As a brief pause to my music uploads, many know I was adopted as a baby, so I want to share with you all a little intro to my adoption story! I was adopted as a baby (17 days old) to a loving family, Steve and Mary Lynne, and a brother named Troy!
This is one of MANY positive adoption stories out there, and I hope it helps inspire all, including my fellow adoptees, adoptive and birth families. I found my birth mother years ago, and although I've never seen her in person, and her family doesn't know about me, I am SO thankful to her for making the courageous decision to have me and making the choice to give me up for adoption! I’m also very grateful to my parents for adopting me, raising me, and setting up a wonderful foundation to my life! Military home, church, private school, sports, supporting all my endeavors, just to name a few. Everything I’ve been through, the ups and the downs, have shaped me into the woman I am today, and my upbringing is a huge part of that! I always knew I was adopted, and was told from a very early age that being adopted made me special because I was “chosen.” I was VERY LOVED!!
The journey of searching for and/or finding your birth family, as well as the outcome, connection and experience is surely different for everyone.
I grew up not knowing anything about my birth family because all that was given to my parents at the time of the closed adoption, was a single sheet of generic information about my birth mom. I always wondered what my birth parents might look like, why I might’ve been given up for adoption, and if I had any siblings out there. In general, as a creative person, I’ve always been fascinated by history and genealogy and what ancestors did in the past as a foundation for generations that followed. Also, I had really bad asthma as a kid, and even though I eventually grew out of it, I thought it would be nice to know any health information.
Why I did the test - A business man we met who found out about me having some Native American in my blood, approached me about doing a DNA test. If my results stated “Indigenous” on my report, then he was going to connect me to an advocate to help trace back to my tribe. On a side note, and different story, through Ancestry.com I was able to do that myself.
After years of believing my birth dad was deceased, I got to meet my biological dad and biological family who never knew I existed until 2 1/2 months ago! I've met my sister, my brother, 1st & 2nd cousins, an aunt, brother-in-law, and nephew! I've shared photos of them on my instagram and Facebook (linked below). This is the first time I’m posting photos/video of my birth dad! They are all so affectionate and loving, so we are very thankful for their warm addition - they are a bonus to my already beautiful family.
What makes this story so unique, and so God ordained, is this was something neither one of us knew that was out there to experience! These last 2 1/2 months have been a crazy roller coaster of emotions. This is just a little bit of my story to share and there’s more to come, so stay tuned!!!
To all the adoptees, parents of adopted kids, and birthparents watching, I hope this was a video and story that lifted your spirits!
