Voici une pièce instrumentale du « Manuscrit du Roi », un chansonnier français contenant plus de 600 œuvres composées au début du 13ème siècle. Comme toute danse très ancienne, elle ne dévoile aucune indication chorégraphique. Cependant, sa conservation écrite, atypique pour ce genre habituellement transmis par tradition orale, témoigne de l’importance toute particulière qu’elle pouvait avoir à la cour des rois et des seigneurs de l'époque. Nous avons choisi de l’interpréter dans une formation qui souligne son caractère grave, mystérieux, parfois même menaçant : une chalemie, une busine (trompette droite), et une percussion - une formation qu’on voit souvent sur les iconographies de l’époque !
Let’s discover an instrumental piece from a french chansonnier called « Le Manuscrit du Roi ». More than 600 music pieces composed at the beginning of the 13th century are clustered in this manuscript, including the Tierce Estampie Real that we are playing here. As every early dances, no choreographic indications are noted on the manuscript. However, finding orally-transmitted music written down remains very atypical at that time, and attests of its very likely importance at the courts of kings and lords. We have chosen to play it in on instruments highlighting its mysterious, sober and sometimes threatening temper. This instrumental combination is to be found in many iconographies of that time : a shawm, a straight trumpet (busine), and a percussion.
