You did an amazing job and you don't owe anyone an explanation...period! Let "All the Opinionators" plan-out a pool project for themselves, and they'll see what is involved.
OMG just saw the winter months fire pit option. You're a man after every woman's heart out there with exchangeable outdoor rooms and a different motif every season. I say keep on keeping on and no guilt for what you've built
Right! My husband would just slap it on a tarp and call it a day. This is beautiful… who cares about the cost of the actual pool, it’s the whole ambience.
That’s what I was thinking! A lot of men are too lazy these days and don’t even want to mow the damn grass! I wish more men could be like this! His wife is so lucky because she’s got her a man to build her a beautiful palace!
Your yard is beautiful. Can tell you truly enjoy yard projects and you are good at it. I don't blame you for going with an inexpensive pool that you can so easily put away like all other summertime gear. Great job and enjoy!
Just to let you know, the setup was excellent; don’t let others tell you about the setup being to original and cheap. Planning and estimating are key tools to create a permanent pool setup. Well Done.
Nice job man, we ordered a dough boy resin frame pool from our local pool retailer last spring during start of covid, finally got installed yesterday. Definitely like your setup and they way you did things. Looks good .
Make sure to add to the channel your new home/pool setup as with how well something this small was done Im sure the BIG pool will be over the top! How's things coming with the plans on the new home or has it taken a delay due to all the stupid crap going on with "the economy"?
You have an absolutely beautiful yard! I don’t care what anyone says about a “cheap” pool. That’s amazing! Even down to the smallest detail of the 4FT deep sign. Really, really nice work!
Not knowing much, I really liked your first video, and how you built everything. Heck with 'Haters', and mind your own business! You and wife like it, pool's big enough. Wish you could come to Lake Charles and help me, when we move in rental house. ? Consider that type of pool but also like the Oval ones . Really liked yours. Good luck with it
Just so you know if you look in middle of your sago palm that new leaves are growing, if you just cut off the dead sago leaves the new leaves will grow and will be back to healthy! Your actually supposed to trim the leaves every year on them!
You’d probably have to pay the same amount for a company to open and close a regular pool every year as you would to replace the inflatable pool, so it’s worth it.
Great video Mike. I’m new to your channel but was curious if you had any information you could give on your pool deck and also the concrete you had poured for under the pool? Thanks in advance.
Yard looks good man, don't let anyone tell you how to spend your money. I love it. Lots of inspiration for my yard, I'm in Canada and the removal and putting up a fireplace is a great idea.
Thanks. This video you watched is an older one I made from last year. Type in - “Mike’s Intex Pool & Deck Update” to see my latest video of this entire set up. You’re gonna love it!
WOW I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY INCREASED THAT PRICE TO $1500 OVER the summer of 2020! DAMN! That’s wrong! They should reimburse you on that price! That’s so ridiculous to charge $1500 on that pool! And…You are absolutely RIGHT!!!! Not everyone can have in-ground pools EVEN IF YOU HAVE A HUGE BACKYARD!
Please tell me what kind of ground cover this is.......it would be greatly appreciated. Send link. Thank you so much!! Your pool and landscaping is spot on 100% 😁
I wonder if you could pay like a group of Hand shovel diggers to dig out a massive hole and shape some sort of concrete inground pool. It's almost like if you want an inground pool that bad you would have to move!
Every state, every county has demands that we are required to abide by. Unfortunately, we may own our property but the government controls EVERYTHING we do with our property.
Just seeing this video but there all helpful Man I agree with you. We could be friends but you like Dewalt. 😂. Thank you for making these videos for us in Texas
No need to justify your decisions. Any homeowner that is thinking about or has already done the pool thing understands why you have done everything you did. Everyone feels the need to be a keyboard warrior. Odds are...they don't even have a pool, so shhhhh. Great job, it looks fantastic !! Thanks for all the information and help !!
Yeah in ground pool is going to run you 30,000 period, end of discussion. I have never seen anyone that will put a pool in for any cheaper. They may give you a few thousand dollar discount which then will shoot back up in taxes.
It's a fabric that you lay down on the dirt before you dump all the rock. It comes in a 4' roll and you can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's - it's called weed barrier. You just need to make sure that every square inch of dirt is covered before the rocks go down.
Beautiful set up!! Everything you do is perfection. Even your garage there behind you is PERFECT!! You inspire me to do better....but i clearly don't have an excess of funds that you do.
To be honest, I make a decent living as a contractor, but my wife is a career woman too. . . so a dual-income household with zero children equals plenty of disposable income.
Keep in mind when people are asking for links, it could be a way to support your channel and what your doing by using an affiliate link. You have an extremely clean and well done pool!
Thanks. I thought about the affiliate link thing, but I'm just a guy posting his own personal videos - I don't have sponsors, don't know any other RU-vidrs, and I get no support of any kind from anybody. I'm simply passing along some pool ideas and looking for a little viewer feedback.
Inground pools run 45.000 to 51.000 if you're Lucky people! Our neighbor just busted up his Inground pool cause,he's older and got tired of up keep🙈💰💰 I've had my aboveground oval pool 16 years now and have replaced beaded liner twice 1,200 each time me & my husband did cause, a pool company wanted 1.000 just to put in my own liner 🤯Lucky I've owned aboveground pools almost all my life and love to have fiberglass Inground pool but not into 51.000. We lost 3 buyer's from sale of my last house cause, they were scared of pool upkeep and didn't know anything about pools. So just FYI people try to STOP judging 🙄 I think you did a great job I saw video of your New pool💯❤⛱⛱🥰🥰
Thanks so much. I tried to tell everyone about the costs associated with in-ground pool construction but you know how people are - they instantly become pool construction experts and think they know everything. . . and most the time these are people that don't even own a pool.
Mike I don’t blame you … I have a large yard but it’s a lot of stuff that goes in to that!… they just hating you have a wonderful yard , it’s perfect.. stop explaining!
Since you have a lot of people asking you for links, an idea would be to create amazon affiliate links your viewers can use. You can make a commission off of them every time someone buys something using your link to the product. This could go toward helping you pay the pool off 😀 (assuming you haven’t already)
Listen guy, don't let people tell you that you did something wrong or stupid. You did it the way you wanted and I think it's freaking awesome... I love the winter look and the summer look. I think I would add a huge tank to hold a lot of water so my water bill wasn't so high every year but man, you do you and let the haters hate.
Thanks Joe. I'm just an average guy doin' my thing ya know. . . but I didn't think people would be so opinionated. I only started making these videos because when I was looking for ideas on RU-vid I couldn't find any that really helped me - so I made everything up as I went along and thought hey, maybe I should post a video or two that would help somebody else with ideas. Anyway, 90% of the comments are positive. Thanks
I personally like your set up because of u im gonna get a slb of concrete to install my aboulve ground pool dallas tx is the same way I can't just dig a hole
Unfortunately I would need to completely disassemble the whole thing to show the connections. Basically, it’s no different than the water jet for the pool - it’s just another form of jet. . . Plumbing is the same.
Hate those haters! You did an amazing job!! Everything you've done make sense to me. I have small above ground heated pool setup for my grand kids and they loving it. I lived in Michigan and the pool setup I had is getting smaller for grand kids. I think I am going to setup similar to your pool setup, cheap vinyl pool (easy & cheap to replace). I got Bestway rectangular pool had for 2 summers now but I think this the last year, all steel post are getting rusty (fold away for winter). Thank you for sharing this video.
This video is a guilt video I know you are having buyers remorse for not thinking through that 16 Grande you burned up for a blowup pool. Mike you got gouged for 1300 dollars. Listen its your project and it came out great dont let people make you feel bad.
Looks great!!!! Those talking smack are jealous lol. I def wont be spending 16k on my above the ground pool set up, but it wont look this nice lol. Why people can’t understand its not just about a vinyl pool I dont get… its aesthetics… what someone likes, who cares how much the actual pool costs, its about the whole backyard look and it looks fabulous 👏🏻
Great job! I bought a 12×30 intex pool & put it up 2 days ago. It looks like it's going down. I don't see any leaks. Is it because the rim needs air? It may sound like a silly question but I know nothing about these things.
I love your deck! Inground pools collect frogs and raise your property taxes. The pool is actually the secondary thing anyway - people just jump in and out to cool down while they are enjoying the deck.
Mike.'' You good men.' You did it because you have the money to do it. Thats all. Everyone can have a different argument about the same topic' but a the end what really matter its what make you happy with your proyect.
Hey Mike! Love the setup. I know lumber is astronomical at the moment, but what are the rough dimensions of that deck? I see about 11 deck boards, so is it roughly 6' deep? Are those 6' deck rail panels making it about 12' long? Thanks again!
I don't even have this pool nor was I thinking about getting this type, but I truly appreciate all the thought you put in and the way you explain things!! Great job!!
Your project was excellent! Your logic for buying a cheap pool and upgrading it to a very expensive one was simply marvelous! I think just like you. I didn't upgrade mine as much as yours, but I did put cement, a pretty background, lighting, and of course, an upgraded pool pump. You did a great job. Wish I could do exactly what you did.
Sand is a great sub-base and leveler for many things - which is why sand is used under paving stones. But sand moves . . . especially under 25 tons of pool water (weight of 18 x 48 foot pool), then add the momentum of sloshing water back and forth - bad idea. The only reason sand is recommended by some is because it’s soft and less likely to damage the pool bottom by abrasion - although you would still use a tarp between the sand and pool. However, every time you walk in the pool which is probably no more than 4 foot deep, you are leaving impressions with your feet. Eventually the sand will shift under pressure in one or more different directions. The end result. . .after a single season you may notice that your pool water is no longer level - because one or more sides of the pool has sunk down. Keeping an above ground pool absolutely level is the biggest issue for many, and this is because many homeowners take the easy, cheap, and fastest route when setting it up. Depending on how dense your backyard soil is, it’s almost better to forget the sand altogether and just set the pool directly on the ground using a tarp. Here’s another idea, many of my followers suggest using those black inter-locking gym mats that can be purchased on Amazon relatively cheap. Anyway, there are several creative materials available that are a much better idea than using sand. The bottom line is, not everybody has the budget for concrete - so remember that whatever you use, do it right. There’s nothing more frustrating than having to drain the pool and start all over because you took shortcuts! Do it once and be done.
Any slab of concrete no matter the thickness must have rebar to prevent cracking. I used #4 rebar spaced 12 inches apart going both directions. You have to remember this pool holds nearly 6,000 gallons of water, and water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon - so this pool weighs nearly 50,000 pounds!
absolute beautiful design and concepts. "moving in 2 years" end of story. to me that leaves it optional for the potential new owners to put a more permanent above ground pool. thanks for sharing.
You have made the back yard so versatile that this alone would make me want this home if it were on the market. This is a wonderful project and it looks amazing. I would love to have to option for a pool in the warmer months and extra seating and entertainment space in the cooler month. Fantastic Job!!!
I totally agree...the pool is VERY inexpensive to replace. A couple of bucks every few years is nothing. The real work is the foundation/deck! The next homeowners will appreciate your vision, hard work and attention to details. Just know that some future family will have many years thinking of you and what a nice job you did. But, remember to leave them your phone number just in case they need you for any questions.
I can see you're a very smart woman Cynthia. . .what you said is exactly was I was thinking when I built the entire thing - but some (just a few) think I was absolutely insane when I did this. Everybody is different - I just do my thing. Thanks for the response :)
I think it’s sad you needed to explain your reasoning, but it was also interesting to hear! People have so many opinions. To me you’re amazing and wanted it done right. You have a beautiful backyard!!! And I can only imagine you have kids you did this for? Or a very lucky wife. While mine is nothing like this and I’m still learning pool care and have a terrible set up, knowing what’s possible is so inspiring. We’re moving and the next pool/house/setup will be better. :) thank you for sharing all your tips and advice.
I'm coming out with a new video that you need to see FIRST before you buy that pool. It should be posted tomorrow at noon. Subscribe to my channel and you will get an automatic notification to watch it when it gets posted. Thanks
Lol you're still out of your mind for spending that much for the pool u got. They have other style pools. Above ground pools. For 16k pay your neighbors a couple k to get thru their yard. But hey its your money. It does look nice. But 16k?!?!
I think it’s beautiful, I myself started out with a 8’ pool for my infant grandson and myself to be in , increased to a 15’ one as he got older, totally enjoyed it had it 4 years, easy for me to clean , this year 18’ , I would love to have a set up like you have, it’s beautiful
You don't need to prove anything to these haters you did a really good job did what made and worked for you best. Great JOB 👍👌👍looks really nice I might go with disame set up as you .
Thanks Sergey. I'm no pool expert - in fact I've never owned a pool before this, so I just made it up as I went along. And of course, at the time I had a fist full of money and time off from work. . .and this was the result. But I was really shocked at some of the bizarre and even outright hateful comments! I guess this is the world we live in.
I can’t believe you feel the need to justify yourself. If people make negative comments, let them. You know the truth of how much you spent. If they don’t believe you, tough. You did a lovely job for your family that’s all that matters.
Your pool is my dream. You spent the money in the setup, and I agree 100% with what you have. edit: Also in ground pools also increase cost of your house insurance. but above ground didn't cost more. I live in Minnesota and don't want a pool up all year round because of the snow.
Marti, I can tell you're a smart woman - you are the only one in thousands of comments that even mentioned the increase in home owners insurance for an in-ground pool! I live in Austin but I work for a company based in Minneapolis, MN. A Minnesota colleague of mine said the same thing about not wanting a pool up year round due to freezing temps. So what I have here in Texas is a hard sell for some, not just from a dollar standpoint but it needs to make sense depending on where you live in the nation. I have the opposite issue here . . . I cannot have any kind of green plants around my house - or even flowers, because the extreme summer sun will fry everything within a day. And to make matters worse, all of the succulents I had and desert palms died during that extreme freeze Texas had a while back. Uhhh, I just can't win :(
This is cool! Our family got a Coleman 18x48, and was telling my dad that we should have a deck and everything, but for some reason he doesn't want to go fancy. I am just like you Mike- Fancy I like things fancy. My uncle has a frame pool too that he DUG semi inground though were not doing that, you have been a HUGE influence, and have saying, what we need, and since ours is actually a frame, I have been telling my dad begging him to get a Thru-wall skimmer because I hear they work really well! Nice job Mike! I love your pool and lights and setup and everything your the man dude!
Thanks a bunch! I started making these videos to help others and give ideas - because when I first decided that I wanted to do something like this, I couldn't find any RU-vid videos that helped. So I had to make it all up myself. . . don't give up on your dad - maybe show him my video. Good Luck!
