The narrator isn't saying the people don't deserve social security benefits. He's saying that if more people are claiming it versus the amount of people paying into it, it can have drastic social and economic reprocussions. You never want a scenario where more people are dying than being born. That's essentially how we become an endangered species.

You could potentially lesson the damage from the impact, but you have now just blanketed the area with radiation and the area would still be struck with the fragments that break apart from the original object. Plus, actually managing to even hit said meteor in the first place is going to be almost impossible because of how fast it moves.

My favorite tsunami eventuality is the La Palma island splitting apart. A wave 80ft tall will slam into the east coast of the US in just 8 hours. If it happens at 10pm EST. The wave will take out cities from Boston to Miami by 6am with almost no warning because everyone will be asleep. It can happen any time in the next 10000 years. Sleep well folks
The theory of La Palma collapsing being a huge danger to the east coasts of northern and southern America has been scientifically debunked decades ago. Only a sudden lift of the seafloor can cause such a tsunami that it would threathen to demolish the east coast of the Americas. I've been on La Palma, walked through the cracks on the west side of the island and tourguides and the people at the info centre back then (mid & late 90s) already said (laughingly) that that theory was false.
