In this video, you will learn about the PowerApps If statement. The If function is the cornerstone of all apps so the more you know the better. We cover the basics of If logic, how to use the function, and cover PowerApps If multiple conditions. Fun stuff.

Wow! When I saw there's a video about "IF" thought it's going to take like 5-7 minutes. Boom, 28! Then I was thinking "let's just watch it, but it's going to be a waste of time as I know my IFs". Wrooong, blown away by the "nested ifs". And I'm just at the 13th minute. Who knows what comes next. Apologies, master Young, doubt you again never I will... Edit: And I've also learnt about PowerApps being mad when a variable is defined differently somewhere else. Answers some of my questions I had in the past... Thank you!

Honestly ... you do such a great job that it almost doesn't matter. The only thing that's still bugging me about Flow & Power-Apps is the Date-Diff thing because most of our RFI/RFW apps show a column for "Days Til Due" that needs to update daily. I'm pretty sure that's a scheduled Flow thing ... but it's pretty sketchy (I haven't looked in the last few weeks but haven't seen a Date-Diff function in Flow yet.) ... cont.->

The PowerApps thing that I'd like to see more of is graphs and charts ... (and I'll be dead-honest; I'm being super-lazy in suggesting this because I've barely looked at the "Budget Tracker" sample app but it looks cool and I want to see more. I'm going to try to do this with a SharePoint list as a data source. I'm also going to try to manipulate the graph to show information in different ways (it's a pie chart showing individual expenses ... but I would want to look at a chart that goes by expense type as well.

Hi Shane, Thanks for the videos they are great. I have a question about this... so in my App I have a dropdown list of contracts that start between A-O and another list underneath that has contracts starting with P-Z. I want to add something in, maybe a label that says does your contract fall between A-O or P-Z.. then have an A-O button & a P-Z button underneath. If the user selects the A-O button, only the A-O Dropdown list will show and vice versa if the P-Z button is selected. Can this be done and if so is it through using the IF function? Please help :)

Hey Shane! Question for you... I have a data card that I only want visible if certain values in another data card are selected. I was able to do this with one: If(FormsNeededValue.Selected.Value="Form 5471", true, false) But I have 5 other forms ("Form 5472," etc.) that should also make this visible when selected. Is there a way to make this rule for multiple values? I tried: If(FormsNeededValue.Selected.Value="Form 5471", "Form 5472", true, false) but it won't work. I appreciate your videos!

Hi Shane, really useful video. I am a bit of a novice when using Powerapps and your videos have really helped. I do have a question, I have a form which has 20 dropdowns to say in "progress", "complete", "cancelled". I also have an overall status dropdown. I tried using the "IF" formula in the video where if "cancelled" is selected in the overall status dropdown, it automatically then puts all the other dropdowns to "cancelled" option. My formula does not do anything and when I tried creating rules when doing the action part, I can not select a dropdown to select the "cancelled" option? what are your thoughts or recommendations?

For example in the combobox if 1 or 2 or 3 is selected then the dropdown box would only display X, Y, and Z. also if the combo box selected values are 3,4,5 then the dropdown would display only A,B, and C I have been trying to figure this out for days and have made no progress.

Hi Shane, First thank you for your awesome tutorials. However I need your help to solve an issue concerning if function. I've created an app which allows an auditor to add compressed air leaks (location, description) of the factory to a collection being offline. Then, when he grab an internet connection, a button permit him to upload those leaks to an Excel database stored on the factory's buisiness drive. There are hundreds of records to upload so the process is quite long but it doesn't matter. The problem is that if during the upload, the internet connection crashes, all the leaks not uploaded are lost ! To avoid this to happen I putted the remove function in an if(Connection.Connected, remove(collection, last record uploaded). But the condition is only checked once when the upload button is actionned so when connection cut off the collect function stops while the remove function keep running. How, without using a timer, can I force the condition to be checked each time a leak is uploaded ? Thank you again. A.Cadoret

I have an app I'm building for parts inventory. there's an "In stock" with a plus and minus button with the quantity showing in the middle and "in exchange" with a plus and minus button with the quantity amount showing in the middle. I'm trying to set it up so if there is, for example, 1 part in stock but it needs to go in for exchange, I can click the plus on "In exchange" and it will subtract one from in stock and add one to in exchange. If there are 0 in stock, it will simply add one to exchange (or possibly provide an error instead saying they have none to exchange). Same goes for the other way around. When an item comes back from exchange, we can hit the plus for in stock and it subtracts one from in exchange. If there are none in exchange, it will still add one. I can't seem to get it to work right. It doesn't like how I'm selecting the field to look at. I simply want it to look at the field and, if the amount is greater than or equal to 1, it will subtract one from stock and add one to exchange. Here's what I'm putting in. Thoughts? It throws an error about the colon on the 2nd line. if I remove it and put a semicolon it says DtlsInStockAmount is supposed to be a number. What am I missing? If( Description: DtlsInStockAmount

I have SP List with Title and Acronym. I also have a ComboBox that allows selection of Title. If the ComboBox has a selected value, If(!IsEmpty('ComboBox1'),Concatenate('ComboBox1'.Selected.'Acronym',"-")), in a Text box, returns the acronym followed by dash (ie: "mpl-") which is what I want. However if Title is not selected, just a dash is returned but I want nothing returned. It seems like If is interpreting ,"-" as the else portion of the if statement in this case. I have tried putting parenthesis around the full Concatenate with same result. I have tried adding an if of Blank() with same result. I have also added both the parenthesis and else Blank() with same result. How can I get an empty value if ComboBox1 does not have a selected value? Also, YES keep doing these. They are very helpful.

Have tried setting date to UTC or Local makes no difference, Removed field and re-added(Refreshed) and this makes no difference. DateTimeFormat.Shortdate and Sysdate field set to date only 'Standard'. I honestly do not know what to try next? Thanks again

Shane, I've been thoroughly enjoying your videos and putting many of the concepts to work immediately. One aspect of PowerApps that you don't seem to have hit on yet, and something that I've been struggling with, is the deployment process. I'm coming from SharePoint 2010 (on premises) and have done a ton of work with SharePoint Designer Workflows and InfoPath forms. The deployment/permissions model of SPD WF and IP forms is very different from PowerApps and Flow, so I'm looking for guidance on the "best practice" for how to deploy a PowerApps/Flow-based solution for end-users (ie: members) in a SharePoint site. I know this is a big can of worms, but if you could share some details about how PowerApps911 deploys solutions to their clients, that would be immensely helpful!
@ShanesCows
@ShanesCows 6 лет назад
Hi Chad - The nice thing is once you publish the App you can then hit share and give usage permissons to the users. Then if they have the PowerApps app the app will show up for them. Or you can publish the link via SharePoint and they have access. I don't think about the deployment process much. Maybe I should but since it is a link I haven't had issues. What kind of issues are you running into?
@cvkealey
@cvkealey 6 лет назад
Well, except for a few very rough apps for internal (IT dept) use, we haven't really deployed any PowerApps. I guess the bigger question or issue I foresee is properly setting permissions on the underlying data sources. We did a LOT of SP2010 workflows with Impersonation Steps, which allowed us to roll out the associated InfoPath applications without worrying about whether end users had permissions to the lists, or having to create safeguards around them to prevent users from directly accessing & editing them (e.g., we REALLY didn't want people able to approve their own leave requests). So, really, what we're a bit anxious about is how to roll out PowerApps and Flows without that "Impersonation" function/feature which does not (and I've heard will not) exist in either.

How would you use an if Statement under items where you have a data source? I am working on the service desk template and the dashboard has 2 galleries.. one for the tickets and one for the gallery filter. The ticket gallery starts with an IF statements but it does not pick up the data source information while the filter gallery breaks down multiple conditions.. here is an example of ticket gallery and this just does not work.. If( type = "Tickets older than 3 days", Filter( Tickets, DateCreated datetype && DateCreated Text(Today()), DateCreated Text( DateAdd( Today(), -2 ) ), DateCreated Text( DateAdd( Today(), -1 ) ) || DateClosed datetype && DateClosed Text(Today()), DateClosed Text( DateAdd( Today(), -2 ) ), DateClosed Text( DateAdd( Today(), -1 ) ) ), If( type = "Tickets opened today", Filter( Tickets, datetype in DateCreated ), If( type = "Tickets closed today", Filter( Tickets, datetype in DateClosed ), Filter( Tickets, type in Status ) ) ) )

CHris nothing looks wrong at first glance. If I was you I would take everythign out and then add one Filter at a time and test. See if you can find the one that breaks things. 1. Tickets - Does it work? 2. Filter(Tickets, ...) - Does it work? 3. If(Something, TIckets, Filter(tickets,...)) - Does it work? And then just keep adding a piece at a time. :) YOu got this.
