A ten mile trip along the Basingstoke Canal to find King the ruins of King Johns Castle.

On a hot day at the end of June I set out with Wild Camper on an outdoor adventure to find the ruins of an old Castle. what started as a sedate paddle in my Intex K2 Challenger turned into an endurance mission. but it was a whole lot of fun.

Nice video... Brings back so many memories I used to play in the empty and dried up bed of the Basingstoke canal. I then graduated to helping the trust during school holidays with digging it out. I have walked the total length for sponsorship from Grey well to River Wey

Looks like fun was had by all. Interesting to see the large boats on the river. We don’t have that in my area. The old structure was cool too. Again sadly nothing like that here.

I figured that sort of thing would appeal to you guys across the pond. The long boats are cool, anyone can hire them for a day or a few days, I’ve always wanted to but have never got round to it. One day! Happy 4th of July weekend buddy 👍

Some people live on them, they are also hired out for weekend type vacations, or day trips.. self operated or as part of a tour.

Excellent vid Dan glad you made it to the castle, we used to play there when I was a kid. It has certainly been smartened up since as it very overgrown back then. We also used to play in the canal where the low bridge was and it used to get packed on hot sunny days.

I’m glad we made the castle too, we almost turned back at one point.. I felt it for a few days after though! It’s a lovely area around there.. looks like they’ve spent a bit of lottery money fixing it all up. Thanks for watching mate.

Nice bit of the canal, I've only really seen the Fleet/Aldershot/Deepcut section. I reckon the inflatable would be a good way to get along the water at Waverley abbey😎👍

Really enjoyable video. I ended up purchasing the Itiwit 2 from Decathlon in the end as it looks well made for the money and I couldn't be bothered waiting for Amazon to drop the current £200 plus price tag on the Challenger K2. I really like the look of those Seveylor Kayaks though- especially Colorado and Hudson models. One thing, I find strange though, is that these companies are calling these craft 'kayaks' when they are by definition a canoe.

Yeah it was a special close up 😂 I was in pain for a couple of days after.. that was the furthest I’ve paddled. But a great day for sure 👍

Great to see you both getting on the water but my oh my those inflatable kayaks look such an effort..... good effort! The more you do the easier it will become in the muscle sense but one tip is push the top arm instead of pulling the bottom one and if you have one push again the footrest with the legs (not sure what you have in inflatables),as this uses bigger and stronger muscles. Good show chaps.
