Yeah I can't imagine them changing such an important aspect of Armand's character. There's so much menace in the final scenes of s2. The way Armand hovers over Louis and Daniel, the way he placed in the foreground and that dramatic ass reveal. I take nothing involving Armand at face value.

@@vampirequeen1462 What does any of that have to do with anything that I said? Nobody was talking about anyone calling themselves a book fan without having read the books. We were talking about the relevancy of spoiler warnings and whether or not a book being old enough somehow negates the necessity of issuing a spoiler warning as if what happens or not should be common knowledge which everybody should already know or totally irrelevant because nobody new is ever going to read it for themselves anyhow. Spoiler warnings never expire, because there will always be new people reading the books, and because something being old doesn't at all automatically guarantee that what happens or not has somehow become common knowledge that everyone has. It doesn't have anything to do with anybody claiming to be a book fan without reading the books or not.

Possible explanation: Armand keeps Louis hoodwinked about his fuckery all the way up to the present day...possibly needing Daniel to point out what's been right in front of his face the whole time...and the season climaxes with the confrontation this leads to.

The Louis and Armand ‘love of my life’ scene at the end of season 1 with Armand’s glare and Louis smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes looked a lot like the final scene of the graduate to me. So even though they’re still together I do think they’re just in going through the motions stage much like their relationship in the book with them breaking up at the end of the season (and maybe with Daniel and Armand season 3…)

Yeah... he definitely looked like he was trying to convince someone, or like he was maybe starting to question his previous belief in a fact he had formerly believed was so solid but had recently been challenged, so just because he made that claim doesn't necessarily mean that it's an actual truthful or irrevocable fact! (Especially not in a world where supernatural mind-control and such is a very real possibility, too.)

the final scene of the graduate BINGO Rolin Jones references that in his little interview at the end of the episode. Rolin's favorite book in the series is TVL and why he wanted to do this IP at all, he also hinted to a fan at SDCC before season one that Armand and Daniel's relationship is going to come up at some point...Armand and Louis are definitely not going to be a happy healthy couple and I can't wait to see the shit hit the fan tbh

I am wondering if they might’ve changed Madeleine’s role from a doll maker to a seamstress. I mean the doll maker metaphor doesn’t work as well with Claudia being a tween now however it could work better with dresses. Perhaps Claudia meets Madeline when looking for a costume for the theater and sees this grieving mother who made cute little dresses for her pre pubescent daughter and continues to do so even after she’s gone. That’s why Madeline falls for Claudia in this version, a perfect young girl that can wear her creations forever and never leave her. I feel like that substitution is gothic enough to fit Edit: I swear I wrote this before I saw the scene in the textile shop 😂

My guess is that the play Armand writes is a telling of Louis, Lestat and Claudia's lives in New Orleans. The 3 bees in the play represent the 3 little bees that play Nicky's song in Lestat's music box. Claudia is dressed as a child when they're retelling how Louis rescued her from the fire. It even looks like there might be a telling of a guy (Louis?)being seduced to become a vampire. Armand would totally mock them (especially Lestat) with their own story. And then, at the end of the story, it's revealed that they killed Lestat, and are REALLY on trial for his murder. Agh!! I can't wait. I hope they can finish this season. What do you think? 36:03 They are in the 40s in Paris which was occupied by the the Germans at the time, and historically Paris hadn't been back to normal until around the 50s. I could see there being a bit of trouble with getting larger crowds during that time. Also after WWII is when the Grand Guignol (and the copycat or actually theater in this fictional universe?)was historically starting to lose patrons.

i feel like the "all vampires are bi" comes with age. like most vamps start out homo or hetero, some bi, but as they age and they realize gender and sex etc do no matter, they become more open to the thought of a partner from the same gender. so claudia started out straight but as she aged began to notice both men and women
@lorehammer40k4
@lorehammer40k4 11 месяцев назад
It's more that Anne Rice's vampires have no human sex drive, it's all about blood. They aren't picking partners based on genitals because they aren't all that interested in sex, it's about love and companionship. For example, on the night Marius turns Pandora, she essentially demands that they have sex (as that's the only way she knew of expressing intimacy) and Marius humors her. There is no climax and they eventually sort of just get bored and she talks about how pointless and unfulfilling it was in comparison after they start to feed on each other. In Queen of the Damned, Lestat is being bathed by a bunch of mortal women and says this: “I studied my reflection-my chest was like a marble torso in a museum, that white. And the organ, the organ we don’t need, poised as if ready for what it would never again know how to do or want to do, marble, a Priapus at a gate.” So, by human standards, saying all vampires are bi isn't accurate, it's more like they're all asexual but not aromantic, if you see what I mean.
@MavenoftheEventide
@MavenoftheEventide 11 месяцев назад
Here's how Lestat explains it: "Now when it comes to loving others, caring about them, respecting them, becoming involved with them, no, gender means nothing to me. Almost all vampires ultimately transcend gender concerns in their social and emotional relationships." And Anne Rice herself said it this way: "Lestat is bi-sexual and always was. And all my vampires transcend gender in their orientation." If you like the word "pan" better than "bi" you can use that. But what she meant is that gender stops mattering to them entirely in who they are attracted to.
@theredmistiscoming609
@theredmistiscoming609 11 месяцев назад
@@MavenoftheEventide yes but that’s in regards to the books where the vampires don’t even have sex. But in the show they do have sex. In the books it’s more about love and companionship, whereas in the show it seems it’s about that and sexual attraction. So I think maybe Claudia started out only focusing on men bc she was young, but as she matured as a vampire that focus extended to women too. Also vampires don’t procreate so there’s no genetic drive for male vampires to seek out female vampires or vice versa which means they can and do “mate” with any gender. But that’s just my theory lol.

I can see that happening with Claudia, because before she was coming from a very young girls perception of life; she was taught. During that time period homosexuality was really frowned upon. Remember how Louis mother was looking at him with distant. And maybe her experience with Bruce a.k.a Killer cause her to change her feelings towards men. And the fact that she grew to hate Lastat, and now her relationship with Louis seems to be unstable. I can see her losing trust of men and since Louis basically choose Lastat over her. Louis was most likely the last man she probably felt she could trust and rely on. Once that bond of trust was broken she felt him pull away from her. These events could definitely have changed her view points on what and who she sees as love and romance.

I have a theory (which is probably wrong) that like other vampires have powers, Armand’s power may have something to do with memory manipulation/amnesia, because he is so old and powerful. Maybe they'll try to play the unreliable narrator card with Louis by having him under Armand's control, considering there is a sort of precedent in the book, Armand seems to like telling stories, and manipulating them, and Louis already has had a moment of remembering what actually happened after presenting a different version of the facts...or maybe it 's just wishful thinking

We definitely already know Louis is an unreliable narrator, that's kind of the entire premise of the show, but I was also under the impression that Armand was psychically dominating Louis, in the same way he tried to do when they first met and like he pretty much ended up doing when they "get together" later on. The only reason Louis actually even tried resisting the first time was because of Claudia, so once she was gone he just sort of... went along with it. Plus, the way he said "the love of my life" and the music in the scene and all of that just really gave off those vibes, although to be fair we are making a lot of assumptions based on book information that could very easily be changed.

@@danilogenovese8735 I agree, for sure, but I do have to say that these showrunners have proven to me that they are capable of telling their own good and compelling stories within the framework of Anne's universe. I trust them to tell a story I'll enjoy by now, even if it's not the exact book I've been such a fan of for so long. Lots of people were really just getting super triggered that they had a black Louis/Claudia or changed the time period, or "sHoVeD dOwN oUr ThRoaTs" that their was an obvious relationship happening between Louis and Lestat (although honestly anyone that makes that claim has clearly never read the books, although I guess to be fair their relationship in the books is more romantic without the more human sexual components shown on the show, but still, my point stands) and all this other crap, but in my experience they're all "go woke go broke" braindead idiots with absolutely no understanding of, care for, or connection to these stories, like the Barbie movie idiocy going on. I've always approached it as sort of it's own story. It obviously has never even claimed to be a direct 1-to-1 adaptation of the books so like that's clearly not the "same" Louis as from the books (although I would actually argue he's a more interesting and fleshed out character than OG Louis in a lot of ways). I have no problem with diverging from the source material, as long as it's clear you're still respecting it and tell a story that's good, and that's exactly what I've gotten from this show so far, so I think they've earned the benefit of the doubt for a while, at least from me.
@danilogenovese8735
@danilogenovese8735 11 месяцев назад
@@lorehammer40k4 I'm on board with changes and adaptations and, maybe because I'm not a super Lestat fan, I liked most of theirs, still, I think that the fundamental behavioural patterns and ways of thinking of the characters should be kept as untouched as possible, and this version of the Armand and Louis relationship seems to be in conflict with who those two characters should be, unless they found a way to insert a major form of manipulation. Considering the changes to the timeline in the show, Armand has yet to live through some experiences and therefore still has the time to evolve and grow and change, like he does in the books, so I think they can make something good with his storyline as well. My only actual concern is that, if they want to add these elements of manipulation and twisted facts, that they wait too long for the reveal and it's going to feel rushed how they resolve them, or try to make it into the major plot of the next season, if we get one, when there's already so much to explore without retelling what they have already shown.
@lorehammer40k4
@lorehammer40k4 11 месяцев назад
@@danilogenovese8735 Ah, okay, I can definitely see the argument that they absolutely should have had at least some clues sprinkled in about Armand's incredibly powerful psychic ability to manipulate others. I really do understand their desire to leave it on a cliffhanger, and it was a decent one, but if they are intending to take that route there really should have been at least a bit more foreshadowing, and it'll definitely be a huge missed opportunity if that is the path they decide to take.

18:52 Something I'm kind of just stumbling on. The idea of 'age difference seems to be implemented in different ways for different genres of 'immortal' relationships. Some i'm admittedly more ok with and others. I HATE to use Twilight as a example but its the first thing that pops to my mind when thinking of 'prime examples'. Relatively young person falling in love with a 100, 200, 300 year old vampire. That I'm ok with. Two consenting adults, whatever. However in both twilight and more and more werewolf fiction i've been coming across, we get like, werewolf falling in love with someone with a decent age different and then fine waiting until.let's face it...it's legal for them to be together? Even one I read recently was like a 10 year old werewolf falling in love with a 16 or so year old and even though they would go on to know each other for several years, all the other wolves are just like 'yeah we know our 10 year old is going try to get with you when he's 17/18 and you will be 24 an that's perfectly fine with us'.....? That i'm more readily opposed to and just wondering why that seems to happen more and more with werewolves? Can i blame Stephanie Meyer for this? I kind of want too.

Perhaps they thought if Daniel was going to try something untoward, like trying to slay Louis or something, Daniel would be more likely to do so if he didn't know another vampire was present; or maybe it's just the fact that Daniel tried to get Louis to turn him in the past, an act which Louis' conscience does not sit so well with except when in particularly self-destructive moods, which Armand may be wanting to safeguard Louis from or something? Or perhaps Armand is being overbearingly controlling and manipulative and insisted on being present and supervising, but maybe Louis insisted Armand do so discreetly then if he must there at all? The possibilities do go on!

48:33 "Anne Rice's characters weren't masculine enough, so now we punch holes in priest's heads" I'm actually siding the showrunners here. I don't think masculinity has anything to do with it. Sure, Lestat in the books is neat, but this is a VISUAL medium we are talking about, tv viewers need to SEE his monstrosity. There aren't a lot of ways to do it visually besides using good ol' blood and gore. Also, how boring would neat vampires be on screen lol. Side note: this whole video was so passive aggressive. I get the feeling you can't let go of the books and it's getting in the way of letting you simply enjoying a good show. That's totally fine, but why make a 1-hour breakdown filled with thinly veiled snarks and nitpicks? Why not just voice your critiques with conviction? 😭Cos this smiley happy voice + indirect hate sounds exhausting for both you and and your viewers.

Agreed, excellent comment! This is why a lot of the newbies roast us book readers and call us toxic 🤦🏾‍♀️. Sure, I’ll have my lips pursed when the show doesn’t include something that I feel is essential, but that’s all. Sam Reid as Lestat makes everything better for me. As someone who’s read all the VC books, loves vampires and dark fiction in general, I am thoroughly enjoying this show, and I think some of the changes were made for the best. Louis being a black creole man gave us Jacob Anderson, and the rich history of Storyville. Jacob really brought Louis to life for me in a way that I always wanted for book Louis. I’m excited to see how everything unfolds next season within in this new timeline. I forgot to mention the age up for Daniel. What are they going to have Eric doing with Assad? @@unbowedqueen Plus, the look on Louis' face was essentially, "Who do you think you're kidding? I can literally read your mind." Maybe Louis' letting Daniel come to terms with his sexuality in his own time and not outing Daniel to himself. Plenty of people don't realize they're queer until way late in their lives. Especially when they're masc and come from a specific generation. That could be the case with Daniel. He may be in huge denial. Maybe he's "blaming" his queerness on drugs or something, and has convinced himself he's straight now that he's sober. *eye roll* That's literally something that I did (and I do mean LITERALLY), so I can see that being the case for Daniel.

In the book Marius tells Lestat that turning a lot of vampires in a short space of time makes the vampires they make weaker, He turned Gabrielle, Nicki, Louis and Claudia in a 8 year period being quite a young vampire himself. Perhaps this may explain why Claudia in the series is unable to turn others, even though she has a larger size than she did in the book, although if they stick to Lestat being turned in the 1780's like he was in the books, then that would mean that there would be around 155 or so years between Nicki and Louis, so I guess that point doesn't count either.

I wonder if the way Louis' recollections of events were being called into question by Daniel with kind of multiple different possible versions being shown on screen was meant to hint at unreliable narration and the fact that possibly just because we see something play out a certain way or hear a certain character claim that it happened a particular way doesn't necessarily always have to mean that's actually how it did play out exactly? Or perhaps it was meant to show how fragile and open to influence Louis' mind is right then?-Like, if he is suggestible enough currently that even Daniel just openly questioning how things did or didn't happen can make Louis himself also doubt or start to question if he's remembered the way things happened correctly himself...that could be pretty significant, too. (In which case, maybe the way we saw different things happening on screen than we saw at first wasn't so much confirming that they happened but just confirming that some part of Louis himself also wondered if maybe he had known or let Lestat live on purpose too? Vampires in the books might ordinarily be meant to have more perfect recall than a human, but trauma can affect memories sometimes even when there is otherwise nothing wrong with the mind's ability to create or store memories-nevermind when things like the Mind Gift exists.) If that makes any sense. ? 😁

It actually kind of makes sense that Armand might use Marius as his last name. I mean, once upon a time, people did take on their father's names as their last names. (i.e. = Johnson, or 'de'/'von' insert-name-of-choice, etc.) And the show does almost lean too-much into all those Easter-Egg-y little "nods" or parallels or connections or whatever to other things sometimes, very clearly wanting to let those most avid of Ricean/VC fans know that they know all about certain impending character or story reveals and so on long before things actually get there(and/or just in case things never actually get to make it there maybe). ^-^ But I know that many people would probably prefer they focus more on authenticity to the lore and all than on that....and yet, personally, I dunno I think they're striking a relatively decent balance between the two and I'm kinda here for it. For some reason. 😁😊🤭🤷🤷‍♀️ I mean ..even though, in the books, they are estranged enough that Armand might purposefully avoid it-perhaps, in the tv series, he still hangs on to it a little bit more for either nostalgic or bitter reasons? idkk

(Either they blacked the last name out due to fan backlash/response/dissatisfaction or some other internal change of heart/mind about it within production or something, and it was easier to just black out then print all new posters completely from scratch, or ..perhaps they're going to introduce some kind of an element to their interpersonal contention there[ or had temporarily considered doing so for a time] through those posters somehow for some reason? 🤔🤔 👀)

I know Assad doesn’t look book accurate but I just really love him as Armand, everything about him exudes Armand’s personality to me. I still think the show is being deceptive about the timeline and about facts. I especially think Armand and Daniel’s relationship is going to be interesting considering there was supposed to be a Night Island mini show that would’ve released this fall but considering the strike who knows. I didn’t think about it until you mentioned it but at the start of the Trailer when Armand stairs at Louis from across the table in his white shirt and Louis in Black, that it felt again like an uneven power dynamic. I’ve been rereading TVL and QOD and when Lestat is first taken by Akasha to his family’s castle he states that her voice and pattern of speaking reminded him of Armand. I think considering how powerful Armand’s powers of manipulation are this entire thing is being orchestrated by him for some reason. I wouldn’t be surprised if IWTV had already been published along with TVL but Daniel has no memory of it because it was written anonymously and we know that his mind has been tampered with from season one. Lestat only had the one concert in San Francisco which Akasha interfered with so who would really remember him in 2023? It kinda fun trying to figure out this puzzle the writers have made out the VC stories.

Im just wondering how casual audiences will react to Louis' diminished role in future Chronicles seasons. He is only the star for book one, after which Lestat is the main character going forward. The show has demonstrated that they are not afraid to take liberties with the material, I wonder if such liberties will be taken to keep Jacob Anderson more active in future seasons? If not, we really won't see him much in season 3 and beyond.

Well, Claudia seemed only aggressively straight while she was still mentally a young adult. A lot of people don't realize their sexuality outside of heteronormativity until later in life. Of course, it's only natural for vampires to be bi-, but only because they have the lifespan to indulge in such evolution as heteronormativity has more than enough time to grow stale. Also, vampire wouldn't be subjected to the same social fears that humans experience that keep many of us in the closet

It’s a shame that despite expressing pride in all of Anne’s vampires being bi, that bisexuality is completely disregarded in this video. It’s quite heteronormative to say that Claudia’s sexuality in the show is “aggressively straight” simply because when she was a teenager she was focused only on boys. As if somehow those early years in her life sealed her sexuality in amber. Like other aspects of Claudia’s life, as she ages and matures, she understands herself better. Like anyone who’s bisexual/pansexual/queer, people’s understanding of their own sexuality can change over time. And then change again. Claudia has undergone radical changes in her lifetime so why would Paris be any different? And meeting a gorgeous redhead who treats her with awe and respect and like a woman, not a girl, would be enough to make her reconsider her past romantic choices.

48:20 - I didn't get the impression that Daniel literally doesn't care about Louis' feelings, I just get the impression that Daniel is a.) Questioning Louis' honesty and questioning what exactly Louis' real feelings about any of these things actually truly are or not in the first place[ because of all the discrepancies from the historical interview to this one] & b.) Maybe still hedging/protecting his own feelings a bit defensively yet himself[ because he seems extremely wary/skeptical of what exactly this interview is or isn't even all about to begin with and we don't know exactly what all has or hasn't started coming back to his mind/memory yet about the previous interview or not]. Buut perhaps that's just me and my own way of interpreting thing! 🤷🤷‍♀️😁😁 🙂 ((Like, I almost feel as if maybe Daniel keeps being so hard on Louis and challenging everything Louis says so much is specifically because he does actually care and he just feels like there is much that Louis may actually be repressing and/or in denial about and/or holding back, and Daniel just wants to try and get to the actual bottom of thing or hear the honest unfiltered truth no matter how sordid or messy or painful, or to figure out if doing that is even possible? Kind of like Louis also did, back in Louis' earlier days of first knowing / being-with[ or around] Lestat, too; because vampires can get literally in your mind at times and everything with vampires can always seems just so surreal and unmooring and reality-defying/upturning/ or whatever sometimes. But Louis is just being evasive and dodgy about everything and only wants to tell his story the way he wants to about the things that he chooses to or not, and nothing else, much like Lestat used to do...to Louis and Claudia..too. And that either may or may not be by Louis' own design or because of Armand's discreet but ever-present influence hovering around at every corner, which Daniel may or may not have been somewhat pinging to too every time he questioned "Rashid" about being there and all too. I'm really really hoping that the way Armand's history with Lestat plays all the more[ if not perhaps even entirely] into exactly _why_ Armand wants Louis so badly is preserved in the tv series too!. ^-^ (And just how brilliantly manipulative Armand can be. -then again, I am also cool with it if they treat Lestat's narration or interpretation of other vampires' motives every bit as unreliably as they treat Louis' narrations and interpretations or such sometimes as well😊)

The only thing that matters is do we get Lestat back? Great actor!

My guess is the relationship between Armand and Louis is not as happy and mutual as it seems. I’m guessing Armand has blinded Louis into believing he’s happy with him.
