In the spring of 1968, Jerry Pompili began ushering at the Fillmore East in New York City earning five dollars per show. In September of that year, Jerry became the house manager and remained in that position through the end of 1969. In 1970 Jerry began his long-time role with Bill Graham beginning at the Fillmore West where he started announcing shows and overseeing the Berkeley Community Theater. In January 1971 Pompili left for Europe to begin working with the Rolling Stones. He helped produce their 1971 UK tour and went with them to the south of France while they were recording Exile on Main Street. Jerry returned to the US in September of that year returning to his job at Bill Graham Presents. After the Fillmore West closed on July 4, 1971, Pompili moved over to Winterland to manage that room, for the rest of the decade. Winterland’s final show was on December 31, 1978. After the closing of Winterland Jerry moved into the artist management division where he discovered and signed Eddie Money. After leaving that role, he spearheaded the organization of the BGP archives and stayed at the company for 7 years after the tragic death of Bill Graham finally retiring in 1998. Jerry Pompilli will always be remembered as the voice of both the Fillmore East and West.
