I am a (mostly) self taught poet and I love your videos because they give me a different view of the things I have already learned about.

Thank you so much for sharing this illuminating course! I have really enjoyed going through the available readings, and I must say it has blessed my life and helped me write poetry by trying to understand what prose poetry is, of which you provide so many excellent examples. I have really been enjoying the material, I wish I was in this class!

Thank you for making this video! I'm in University studying Creative Writing. I've done my GCSE of course, but I am one of the few (maybe the only) person who hasn't done an A Level in English Literature. This puts me at a great disadvantage. I'm probably more well-read than most of them, but my technique is worse (I hate the word worse). Anyway, they told me to write a Prose poem and I just wrote a regular poem. Just now found out a prose poem is a lot different. This video will be a great help in assisting me to rewrite it.

Fantastic media! Thank you for sharing your splendid studies. Very interesting approach. I think Edgar Allan Poe is the greatest prose poet who ever lived/ive never heard of many of the poets you have mentioned, thanks I'm going to check them out. I don't think anyone before Mr Poe the poet had written prose poetry as fine as any of his masterpiece stories, but no one in progeny would be quite Poe the poet (who I think is the undisputed king with the Raven and Eureka!). I am looking forward to taking a look at the fine anthology. Thank you for this class~ American poetry is alive and well. I learnt a lot.

I'm attempting to write a story for the first time, the feedback and such I have had with my first few chapters have almost all told me it's poetic in delivery. So I guess, I've been inadvertently writing a large prose? I find the concept confusing

how do you differentiate prose poem and free verse? they seem very similar.
@zachlinge8861
@zachlinge8861 3 года назад
Lewis Turco (and a lot of similar people) would say there’s no difference, that there is no thing as “free verse.” I’m not Turco, though. I side with those who typically make the distinction between lineated and unlineated verse. The former, if unmetered, I call free verse; the latter I call prose poetry. Great question!!
