialect coach wanted Jacob to do a historical creole accent which was famous during the 1900s (if I’m not mistaken). However, Jacob didn’t like it and find it difficult to understand so he tried to listen to the locals like taxi drivers. So, the NOLA accent he did in the series is somewhat mostly modern blend with the older accent as it was more palatable. I think Bailey Bass tried it but I’m not sure if it is the old creole yet you might be able to compare their differences.
Omg. I had no idea u were watching this. Its a crime that this show did not receive any Emmy nominations in 2022. This show is so so so good. Acting, dialogue, custome designs, set design, everything.
It was a book series. Then a movie. Now a series. All hail Anne Rice. And Anne Rice vampires are actually scary. the grandfather of Vampire Diaries. love this actor’s portrayal of Lestat. Also the Damon shirt is on point.
Imagine if The Vampire Diaries had creative directing behind it. Apart from a few episodes (most of which including the original vampires), the show was really lacking in cool looking scenes. Imaging if we had scenes like the one were Lestat slowed down that running priest. The TVD scene where Elijah throws a few coins through a glass wall was one of the few times the show decided to be creative, every other time, they just pluck out a heart in the most boring way possible.
also, don't be ashamed of liking or slightly enjoying lestat. he is all kinds of fucked up but he is a hell of a character. this series is basically about learning to understand, if not inherently forgive, people who can't live a moral existence. though these characters fall outside of what you would rationally forgive, they are still begging you to love them and understand them which i find so fascinating. the show does a really good job at showing their humanity as monsters and outcasts who deserve to be outcasts, and it is constantly asking you if you have mercy and if you can love them despite all the horrible things they do. it's a hell of a ride. and this doesn't just apply to lestat, it applies to louis as well, and the other new characters you will get to know in the series and season 2. just a kind reminder to not feel guilty if you feel a certain affinity for any of them as they are very likeable as they are terrible terrible people 😊 btw the scene where he says he wanted to be a priest is 100% true, his dad was an evil man and very abusive. and though this show is very much about louis, as he is THEE vampire and an extraordinary character (jacob anderson come get your flowers!!!), you will still see much more of lestat and his past in this season and in season 2! i'll shut up now thank you guys for reacting to this beloved show 🥺
@@eliselevi109 ...It's a common figure of speech used for liking characters but not the personification qualities of people they are based from so yes if you're asking if people who kill exist they do, if you're asking if people who threaten to ra** others exist they do, both Lestat has traits of and many more but we acknowledge the character is well-written and liked from a character perspective over the personifications taken from despicable human beings to give the character in this case a Vampire monstrous traits despite being charming.

Is it a sign of bad writing when a showrunner and author have to confirm something in their story or is it a sign of ignorance in the audience? As an aspiring writer, i need to know if this is a flaw on our side that i need to be aware of.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 It's clear in the book that Lestat had nothing to do with Paul's death. His death is one of the catalysts that starts the chain of events in the story. It seems clear to me in the show as well, but maybe that's because it's something I already knew?
@@rexibhazoboa7097 you can have ambiguity with writer's intent like the point is that LOUIS believes Lestat could've had something to do with it and that alone can drive a character. in this case it's not necessarily ignorance we can choose to believe Lestat's innocence or not regardless of confirmation.

Louis was in a dark place emotionally. He lost his brother, his mom and sister turned from him, and then the two people he could turn and talk to - lily and the priest - were both murdered. Then lestat comes in and starts love bombing him. Im not surprised louis falls for it and decides to turn.
The thing to add is Louis sexuality and the period in which he lived in and the culture in which he was brought up in , as a queer person brought up in a super religious community lestat offer of companion ship for eternity would have been so enticing and dreamy even with all the wrongs committed by lestat and who lestat is . The feeling of isolation, loneliness, otherness and not belonging swapped for eternal love and admiration seems pretty pretty good to me and as we saw for Louis as well 🤭
Man, Jacob Anderson is so good in this - the code-switching he does depending on Louis' environment, and that confession scene at the end of this episode... Really fantastic work. I can't wait to see where his career goes in the future.

Anne Rice's Vampires are kinda the bases for most modern Vampire lore. The exchange of blood to turn someone being the most notable bit of lore that is prevalent. No Lestat did not need Louis permission to turn him he just has a thing about consent when turning people because he wasn't given a choice when he was turned by his maker. Paul unfortunately did unalive himself, it's not apart of the plot that's why I'm telling you but Lestat had no reason to kill Paul. Also Anne Rice's Vampires powers are pretty interesting so just be prepared, it a really fun show.
Thought it was very clear that Louis’ brother was suffering from some degree of schizophrenia, hearing voices, and his death, especially with how he was talking right before it, was very much intentional on his part. He had protested the marriage, but he was up on that roof asking for reassurance that his sister would be happy and taken care of, that his brother wasn’t dealing with bad men anymore, and he just came off probably one of the most happy nights of his recent life. He was able to dance with his brother, having fun like they were when they were younger, at his sister’s wedding. He climbed that roof a man ready to die, put an end to his struggle, with that as his final day. He was a man suffering from mental illness, wanting his last day to be a happy day with his family. And just like Lestat said later, he had wanted to die for a long time. So yeah, just because Lestat is a vampire who doesn’t care much for human life doesn’t mean he’s doing bad shit for the hell of it all the time. Honestly, he’s a romantic.

This Lestat is one of my favorite vampires in any show. He's so appealing and draws you in like what a real vampire should be doing. He's also so frighteningly scary but you still want to be near him. ❤❤❤ Damon does that in season 1 😂🤣 You guys should all watch the movie too! It's Brad Pitt as Louie and Tom Cruise as Lestat. Antonio Banderas is Armand in the movie, although Armand is supposed to be a young blond boy. The movie was almost perfection! ❤

Season 2 is going to blow the first season out of the water. Fun fact the man bleeding from the head at the start is the voice of Bender in Futurama.

Louis is basically an abuse victim from the start. Lestat shows up in his life and builds a bond with him. Then isolates him by taking away the other two ppl that kept him grounded in this life. He now has no support system and his mother and living family aren’t any help. so now only lestat can be his life source. Lestat didn’t use his powers to get Louis to agree to turn, but he essentially broke him down and forced him to make a choice when he was at his lowest point.
Oh totally awesome we need more reactions on RU-vid to this show because it's amazing and incredible it became one of my favorite shows I'm obsessed/hooked Season 2 premieres on May 12th cannot wait!!! Jacob Anderson & Sam Reid and the whole cast and crew are so phenomenal. They all will hopefully get Emmy's next time around. Also correction this show is NOT a remake of the 1994 movie. This show is an adaptation of the whole Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles Book Series(their is 13 books) the 1994 movie was also an adaptation of only the first book Interview With The Vampire.
Yes, the city shown in the beginning is Dubai. The rest is my hometown Nola. I recommend watching the 1994 movie, as well. One can never go wrong with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise in their prime. Kirsten Dunst also nailed her role despite being so young.

Louis was suicidal and he always felt that he had to wear a mask in front of people, so lestat's words, as he says, "disharmed" him, he felt understood for the first time in his life and he'd been feeling desperate so he agreed on his own, granted Lestat didn't explain much lol Louis just knew he had "tricks" and he ate people like a monster But Lestat struck him at his weakest when he felt he had no one to confide in anymore, killed miss Lily and the priest... he might have seen it as a second chance at life
Random but I always forget this show (and every other iteration) is called Interview with THE Vampire and not with A vampire haha but it makes sense because Louis is really THE guy, so he is absolutely THE one and only lol
Now that I watched it again, I wonder if Paul started crying during Lestat talking about his father due to his own experiences. Lestat said he was locked away and in between beatings his faith in Christ faded. In the scene before Louis is hesitant to a mental home saying he was worse from last time and Louis even said he would still be there is their dad was alive. Knowing how mental health was addressed then I wouldn’t be surprised If Paul was abused in there and Lestat triggered some memories of that time in him.
personally I think how lestat convinced Louis to say yes was well #1 obviously Louis was already in a very vulnerable position feeling depressed and rejected by both his family and society while lestat is here saying he loves him and that he can love him forever but #2 I also believe that lestat was using some compulsion powers also cause as much as Louis could love him or whatever how could he have ignored what lestat did in the church plus him possibly making his brother off himself

I'm glad you're reacting to Interview With The Vampire. There is a companion series to this called Mayfair Witches. Another Anne Rice based series set in New Orleans. Mayfair's 1st season doesn't have a any cross over but in the book series characters from both do cross over.

But like Herbert with his Dune saga....... She liked to throw curve balls. Do not think what you are seeing is all that is there. Anne liked to play "mind tricks" like her greatest creation.... I can't wait for this reaction series! Having been a fan of the Anne Rice novels on which this show is based, and the original 90s movie adaptation, I must say I really enjoyed this series.
The show is nothing like the books, but I still like it as its own thing. I do love how they took the gay subtext and made it plot like Anne Rice wished
Anne Rice is the mother of modern day vampires. She was the one that made them human and beautiful, instead of just a monster like Dracula. TVD would not exist without Anne’s influence. This is honestly a great series of books. I’d recommend reading them after as there are a lot of changes.

If you are wondering why Lestat has so much power, it's because he's not some ordinary vampire. To avoid spoilers, I'll just say that he has had encounters with the most ancient vampires prior to the events of this story which left him very powerful.
23:05 It's not that Lestat is actually slowing things down, as such (though his extended psychokinetic abilities help with that), but rather he is moving so quickly that things around him slow down by comparison -- similar to, in superhero movies, when heroes with superspeed move/react.
I don't know if its just me, but I didn't read Lestat as compelling people. I don't think he compelled Louis to accept his dark gift. He spoke to a man who was utterly broken and basically affirmed him as a person deserving of being loved for who he is and in that moment it was all he hang to cling to so he went with it cause anything else was better than what he had been feeling. He obviously gets in people's head, but it just seems like his private way of conversing or in some cases unnerving others maybe? Lestat that whole last scene was telling Louis to come to him in his head, but he didn't. From what I saw could tell in the episode, Lestat very much looks down upon being dishonest and I would think it is very out of character for him to lie about anything cause he sees it as shameful to hide yourself. As far as Paul, I think his belief that the Devil was here was his trigger to say I'm out and he even made a point of making sure his family was okay in his eyes before going through with it. He asked if Louis believed Levi loved and would give everything of himself for his sister. He made sure that Louis was no longer associated with the Devil. He was saying his goodbye that whole scene and his final words were I love you to his brother. So with all that being said and with it seeming like Lestat doesn't have the power to compel (unless that comes up later or something haha), it didn't seem to me that he had anything to do with Paul's death.
This show is amazing. I LOVE THE BOOKS. Anne Rice created such great and deep story. The original movie is really a classic. So excited you guys are watching it. ❤
Hey guys 😆. This is not a remake of the movie, but an adaptation from the book by Anne Rice. Seems you haven’t read the books, there’s about 11 of them. And AMC has acquired the rights to all of them, plus the right to the Mayfair Witches books. Which they also made a series about. They plan to connect the two words eventually, under the name Immortal Universe. There’s subtle references on this series to the Mayfair Witches series.
You guys should watch the movie because the changes made was IMPECCABLE but the way it still tells the story is AMAZING!!! Edit: Also, in love with the soundtrack

Interview with the Vampire is my favorite book series, I highly, highly recommend it. Anne Rice was an amazing author who could describe a scene so clearly she could transport you there. I hated the first movie adaptation, because Tom Cruise as Lestat was literally ridiculous. The subsequent movies were better in my opinion and I love this series. I'm also waiting for season 2 of the Mayfair Witches, also adapted from another book series by Anne Rice, Lives of the Mayfair Witches.
lestat didn’t compel louis to do anything during the episode, at least not technically. he just used regular old human manipulation. louis wasn’t put under any sort of “spell”, he was just hopeless. lestat left him with absolutely nothing, so of course he’d say yes when lestat promises to love him forever. he literally has nobody else.
