Great video. Things missing: 1. Block the entry holes. 2. Use the water and pits to kill bugs 3. sometimes, surviving is enough 4. mobility is king. If you can't get to the spot you need to be at, it's bad 5. upgrades that allow one to displace bugs are wonderful. Upgrades that do damage AND displace bugs... moreso.
Also getting all objectives in the missions gives extra rewards at the end of the island. So getting the objectives is worth it. It's basically either 2 reputation or 2 power for free. Unless you decide to keep the free loot item you get.
@@fermitupoupon1754 Exactly. Going for the objectives is always a good calle, unless you get more than 1 or 2 grid damage. You can use the reputation point when you finish the island, and you will also have a bonus if you got all objectives.
1. Control the center, even artillery mechs should be kept near the center if possible (but don't be afraid to leave the center to do important things) 2. Mech damage only matters if the mech dies. Unless the mech dies, or the mission has a bonus objective that punishes mech damage, there's no downside to taking damage. Use your mechs to take shots for more important targets.
I try to play this game strategically like letting go of a power tower to get a dangerous Vec and all of that but for some reason this game is great at getting into my guilt receptors. Whenever I see a building go down and the number of casualties pops up over it I feel so guilty. This game really nails down the despair of not being able to save everyone.
you can't even take all missions on each island, the vek destroy the rest of it making you see each section of the island as a resource depending on what it takes to save it and what it gives back, that's why the people in each building are excited to see your mechs, they're saved or at least have a chance to be while later on the run over that island, someone else isn't so lucky...
Mostly solid, though to be fair about many "Destroy X number of mountains" objectives, you tend to get an additional unit explicitly specialized in doing so, that also happens to be extremely powerful against the Vek (kinda makes you wonder why they don't strap those monsters to a mech!) The one on Detritus gives you a units that can bombard any location on the map in an X formation, allowing you to instantly demolish 5 mountains.. or 5 Vek, or a combination of the two, depending on proximity. Plus, mountains are damaged by things being knocked into them anyway, so it's not that difficult to achieve!
I'd like to add to this that completing *all* objectives on an island successfully will earn you a bonus reward, either a new pilot, a new weapon or several power grid points. It might be worth comitting to a single objective for the bonus reward after all.
@@WexMajor82 Yeah true and maybe they don't have the infrastructure either. So they are trying different things. ice one Robots (which probably was going well before the infection), wood one old and powerfull tech they just recently realised they can use and dessert one terraforming and also the bombs. Which after all saved the whole world.
5:40 "have to destroy all 4 mountains ..... to hell with that" You always have a disposal unit during that objective, which can destroy multiple mountains in only one hit. Also, getting objectives done is more important than you think. At the end of the island you get a bonus when you completed all objectives.
One thing I missed in the beginning is that next to your attack there is a wrench and you can use it to heal your mech 1HP. So blocking spawns is a great tactic and just heal up if needed.
Bubz of Steel not at all. Most cursor movement type stuff snaps to grid, and it feels very nice and responsive. I haven’t played any other versions, and only played switch fairly briefly, so I don’t know if there are some bits I don’t fully understand that might be more obscure or difficult, but it seems like a really nice easy to use interface.
@Bubz of Steel the one I'm playing on belongs to a friend who's living with me for a bit. Seems like a good system, games on the expensive side (for someone spoiled by steam and gog sales)... But then it's probably not such a bad thing to just have a few games that you really play rather than a massive backlog of stuff you never get round to... BOTW is awesome.
This I find easiest to do on the first island (of a run) but do try to get all the objectives, if you do, you get a bunch of free bonuses that help a lot for getting a good run
I would amend "The Power Bar Is Your God" to "Check what's at stake." There are times when, due to mistakes or bad luck, the optimal strategy still results in building damage--and that's okay. The important thing, in my experience, is to stay aware of what exactly is happening on cluttered battlefields and actively decide what attacks and what bugs are the most dangerous.
The hardest objective imo is the Volatile Vek, because you can't control it, nor can you kill it, but you have to stop it from destroying all your buildings, which basically ends up meaning your artillery is indisposed for the entire mission.
I think you're basically meant to use none damaging pushes on it to keep it out of the way of your shit. I have this mission with two star rewards, or two power bar rewards from another. I have full bar though so might risk the volatile mission. thing is it's been like 5 month since I last played, so will probs mess it up.
I tend to try and go for max power early on and then get the bonus grid defense that stacks up, the idea being that if I can make buildings more likely to resist damage then I will ultimately end up with more reputation to spend on upgrades because I wont have to spend it to recover grid power.
Me in 2021: oh let me start playing this top game from 2018 finally. Also me, but 2 hours later: where can I find some help, this is HARD! Thanks for your tips.
Love this guide, I'm having a perfect game for my first run due to this. my only issue now is my only two choices is stars from a "keep volatile alive" mission or another mission that only has power as a reward, and I have full bars. Should I just do the volatile one, or is it not worth the risk? these are also my last two bits on this continent. Would love some advice on how to move forward. I'd really like to come out of this first island smelling of flowers if possible, if it worth the risk for another 2 stars? (I'm sorry, I forgot to check how many I have already, it's my first island though, first run and everything has went perfect so far)
Thanks man. I just picked this up on Switch as it looks like advance wars or something. I didn't realise it was a puzzle game, that's amazing. I love puzzle games that aren't puzzle games (like Hitman and that kind of thing) Do you rate Wargroove at all? I was sold on it, but then I heard that it's incredibly shallow and has terrible AI, so it put me off buying it.
Ending videos by implying that the primitive appliance of a water well is unpleasant to be either pushed or submerged into? Them’s fighting words boiled down to the most concentrated form.
