I get back into gamedev after several years on the same day that you upload your first video in two years. That's a wild coincidence, I don't know if it's fate but I'm going to treat it as such and take it as a sign to see my project all the way to completion.
Aw this is so heart warming to hear. I'm feeling the weight of the distance & time and it's lovely to know we're not alone! Thank you for commenting, you've definitely helped my momentum -- I wish you the best with your project!!
This is very nostalgic to me as when I first started coding I used GameMaker and watched most of your videos. This was many years ago and I have moved on to Unity but still great to see you are back.
Your Gamemaker videos are fantastic, they're some of the most beginner friendly tutorials I've seen for any programming related medium out there. They helped me realize programming isn't always as difficult as I was worried it might be.
One of the best GameMaker tutorial channels! I learned so much from the textbox series and the menu series. Your explanations are very clear and help to learn, not just copy. I'm excited to see what comes next.
Great to see you upload again. Your Space Rocks tutorial was the first experience I ever had with coding and it made me realize just how doable and actually fun it is.
Coming back to your channel after you helped me SO much with my player movement and collisions. Literally the only part of my game that isn’t a buggy mess right now. Excited to watch more of your stuff!
Hey! You got me started on making games many years back, I've since moved on to other engines but I wanted to say thank you for making your content! You really have a great way of explaining things and that just makes concepts click for me, and I'm sure many others! I've come back to your videos many times for refreshers, thank you so much for all your hard work!
I've been hoping to get into gamemaker as my preferred game development tool for a very long while now. This couldn't have come out at a more perfect time! I can't wait for more!!
Glad to see you're back! A long time ago, I used your old text box tutorial in my game! It worked so well, I decided to create NPCs and wrote a whole bunch of dialogue!
I just discovered your channel recently and thought your videos were so great! I was sad to see that you hadn't uploaded anything new in a while. I also decided that I probably won't keep using GameMaker because of compatibility issues with Mac silicon. (I used GameMaker extensively with a previous version on Windows and I've recently been dipping my toe back into game dev.) Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I think you're awesome!
I sent you a message on Twitter not even thinking that you had recently uploaded more videos! Welcome back and... of course I have a question. Is it possible to create 8 directional movement with the diagonal movement being offset? So instead of the character moving at a 45 degree angle, they move at say 30 degrees from horizon? for clearer understanding, I am making an isometric game and I'd like the movement to match up to the view but I'm not sure how to do that...
@@FriendlyCosmonaut Great to see u back, but give us some background, is this the start of something bigger.? Did YoYo ask u to do this .? seems a bit 'Out of the Blue' ....
@@SafetyKitten $100 to buy it if you want to release anything. Then they do a bait and switch and say you have to buy enterprise to start charging you annually because the "One Time purchase" key goes out in a year. Then, as if that isn't enough, if you export to console or mobile, that's yet another pay wall of $499. On top of that, it doesn't export correctly and all of our images turn black and have to be rebuilt from scratch for that export only. Adding months to a year of work. Other engines may not do 2D as easily. But the small learning curve is well worth the headache of that mess.
@@HalkerVeil Mobile exports are in the free version too, along with the pc exports. Afaik, you're licensed to release your game on mobile or pc with the professional license, which is a one time purchase - not yearly, idk where you got that misconception. It was yearly shortly but is now back to being a one-time purchase. If you want to export to console, you can buy a monthly license instead of a yearly one and simply not renew until you have to. Have you spoken to them about the last issue?
@@SafetyKitten I have but it was before Opera took over. And our account is no longer valid when we log in so that is a whole other issue. If they changed the price model for the better, then perhaps it is back to a viable option for some.
@@HalkerVeil You should be able to convert your account, although I'm not sure. I don't use an opera account for it myself and haven't encountered any issues so far at least. The pricing changed recently, shortly after the unity charade. It's much better now with a permanent license existing properly, with monthly subs rescinded only to console support.
