An honest perspective from a private equity associate working at a megafund in NYC (kept anonymous for obvious reasons since they are currently working in the role). Hope this provides some candid insight into this person's experiences working in this job. Comment below any other professions you'd like to see me interview!

This person rlly shows how miserable most people are doing these crazy corporate jobs - esp finance related ones that work you like a dog. As humans, we aren’t designed to sit in front a screen under stress from early AM to late PM. She’s right that you sacrifice your youth all for money that you don’t even get to enjoy because your life is just spent in front of a screen…obv I’m sure there are a *few* benefits, but all I know is my friends who came out of college and worked IB or more rigorous finance jobs hated their lives :( and many of them regret wasting their young twenties. Sad but the reality. Thanks for showing us this interview!

Shut Up LMAO 😂 Graduating at 22, working ultra-hard until 28 and end up having 3 or more million dollars in savings? Plus tons of experience, self-development and contacts? I TOTALLY WANT THAT HORRIBLE "SACRIFICE" you talk about, winning 40K a month, and not even doing private equity or having a mega-high role that consumes your whole life. wtf dude 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I'd say as hard as private equity is, even "glamorous" jobs like music or acting have very stressful aspects. In other words, the grass is not always greener outside of PE, and nobody loves their job all the time. Change the mindset to consider how lucky you are to earn so much money and learn so much at such a relatively young age (with associated chance at early retirement) and you'll make it through tougher times in PE.

I am an agency recruiter for finance professionals, this interview is very useful! I’d like to add that although the vast majority of PE’s hire investment bankers with at least 2 years from a bulge bracket bank or tier1 boutique, there are some that actually prefer to hire MBB consultants, or if you are doing M&A/transactions at a big4, there is also chance, albeit smaller.

Angela, you do Corp Dev, right? Is the WLB that much better and is your base comp similar to IB? I’m in IB now and once I do my 2 years, I would want to move to something more chill. It would be nice to be able to log off after 7 on a weekday and not have weekend work. I don’t really care if the bonuses are low as long as the base is good. Thanks!
