Both are bullshit , you onky have synths because people arent BR ght enough to play proper music instruments , quantum mechanics ? Because people in day care or uni , cant face reality . Sothey make it up .
I have to give Korg a lot of respect for doing what YAMAHA SHOULD HAVE DONE. Bring the classic 6 OP FM sound into the 21ST CENTURY. And you can carry these around anywhere. Not so easy with the old DX7. Also you can now do FM filter style sweeps WOW. Eventually I will own three of these. My DX7 recently died. And this is what I have been waiting for. Add a decent controller keyboard. And let the legend begin.
R u sure...? Electribe 2 for example, wich i was waiting for years is big downgrade comparing to a lot older gear. No updates or nothing (witch could solve the problem with ease) witch is shame . There is even a worldwide petition for update but Korg dont give a Damon. Ps. Akai made update right after relase new one and Roland team updated gear after watching some RU-vid coment wideos...
@@happyendy An update means something was either defective or lacking to begin with. In a perfect world nothing would ever need to be updated. Of course feature enhancements are always nice of course.
It'll be nice if Korg had something like the "Volca Piano". All black case like the Volca Kick that not produces DSP piano sounds but also Rhodes, Clav et al.
Does it not have a sequencer? If so you could step record the notes you want to create custom arpeggios I’ve done this on the Volca modular and it works quite well.
Wait. Wait. Do you see how FM synthesis works? It starts off a fundamental generator, which is then pitch shifted to create the modulators. It would be more complex, but in principle there's no reason why arbitrary sound source couldn't be used as an input. In other words, creation of FM pedal is possible, even of nobody has so far been arsed to do it. Plus it couldn't have been done in the 80ies.
Wow, what a great product! I'm a big time DX7 fan and I absolutely loved how you boiled down it's character into this little machine and added some nice features! Will get this right away!
My favorite Korg instruments are: DSS-1, DS-8, DW-8000, M1, Wavestation, and the T-series. All of them were dream to have. The Volcas have fantastic sound engines, and great aesthetics to. Sort of reminiscent of the VHS tape sized QY10 sequencer. Now, to have a Volca in 5-octave keyboard form factor would be so exciting. Something like the DS-8 reissue with Volca FM synth engine, with at least 8 voices of polyphony, velocity keyboard, and aftertouch. Ah, nice to dream...
Played with this lovely synth-y thing-y yesterday at a friend's and I really enjoyed it, even though I only scratched the surface of its capabilities. Not disappointed at all. Good job, Mr. Korg.
Some Volca ideas that would be cool: Volca wave (wavetable synth with onboard wave drawing/design) Volca mix (A volca sized audio interface/mixer for your other volcas) Volca FX (A multi effects processor) Just some ideas for future volcas. Keep up the great work Korg!
You can get a Volca Mix for free if you buy 3 Volcas between May 15 and August 15, save your receipts and make sure they're bought from an authorized dealer like Sweetwater: www.korgusa.com/RedeemBuy3getmixfree
Love the presentation. Appreciate the fine nuances of your user interface design... well thought out. Appreciate the illustrations explaining what you did. Kudos!
I’ve been researching mini desktops and this is the most impressive by a country mile. A cigar box DX7 for a ton, I’ll go hungry and teetotal for a week.
My 6th Volca (have both editions of the Sample), and I have to say this is my favorite. Great job. Good to see that Korg finally released something to address the relative complexity. Try to find a pdf of The Complete DX7.
There's 2 versions of the Sample? Now I need to know, because that's the first one I want to get. What are the differences, is one superior overall or do they both have their pros and cons? Looking for something to jam with my Minilogue, and to qualify for this: www.korgusa.com/RedeemBuy3getmixfree
I think I need this. I am low income and can't afford to spend hundreds or thousands on a synth. For under $200; this is something I can save up my pennies for. Since it does MIDI I can plug it in to my Yamaha or RadioShack MIDI keyboards to get a nice 61 key keyboard to use. I love that it has a built in sequencer and arpeggiator.
@@TheScreamingFrog916 Currently I use an Arturia Keystep Pro. I have a couple of FM synths. A Yamaha PSS-680 and a Yamaha FB-01. I have been keeping an eye out for a good price on a DX 7. So I probably won't get the Volca FM.
If you come out with a firmware update for these that makes them respond to note velocity through midi, I will buy 2 of them. With note velocity, these would KILL reface DX.
@@Phychologik So? If he has notifications on he'll see and might reply. Just because it's from years ago doesn't mean I can't reply. You might be surprised how many old comments I've replied to and gotten another response back from. Plus if OP hasn't heard of it yet, he gets to find out through a comment, which would be cool for him :)
If only there was a software for all these volcas to easily save the sounds and use in the DAW. I'm aware of Volcacontrol, but would be great for something up to date.
I have a question. When you are in the menu and the volume parameter means something other than the volume (let's assume it's feedback) Is it going to change the feedback feedback by giving automation to the volume knob ???
Would of course have been much much *much* nicer without the built in speaker, and with a proper output stage, but looks nice. If we could just get them in european stores then...
"Output Stage?" What's that? I like the built-in speaker, I like the idea of taking a bunch of these powered by batteries to the woods and jamming in the Heart of Nature
Volca with the most sexy color scheme. Brown green! Not just a functional improvement of Volca, I have been followed every of his Volca intruduction and now his English speaking skill become so good that I can't tell anymore that Japanese person is speaking!
The only thing we are missing is how to backup the patches created on the Volca FM without buying another one. I've tried recording the ouput from the sync jack, but it doesn't seem to work when I play it back into the Volca FM.
Hey there What is the best way to record midi tracks out from the FM into the DAW if that is actually possible?! And what cables or gear needed for that
+rollerv unfortunately we can't expect that as Korg Tatsuya has been saying for a long time that the memory of the original Volcas is already filled up with the firmware that is, but we can always hope.
With the original you should be able to play van halen jump europe carrie aha take on me, inhavent heard anyone do that with the fm yet.....please correct me if im wrong
If the Volca FM is modified and fitted with a MIDI out socket, does the note data played by the using the built-in arpeggiator patterns get sent to MIDI out?
+Torstein Pedersen Volca FM supports MIDI CC 41 (Velocity), but does *NOT* respond to Note Velocity via MIDI! So, if one wants to play expressively using velocity-sensitive MIDI keys or some other controller, they won't be able to.
+Torstein Pedersen My hope is that if enough people complain, then Korg might fix it in a firmware update. It would be so nice to play Volca FM from WX-5 wind controller...
He is japanese and is able to speak intelligible english? I must have ended up in some wacky alternate timeline again. This timeline is weird and scary, I wanna go back.
Not saying anything nasty but why do these people still manufacture monophonic or 2,3 voices synths. Not saying the synths are bad or you cannot do anthing with it but with such low polyphony, with the exception of basslines or efx or may be a solo lead, for me its very very limited and a serious disadvantage, also consider it as not a so good investment. The 6 operators and 32 algorithms is excellent though unlike some simulated fm synths especially software synths with only 4 ops and just 8 routing algos.
Manfred klaus you can get 2 volca FM and chain them together for 6 voices and it's still cheap as fuck so stop moaning ..if you want something more you need to pay little bit more...there is no real arguing point in this price range about the volca FM but yes some people like you gonna complain about anything...so like a said want more voices pay more
Manfred klaus I'm kinda considering getting this not as an instrument, but a learning tool. You can always replicate patches on VSTs and get more flexibility that way. But this piece of hardware seems to make the steep learning curve (of fm) much easier.
As an introduction to analogue synthesis, this video is completely useless. I would've thought these machines are targeted towards the inexperienced newbies rather than the synth Phds
