For many photographers, moving from natural light to the studio can be nerve-wracking, but it doesn't have to be.
Join Daniel Norton OnSet as he walks you through the basics of constant and strobe (flash) lighting and explains how it will help take your work to the next level.
We will discuss shaping light and how to take control of your environment.

Thanks, Daniel and Alison! I always enjoy even your most basic videos, because I know there's going to be some improvising along the way, dealing with details, and that makes it more interesting. Also, thanks to Seth, mix master and mind-reading mega-assistant. Looking forward to the Advanced class!

For squinty eyes, I like the tool in liquify (Adobe Photoshop CC) that lets you open their eyes. I use it a lot and it makes a big difference.

imo a very good because informative and entertaining series 👍🏆 ... I like two things: keep things simple but effective, and don't always take everything so seriously, fun is important in life 😊✨🥂

most exellent - great to see how you work the shot building it up piecing things together to arrive at the look you want - helps me a lot to see you at work and again the small space is realistic to what i have to work with - not a spacious location but a real life one

This was a great show and tell! Once one has mastered available light one must learn how to duplicate the feel or look with strobes as sometimes nature may not cooperate. By the way I think this will be a great place to share something, I own a Canon Power Shot SX730 HS point & shoot camera. Noticed that whenever I use the Pop UP flash the image has a warm tone over all, I played with it(in Manual mode)to see if I could get rid off it. After few trial and errors I was able to do it by using the CUSTOM WHITE BALANCE. I visited a friend who has strobes and did few shots in Daylight white balance and others in Custom, it was funny to see the warm cast vanish. Thanks for sharing so much great experience and knowledge Daniel Norton!

In any ordinary show you might hear that members of the audience heckled the performer. In a Daniel Norton show, the talent heckles the audience!!! I love the idea people who have watched this are at this moment carefully cutting their reflector cards into octagon shapes because Daniel recommended it. (timmee_mr, Insta) ps. Alison has the kind of modest beauty that suddenly catches you unawares.

How do you make the “Brooklyn reflector” with the silver on the back?
@dvongrad
@dvongrad Год назад
If you haven't already found it, search for "Brooklyn Reflector Version 2.0". There's also one from 4 years ago where he glues down aluminum foil instead of using silver spray paint.

Hey Daniel, thank you for the help with flash. I have a small doubt. Does the depth of a softbox have any bearing on the effectiveness of the same? Thanks in advance.
@MrJueKa
@MrJueKa 2 года назад
ok, better late than never: Daniel said in another video, that the depth of a light modifier, a softbox or mainly a reflector umbrella for instance, makes a more directed light the more depth the modifier has ... that`s why he would recommend a larger and deeper silver/aluminum reflector umbrella with or without a diffusor fabric as a first modifier even for small spaces and as a good solution to begin with, that was his first and for a long time the only modifier when he starts his own studio photography ... and the larger the modifier the softer the light, "two birds with one stone"

Daniel or anyone that can help. I have 2 air sync non ttl triggers. The connect and the ttl Sony. I have an issue trying to trigger the camera not the flashes. Can anyone help.
@DanielNortonPhotographer
@DanielNortonPhotographer 4 года назад
I can't say I've ever triggered a camera with an air-remote (I use pocket wizards) what cable are you using?
@MrJueKa
@MrJueKa 2 года назад
take a look at Yongnuo RF 602 or 603 Wireless Flash Trigger, these sets also ship with an 3-to-10 pin adapter cable for triggering your camera's shutter release, but you have to make sure that the cable fits your camera, there are different sets - these sets can also only be used to trigger the camera in parallel with any other flash trigger system - these simple non-TTL sets work fine for me with my Nikon cameras and various speedlites (in manual mode) for instance
