The actual events are just as heartbreaking, because Martyn convinced Cleo that they have to turn on Scott eventually. So when they realised that Pearl killed Impulse and Bdubs, Martyn attacked Scott while Cleo did nothing to even warn him. Scott ended up having to flee from the person he trusted above all others, because in the end, she put her own soulmate above him.
@@darkdragoness5 how i saw it is cleo actually doesn't turn on scott or put her soulbound above him, she couldn't betray either but she made it clear to martyn she just couldn't go for scott and in the end, she didn't hurt her chosen soulmate ❤❤💔💔
Never thought I’d add “fucking Martyn up” to my artistic achievements XD Thank you for your kind words Martyn! It made my week! Also so you know: very much not a full time artist, but a big life series enjoyer in any free time I can find! Looking forward to the next series :)
dhaejsfhkjghag i love this so much!!! thank you for this creation!! it's so inspiring too, i wish there was a book about this that includes the pictures
Even though I hate drawing- this animation motivates me to do it anyway. I was crying the frist time I saw it and still have the temptation to do so. Its so goddamn good
I love how every fan animation makes Grian look like just *some guy.* Like you might pass him walking down the street and he'd look just like that. But then when you actually watch his gameplay, he IS the one who knocks. Man is a menace in British clothing.
Fire hair Tango is just fanon. The more people love someone's skin the more supernatural characteristics they tend to give it. Tango is also often drawn with pointy ears and a tail, but not horns anymore because it bothers him.
@@My_life_actually_ Not specifically, but he did mention something along the lines of "just because my character has red eyes doesn't mean I'm a demon"
However much I love the concept of Cleo held in Scott's arms as Pearl watches helplessly, all I can think of is Martyn like 5 feet away in the family guy death pose ☠
One of my favorite parts is tango's rage moment. "I'm havin flashbacks, Etho" "Rage moment?" "I'm havin FLASHBACKS!" "Tango is-" *Tango rage noises* "He's having a moment"
To be fair, even though there was no script for any of the life series episodes, the stories that just... materialised out of the chaos really had me enraptured. And then the fans went and dramatized the drama even more though stuff like this, it's amazing.
I believe that the pairs were scripted. Because about half of them make sense Grian - Scar (They were together for all of Third Life because of Grian exploding Scar with a creeper in episode 1) Scott - Pearl (They were together for all of Last Life because Pearl promised Scott a life if he stayed with her throughout episode 1 (If I recall correctly)) Impulse - Bdubs (They were together for almost all of Third Life. But Bdubs betrayed impulse in the final episode because scar gave him a clock. I believe those are all of the scripted ones (Please tell me if I am wrong)
@@natorvr8629 yes, there was no sign that the pairs were known in advance. That's what I find most impressive, the fact that they came up with all this plot while just going with their guts and having fun. It's so good, that it can be dramatized and this video finally made it justice. The only change from the series was the ending, which to me Everen fixed. The original ending of Scott killing himself to give Pearl the victory (as if she wasn't going to die too anyway), was very lame... she deserved an epic and fitting ending. This was an epic ending!
@@adalon378 I disagree, scott handing off the victory to pearl was symbolic of him forgiving her for all her shenanigans and not finding him earlier on in the first episode. Well, that's the dramatised idea behind it anyway, I thought it was neat.
6:37 Didn't see this myself, but from another comment in the original animation. The reflection in Etho's eyes briefly show the scene referencing Last Life when Etho boogey-killed Scar. A nice callback to another time, and another life...
Where the strings are represents how the ppl feel about the relationship. Heart= true soul mates. A good match Finger= I truly like this other person but I'm not sure about this relationship we have Neck= I feel trapped and suffocated in this bond truly and wholy. Its a wonderful interpretation of the relationships between each bound pair in the game. Like..... its clear w/o needing to be said and I love that about the scene.
Yup! Fully agree with all explanations here, couldn’t have done it better myself. And to add, Clothing: I do not have a connection with this person whatsoever (note: it only showed up with the Divorce Quartet)
About the string, “the red string of fate” or strings relating to fate or relationships/soulmates in general is a symbolic motif that’s shows up in all sorts of media. You can probably even tie (and excuse the pun) it back to the gates of Greek mythos, etc.. I’ve seen it used a lot in fandom spaces!
The specific red string tied around the finger can be tracked back down to (I believe) Chinese mythology but in that the strings are tied around your pinky toes
@@dawnshade4939 oooh! Your right! I think I’d meant to point out that stings and fate seem to show up in several cultures. Gates was supposed to be fates. But yeah, I’d forgotten it was Chinese! Thanks!
Yup, the same in Asatro (Norse mythology) the three "norner" (wise old women) live at the roots of Yggdrasil, the tree of life, where they spindle and weave the threads of human lives, intertwining some, deciding how long each persons thread (life) is going to be, and weave the great tapestry of life. They remember all that have been, and know all that is coming.
@@KnittedSister It’s truly fascinating to see these reoccurring motifs in cultures all over the world, the threads themselves are almost a Jungian Archetype, the three old woman certainly are!
6:55 Fyi to all people who like this shot, the creator (Everen, they have a comment higher up if you want to go there directly) did a last life everybody wants to rule the world one with an even better version for Martins last stand on Magical mountain.
I love how differently martyn and pearl handled the break ups, martyn left pearl and tried to make it up with cleo, while pearl was left completly and just turned and made scotts and everyone around her lifes hell. I love it so much
The amount of angst that animators can stuff into the life series is beautiful. Its such a silly and funny series when you watch the creators videos, but then when you watch the way animators interpret it? Gods its beautiful
Adding something as real as the permanence of death and the definitive end to a game like Minecraft where its a countdown through your lives is a great source of angst
Something I realized about the animation. The locations of where the characters are bonded is based on how people treated the mechanic. 3 Types are going to be designated by Noose, Ring, and Heart. The Ring is the person barely cared or used the bond. The Heart is they actually cared and where the person's allegiance was. The Noose is the person treated as if their soul mate was always putting them in danger.
I believe about the Tango flame hair thing, it's to represent how temperamental he is, and so when he is angry in animatics, his hair flames up to symbolize the fiery emotions.
Hi Martyn, I don't know if you've reacted to the "Everybody wants to rule the world" animatic for Last Life, but if you haven't, please do. It's amazing
All references, The string color is your life, purple means voluntary At the start if the string is on the heart it means it is leading you to your soul mate Grian and scar flash backs Tango explodes and helps Jimmy up Etho dealing with Joels madness and soon learning to love it Big b changed his skin to have ears Tango scared the horns will make them a target and be out first again Pearl being covered in powdered snow "Lets see how deep the bullet goes" bothering him Scott being an elf (Empires 1) Tangos lore is that he is a demon, solid red eyes, fire hair, fangs, pointy ears You apologizing on the bridge Dont die sword Grian offering Big b to tie a purple string to his finger Ranchers revenge Bad math Summoning Pearl Ren and big b death Flash back A relation ships String around the neck means unfriendly Dieing for each other Etho being killed in the same way he killed scar (Last life) Grian snapping the string of secret soulmates Two people just die at random Ex-4 and pearl disappearing Only hearing pearl but not seeing her So this is where we are now Pearls wolves Scott no! Survivors guilt. I am super into the life series and have watched every single perspective.
Correction! Tango's design is 100% fanon interpretation, and the demon part actually bothers him (that's why there's no horns as that's the bothered him the most) Additional references: -Purple string of Etho going to Bdubs but it's torn -> referencing last life -in the fishing part, when we can see Etho, his eyes reflects the situation, in like a second the images changes into Scar (in place od Joel) and Etho (in place of Grian) referencing one of Etho's boogyman kills in last life
Enderman kills Jimmy Sonically charged shriek kills Grian And of course their partners also die, and that was their last life so they're out for good there. That's the two random people. After that: Scott burns the RelationShip Joel takes revenge and burns everyone's bases Then it's Martyn, Cleo, Scott and Pearl as the last yellow lives. Pearl and Scott go to red and Pearl leaves him for the other reds while Scott stays with Cleo and Martyn. Joel and Etho go to the nether and burn to death The other two are hunted down and slain by Pearl. Martyn turns on Scott and tries to blow him up with a firework but Scott manages to get away Pearl kills Cleo, which kills Martyn as well And finally Scott ends his own life, bringing Pearl down with him. In the end there were no winners. Just bitterness and hate for the two that actually did win by title.
Idk if you've already seen it, but there's an animatic with a voiceover of a fan written poem in the style of "And Then There Were None" for 3rd Life, really pulls on the heartstrings that one
6:37 YOWWWW I JUST REALIZED, In etho's eyes, as he sees joel getting fished killed by grian, it went to the flashback of etho fish killing scar in last life, THIS IS SO GOOODDD!!!! theres always something else to discover every time i rewatch
Yep... I've seen this animatic so many times and each time I find it better and better. I'm pretty sure I was crying the first time. It's beyond me how people create masterpieces like this.
Tied to the finger is like one-sided, tied to the heart is that they truly love each other, tied to the neck is they dont want to be with their soul mate's
I also love the Red String of Fate that tends to show up in the Double Life animatics. I learned about from the movie Your Name and the concept is really interesting to me!
Ever since I First Saw this video I have loved their interpretation of the end With Scott holding Cleo and kind of taking himself out in order to kind of avenge her death. This video did a really good job making pearl very Scary
My god why did this just get me so emotional and almost crying at a Minecraft series! By far one of the best life series in my opinion, would love to see V2 if Double Life!
I really like this animation. I think it just really aligns with my interpretation of double life. It just feels like all the important events are featured and the right emotions are portrayed
I don't know if someone else has already said this but in the first shot with the horn and the allays it is grian not martyn. The silhouette is of a person with a folded collar and the cuffs of the persons sleeves are also folded. Grian is drawn with a folded collar and folded sleeves while Martyn isn't.
I hope Martin is ok emotionally by how the animatic made him feel, tho so glad this fell on my feed cause it is an amazing artist and video along with the fact the first third life was such an amazing series along with the others. Can’t wait to see more third life in the future. :)
5:30 The thing that's so cool about the animatic is that the soulmate bonds are tied to some part of their body, bc it's a bond they can't control, but the chosen bonds are tied to the heart and i love that detail so much. the only soulbonds that are tied to the heart are between players that did also chose to stay with their soulmates. the symbolic value of it all just killlls me.
Martin in therapy: My friends brings me joy and sillyness. Then it goes on RU-vid, People make fanart and animations of it, Then same sillyness gives me trauma.
Tangos fire thing is because many make him like a Blazeborn or Blaze hybrid. like how Rens a dog, Grian, Jimmy and Flase are often Avians. Docs a creeper hybrid. Impulse is often a demon or dragon.
the string is because there's a Japanese legend that everyone is tied to their soulmate by a red string attached at the pinkie. its honestly cute. its called the red string of fate
That was.. woah.... that was so much pain depicted in beauty Everen is actually my favourite artist in the minecraft animatic genre. Every video is just too good!
This is just a PURE master piece I can not get over the fact that this is so well done and it REALLY just pools you in the story of how emotional this all was. I just finished watching double life for the third time ( btw thx for all of the wonderful episodes) and seeing it all now like this is just so good, it makes .e wish I was in this marvelous adventure
So in fandom there are things like hybrids. Scott is an Elf Tango is a BlazeBorn Jimmy, Pearl and Grian are Avians (something about them being siblings?) Anyway, Grian is a parrot and Jimmy is a Canary Ren is a Wolf and so on...
What I loved about this and the whole series is that while Martyn and Pearl both started by being seperated with their soulmate, Martyn eventually reconsiled, and worked with Cleo, motivating her to keep going and living, even at the very end. How I enterpreted that in lore, Martyn was never out to do evil even when he took a dark role on the server by having broken ties, when it all came down to it he was by the side of his soulmate for better or for worse. He didnt just want to save his own life by Killing Pearl, his first ally and friend on the server, but he wanted to save his soulmate too. thats why they went for Pearl despite Scott possibly being a better option, but Martyn, knew how much it would hurt Cleo and he wanted to make her happy even if it killed them. Martyn and Cleo's bond is by far my favorite in the series, as it feels like a real adventure movie could be made about it, but Ill admit Pearl and Scott are my second favorite for the tense setting.
The life series are truly indicators of what the greatest minds can do together while having fun and chaos. I will always be a sucker for these series, and even if it stops, I will re watch it again and again, coz I have already watched 3rd and Last Life 4 times. Also, Tango is drawn with red eyes and fire hair due to his fanon being that he is a nether hybrid. 3 am Pearl winning the series was absolutely epic, with her having attachment issues early on in the series. Kudos to Grian and team for their major success with the Life Series. I think in the future we might need another 3rd Life and Last Life.
