When I started learning to bikejor with my husky mix, Leo, there were not many resources available to me online. Since we've been doing it for over a year now, I thought I'd share my training process and how we learned to sport of bikejoring together.
In this video, I cover the following:
- How I taught Leo cues
- Some basic training to start introducing a bike
- Safety while running your dog
Disclaimer: I am not a dog trainer. I consulted my R+ dog trainer during this process, and some things that worked for my dog may need to be altered for your dog's individual needs.

A very good introduction to the sport . Dogs love it, getting them into competition opens that enjoyment up to a whole different level . Just watch some racing videos of the start shunts to see how amped dogs get

Absolutely! Leo lives for the bike. It's great to have an activity we can do together. Thanks for watching, and maybe as we get better at the sport we can share more tips. We are very much still beginners though!

Hello I like the content and I am considering getting my husky into this. He is a natural puller at the moment but, do you think it maybe possible to teach him not to pull during walks but pull on an activity like this? Harness association maybe? Curious to your thoughts.

Thanks for watching! It is absolutely possible. I taught Leo loose leash walking before teaching him this and yes, I use different harnesses and he associates them differently. We also do canicross and he is also able to go hiking without pulling on the leash other times so it is possible if you put in the work with training!

Please don’t do this on pavement / road. It is really bad for their hips and joints, only do this on soft terrain/off-road. This will minimalise injuries. For the rest, nice video and keep up the good work!

It can be worse for their joints for sure! If owners choose to run on pavement, it can be done safely for short distances 🥰 we primarily run on single track dirt trails or gravel roads but will run on pavement from time to time. In either case, proper safety precautions should be taken. Thanks for watching!

This is the common belief , but there is an opposing view emerging . That it is only a myth . Here in Australia the dirt tracks are hard , joint problem is not a big issue . More damage is reported from dogs free running and playing with each other at home . I will avoid paved surfaces because they are used by other vehicles and I avoid the conflict . Ask youself where you first heard your view stated and have you ever seen an example to prove it . Often the veiw is often retold because it make sense intuitively .

@@stevemartin5581 Great tips! I also generally avoid pavement because of traffic. The area where we filmed is a bike path that isn't widely used so it is perfect for short runs. Thanks for your insights and for watching!
