Over the garden SCARED the shit out of me as a kid but I literally love it now. Also in my public library they were giving away free comic strips and over the garden from comicfest was one of them. Something interesting about that comic is Beatrice in bird form is with them when they get out of the water at the cemetery.
Interesting, I didn’t even know over the garden wall had a comic, but same I remember specifically “The Ringing of the bell” being terrifying when I first saw the show.
I believe they were GOING to make a full series at some point, but due to some circumstance or another the entire idea was REWORKED to be exactly as short and complete as it turned out with that being the ENTIRE plan.
The Highway Man is honest about how he lives and why, is never shown actively antagonizing anyone during a time when he has basic shelter and food. Also the townspeople are never seen CONVINCING him to tell his story, but not only does he, he actively chooses to throw a little entertainment into it. Fred, though choosing to go off on his own new adventure, is never stated to suffer abuse from or be at odds with the Highway Man in any way. In fact, while the Highway Man steals to live, Fred actively seems to ENJOY doing so before going honest, actually making HIM more of an actual villain than the Highway Man ever was. The Highway Man kills, but he does not do so for pleasure. Fred may not be as EXTREME as he is, but he actively ENJOYS the evil that he does still commit.
Tome of the Unknown as it IS known is actually a reconstitution/semi reconstruction of a PREVIOUSLY pitched short that was rejected and ultimately destroyed/lost a good number of years before. It is more of a CONCEPT OF a pilot than a true pilot, which the show no longer has.
It should be noted that Over the Garden Wall is just a re imagining of Dantes Purgatorio. With the added twist of the beast being the lure of death through giving up (succumbing to the water) and hope being what resurrects them.
you dont talk about 4 episodes, the one about the man and his mansio, the one about the school, the kids and his teacher that are trying to save the school from being close, the one about the frog boat and finaly the dream one, you also didnt talk about the web comic that talk abot 3 sailor sailing in a field of corn, and the show it self takeing inspiration in dante divine comedy, something that you can see in the star, like beatrice having the same name and mission of one of dante character that is to guide the protagonist trow the 7 rings of hell, the beast being a metaphor for lucifer that in both works is a powerless being in his own kindown, and how to the protagonists have to go trow hell and the purgatory to go heaven, and how the epsodes are references to one of the seven circles of hell. and also the creator alredy talked the was dante divine comedy that inspired him. edit: sorry for the mispellings, im from brasil and dont wright in english very much
Thanks for the watch, and as for the stuff I missed I didn’t really go over specific episodes, rather places and characters, I purposely skipped endicot (mansion guy) the school, and gregs dream episodes cause I thought they were very filler that didn’t add much to the story, I was unaware the webcomic existed, and as for the dante’s inferno thing someone already made a great video covering that and I didn’t want to copy his. I did however mention the show’s connection to purgatory and how the beast is satan (the devil). If you are looking for a deep dive you might want to look for an “over the garden wall iceberg” video which I believe you could probably find on RU-vid, but regardless I appreciate your comment!
I love this movie/ series I watched it like 5 times I remember once when I was 14 and another 1 year ago. how the gentle wind.❤ I have a twin that has drives deep into the story like me Long Live The Classics😊. Sad though that they don’t make movies like this anymore
I don't need a video to prove to me that Over the Garden Wall is a perfect show. Everything, from the music to the writing, is crafted meticulously and carefully with such thoughtfulness. It was the music that first attracted me to the show. I was genuinely shocked a cartoon network kid's show could produce such beautiful pieces of art. It's certainly my favourite show.
The first time i saw over the garden was when I was playing on cartoon network website ( if i remember correctly) i only saw episode 2 and 3 I think and I was mostly confused because I didn't knew English at that time. Now I'm happy I found the actual name of the mini-show and I'm going to watch it again :)
I feel like over the garden wall is meant to be completely up to interpretation. I don't think even the creators know what it means, which I feel adds to the perfection of the show.
I watched the series as a child and I had no reaction to sh## all I remember was the mash potatos and the brown stuff had a similar reaction to adventure time I just thought that stuff was entertaining fin and Jake beat up ice king that was about the depth of what I understood
