Thank you for posting this, Dr. Diniz. I am finally able to put all the details I have learnt over the years together. I am a veterinary technician of many years and feel I need to know this. I am often tasked with monitoring anesthesia and ECG is one of my two favorite devices to aid in a safe anesthetic experience for my patients. Your lecture finally pulled it all together.
T waves are generally positive on ECG because the repolarization vector moves away from the point of reference (from apex toward base). If the heart repolarized in the same direction it depolarized (from base to apex), it would indeed be a negative wave. The reason the vector gets switched is because the electrical signal is shot down to the apex where it begins triggering cardiomyocytes in the direction of the base (this helps push blood up through the aorta/pulmonary valves.
