That's true. Mamamoo does focus on their vocals, so their choreo maybe "easier" compared to other ggs but then again, they don't really you know, "follow" the choreograph. More like they "perform". They do adlibs, they engage with the audience. They have fun on stage XD But recently, they decided to challenge their own selves and start having much more difficult choreography. It started with Gogobebe, then w/ Hip. And AYA, accdg to them, is the most difficult one to date. Actually, there are 2 videos before Mr. Ambiguous, but those are just pre-releases, or kinda like intro to Mamamoo. Don't Be Happy and Peppermint Chocolate. They both have mvs. After Mr. Ambiguous, Piano Man is next. Also like everyone says here, pls react to Mamamoo's Immortal Songs medley. It's a medley to the songs they performed on Immortal Songs 2 (a show where they cover and give their own take of a certain artist/composer for that episode). Idol groups don't appear much on that show, but Mamamoo has appeared numerous times and even won some episodes (against well known singers in Korea). This show really helped them be recognized by the general public in S.K. ^^ Immortal Songs Medley is like a blessing to one's soul haha Hope you enjoy your Mamamoo journey! ^^ Edit: i'm subscribing! :D

That last clip was from the "mamamoo silhouette talk truth game". God, they tore into each other so hard (poor wheein arguably had it the hardest), but not in a rude way. Wheein is Def my bias. Her personality is just my style.

Wheein is my bias but really you could tell me who my bias is and I'd be like "yes, of course, absolutely, love her." But Wheein's voice is so gorgeous. They only showed her sweet tones but she can belt too and she has incredible control--great runs. And I love the juxtaposition between her voice and face and her totally chill style and cool dance style. But again, they're all so great! Four members who could all dominate on their own, tbh.

I'm telling you, their dance practices are the most funny thing to watch, I mean they are good dancing for sure, but they do everything on their on way. So there is no waste in watching them dance. Also their live performance are amazing and I'm not talking about music shows ( which are really good) but also in festivals. I dunno, everything about them is full of their energy and carisma. Mamamoo members are all introverts. They are loud only when they are in their comfort zone. As the guide said, Wheein is the most introverted out of all the members. She missed her flight for US Kcon last year and had to be rushed to the hospital from the airport. She was diagnosed with high levels of anxiety and had to take a break from schedules for a month or two. This "break" coincided with the schedule for Queendom, so she would only appear during actual performances.

dance practices are a must watch 😂even though their main focus isn’t choreography all the time their dance are fun and their dance practices are quite full or crack😂😅 it’s very rare if they take a dance practice seriously due to the fact that mamamoo is very much known for being relatable and down to earth so if they don’t feel like taking it serious they won’t take it serious 😂😂

for hwasa: sure enough, wheein was in hwasa's "twit", just like hwasa was in wheein's "easy". a funny thing is that on top of that, the two songs are pretty much two sides of the same coin. "easy" is about a person who devotes her life to loving a person that obviously doesn't love them back, takes them for granted. so gets upset at this and eventually leaves. "twit" is about a person making fun of the person they're in a relationship with for putting them on a pedestal, calling them foolish for it and constantly belittling them, then eventually realizing they made the person that way, wanting to fix the relationship, but too late... the other person finally wised up and moved on she was recently on 'hidden singer', where they found five other women to try and sound like her (one was one of her own company's songwriters/producers!). they had a tough time but actually did a decent job of trying to sound like her, though it was obvious to quite a few people which one was the real hwasa "wish you were gay" is a billie eilish song that hwasa and (you'll see) covered together in 'queendom'. following that in the guide was "don't" with loco, which took south korea by storm when it was released. neither one expected anything of the song since it was just done for a tv show. but good lord did south korea fall for them, hard also, just wait until you see mamamoo live performances. each of these four women will demand 100% of your attention when she the focus onstage, then they drop back and do their best to fade into the background so the next one does the same you're right about the international/domestic fandom thing for hwasa... at least, early on. she really didn't fit the expected kpop beauty standard, so a lot of koreans started out disliking her (and all of mamamoo, really). but that didn't last, esp as the girls let everyone always see just how they were, they never faked anything and they also showed that those attitudes didn't really affect them (their performances on 'immortal songs 2' also helped). the korean public started embracing her even before 'i live alone' but her popularity really took off then, and she really is loved by a large amount of koreans. especially women, who are quite happy with the way she's challenged beauty standards and won, becoming her own standard as she said she would at the same time, a lot of international fans new to kpop always get drawn to hwasa precisely because she looks different. that's typically the number one comment from those new to kpop: 'omg, she's thick and gorgeous. i need more of her". sadly, many international fans already entrenched in kpop (esp younger ones) are 100% sold on the super skinny and super pale idols so they constantly bash on hwasa for her looks. they're also often the core of those creating all the fake stories trying to make her look bad, run with whatever they think they can get away with and then refuse to apologize when it's proven to not be true... ...also, yes, certain korean media outlets loved trying to use her as a punching bag just as much as stan twitter (and other social media). they loved calling out anyone that didn't fit the conservative norms, and that included every member of mamamoo, but especially hwasa since her stuff was more visually blatant. even that one bit they included in this video, an interviewer asking her about not wearing a bra at the airport... that was done at the group's media showcase when they released 'reality in black' (the album "hip" was on). the other girls got furious that a member of the media would target hwasa like that and they jumped in answering the questions aimed at their makne so she wouldn't have to all four of these women are at the forefront of south korea's burgeoning feminism movement for so many reasons: the fact that much of their music is about self-empowerment and/or female empowerment, the fact that they don't just talk/sing about any of this but lead by example, they wear what they want, say what they want, do what they want and damn the consequences. the fact that they are willing to question men who tell them to do things instead just blindly going 'okay, yes sir' like their culture teaches them to (that's something one of their ceos was big on, btw. letting them know it is good to challenge things they don't agree with. but all four were already like that before, too). they're strong-headed, stubborn and willful women in a society that teaches women to be meek and submissive and that gets them a lot of interest and support from korean women who want to be just like them. they also openly support lgbtq+ in big ways and small. and each member has her own personal feminist fight such as moonbyul's desire to remove gender stereotypes/roles and hwasa's fight against crazy beauty standards. all four also fully support each other's goals, too also, yes, hwasa is still extremely humble despite all her success. all four members of mamamoo are. they constantly thank the staff of any show they're on after recording (some staff invariably talk about that, one even posted a picture of the four girls getting on their knees to bow in thanks to them all), go out of their way to treat them to food or the like. and they treat their agency's staff like family, up to and including feeding them off their own plates at times. they started at the bottom, four unknown girls from an unknown agency and fought tooth and nail to get to where they are through sheer persistence and hard work, they always remember that and what it was like early on, so thank everyone that's helped them every step of the way. they even wrote several songs that are literal love songs to their fans (admittedly, solar did most of the writing for all those songs since her heart is just so big) offstage hwasa often gets called 'hyegi', which is a combination of her real name, hyejin and the korean word for baby, since she really is such a baby when she's offstage. so many people that just see her onstage persona still can't wrap their heads around offstage hyejin and that bit at the end is called 'mamamoo silhouette talk truth game' from one of their fan meetings back in...2017 or so

looks like you're getting some more crazy novel-length comments for wheein (and some stuff about the other members, too): she was actually the first of the four to officially debut as a soloist, with her song "easy" (which had hwasa guest in it. the two had promised each other they'd star each other in their first solo mvs. with wheein's "easy" and hwasa's "twit" they did just that) but because of a mix of her preference for 'indie' feel, her anxiety and a general dislike of promoting and the like on her own, she's never promoted any of her songs (that's apparently changing with her upcoming album, though. just today she said she'd be promoting on music shows with it). amazingly, even without promotions, her solo songs tend to do quite well on the charts, the ballads especially. which is funny, since ballad is her least favorite musical genre. she's a huge fan of r&b and hiphop as the guide says, both her voice and her dance style are very, very versatile. which often means she gets overlooked when the group is performing as a whole, esp with the way she's the group's backbone, keeping things steady while the others do their adlibs, high notes or the like. but man, when wheein hits a high note or adlib or the like, you feel it. her voice manages to blend perfectly with any partner or any genre. whatever she does just seems natural and effortless and...it just suits her, whatever it is. she's got a huge number of collabs (all the girls do, but wheein gets asked to collab the most) a kind of funny thing is that the three original vocalists in the group (before byul was comfortable enough to start singing with them these past few years) would mimic each other at different times, both fooling around and when recording and sometimes it's hard to tell if it's solar or hwasa or wheein mimicking them also, the solo stage bit here... mamamoo's concerts have always run past the expected 2 hours. their earlier ones would be up to 3 hours long, the ones back in 2019 were 4+ hours with the last one breaking the 5 hour mark. they have comedy skits the girls do, vcrs (basically prerecorded videos to play while the girls, dancers, and band get to relax for a few minutes and prep for the next part) and everyone has solo stages. the first concert gave each member about 7 minutes for their solo stage, later ones went to 10 minutes, and the ones last year gave each member 20 minutes to do whatever she wanted. one thing the girls are all adamant on is being able to show both their individuality and also their cohesiveness as a whole, how these four completely different people with such drastically different tastes and preferences manage to be so amazing together while still wholeheartedly embracing their individuality with the memory thing, she got enrolled into a cram study course as a kid and wound up being really good at it. she still uses whatever techniques she learned to memorize up to 30 words and recite them in order. she's done this a few times on livestreams, as well as on weekly idol once. and the knowing bros version was slightly different, since it had her competing with everyone else there to pick the words they remembered out of order some fans say she's got a near-photographic memory and point to the way she just kind of looks blank sometimes when watching other artists perform, saying she's not zoned out or anything but is in 'record' mode, memorizing everything to try and break down later and see if she can use any of it. dunno how true that is, but as this guide says, she's the first to learn new choreography, she even starts helping teach the other members also, yes, wheein is the best drinker out of the group, though moonbyul isn't terribly far behind. solar and hwasa are both lightweights, though. the group has something called 'tipsy lives' that they've released four of over the years, which is just them hanging out, eating, drinking and playing games together while the camera rolls double also, yes, wheein was the first idol to hit 3 10s in a row in isac archery wheein has been known to have anxiety, stemming from a variety of things, and she wound up taking about a month off from performing starting with kcon last year, which also kept her out of much of the filming of the majority of 'queendom'. she still went to do their live stages but didn't participate in the interviews, sitting together for vote tallies and all that. it also meant she missed the unit stages (as did solar for other reasons), so moonbyul and hwasa got those two roles without a fight. the red outfit was a queendom outfit an in the middle of her anxiety time, hence her acting that way there. yeah, the girls all have representative animals, you'll see it a lot in quick twitter translations for things, esp live interviews or the like: solar is either a bunny or dragon (since 'yong' in her real name can mean 'dragon') moonbyul is typically a mouse (meant to be a hamster, since that's her nickname for the way she stuffs her cheeks when eating) wheein is a dog/puppy (one of her most used nicknames is either pupwhee or wheepup, the latter mostly by international fans) hwasa is a lion (for a hair accident at one of their early christmas stages. she totally embraced it because she's a leo and likes the reference) also, as of 2018, they've gotten representative colors that most fan subbers will use. this was actually used throughout the guide here but is easy to not notice on your own. in 2018 they had their 'four seasons, four colors' project where they released 4 albums, each one focusing on a color, a season and a member of the group. so now the colors are hwasa: yellow, moonbyul: red, solar: blue and wheein: white. with green mostly used as 'someone outside mamamoo is speaking' and three of the members at least had pets... solar had a salt and pepper schnauzer named jjingjjing for 18 years, who sadly passed away last april. she was immortalized in two music videos, though. "taller than you" and "my hometown" wheein has ggomo here (also kkomo, depending on romanization), a scottish fold cat moonbyul has 3 corgis, daebak, haengwoon and kongang. they were recently on an idol dog competition show hwasa is allergic to fur so can't have a typical pet. so, instead, she has a giant stuffed animal lion named...lion ...and last up on this ultra long one... three of the four members have tattoos. wheein has at least 11 and is definitely getting another one with her upcoming solo album (she's gotten one to celebrate each previous solo album), moonbyul and hwasa both have either 6 or 7 (it can be hard to keep track) and solar has zero. the other three really want to get a group tattoo together but won't try to force solar into doing it. they've all said that if she ever says 'hey, lets go get one' they'll drop whatever they're doing and run off instantly to do it, though. all of their tattoos are artistic in some way and also have special significance to the member that has them. as this guide says, wheein and hwasa share two tattoos. hwasa also shares two other tattoos with other friends

about wheein! yes she can memorize 30 words or more? in a row, she's done it lots of times before and it never fails to amaze me! she rlly has a sharp memory hehehe

With Wheein, the talent _doesn't_ end; I swear that woman is a skill sponge. She sets her mind to something, and she's an expert in a week (this may be an exaggeration, but not by much)... 😜

There will be a part 3. They said they will do it after the comeback. So I expect it around a month. All mamamoo has a big duality and I love it. And there group chemistry is top notch. They really love each other. Edit: As for performance/dance cover definitely check it out. Eventho they are a vocal based group all of them are still above average dancers. Especially wheein who can play with the big guys like Lisa, momo and seulgi. Edit edit: don’t be fooled by the guide when it comes to power vocals all of the members have them. So eventho solar is known to be the belter of the group. Wheein and hwasa can hit those lame belting power and notes.

oh... and on choreo/dance... i will say that all their dance practices are must-watch. but... not really for the reason you'd expect. just like you've seen throughout this video, these four women will just be themselves wherever and if that means they want to goof around during a dance practice, they're going to goof around during a dance practice... yet still nail most of the important moves early on, they actually created much of their own choreography and still do that for their b-sides. but starting with "gogobebe" they've been using big-name choreographers to create choreo for their title tracks partially to show that 'yes, we can still dance harder choreo while still singing live' "gogobebe" was choreographed by mina myoung of 1 million dance "hip" was choreographed by lia kim of 1 million dance moonbyul's solo "eclipse" was choreographed by kasper, who is known for male idol choreo, esp with exo. she's the first female artist he ever worked with. and he came back to choreograph her song "absence" as well (he's also praised her and her backup dancers, both male and female, tremendously) solar's solo "spit it out" was choreographed by galen hooks (and solar herself) hwasa's solo "maria" was choreographed by lia kim of 1 million "aya" was choreographed by lia kim of 1 million wheein's upcoming solo... well, we'll see, but fully expect her to follow this pattern. esp as she's generally considered the most dance-focused in the group ...lia kim seems to absolutely love working with mamamoo, since she keeps coming back. she constantly praises the four of them but has a real fondness for hwasa, saying she really like the way hwasa puts her emotions into her moves

Mamamoo's choreo game has grown a lot and in the last year they've become comfortable with the headsets so they can focus more on dancing. I was pretty happy to see them with hand mics for the comeback show though. Their earlier videos are more like "Hey! Look at these attractive women who can sing amazingly!" and now it's like "Yass vocals! Drop it low girl! Yass twerking! Please stop biting your lip Solar!". 😂 One thing that Mamamoo lacks is the all important "concept" that K-Pop groups tend to be grouped into. They went from a retro concept to literally whatever they want. 🙌🏾 Anyway, you should check out their Mama 2019 performances because they're great. They not only performed a remix of HIP(they did an encore of this at K-Con 2020) but also with other acts too.

Also just warning to get ready for full on crackhead Wheein as you explore their content - well all of them lol Wheein technically is seen as the best singer in Mamamoo ( she can also do the typical belts if needed) - this guide didn't showcase a lot but all Solar, Hwasa and Wheein in Mamamoo are basically MAIN main vocal level in other groups but their voice are so different and unique they know how to blend well as a group and use their different strengths. If you watch their Immortal Songs Medley one day or any of the performances prepare to be blown away! And Moonbyul as their rapper can also sing ( she recently did a ballad cover too)! Can't wait for your exploration of their music - just to let you know before their debut they also have two great pre-releases called Don't be Happy and Peppermint Chocolate

Mamamoo = live performances I suggest you should take a look at some live performances including the performances in their concerts, solo concert stages, radio stages, etc. They are more interesting, as a moomoo I promise. And moomoo always like to see all Mamamoo contents without any hate. So don't worry, we also don't mind to watch long videos. :))

Thanks for the reaction. I watch "Knowing bros" too. Infact, thats how i came to know these charismatic ladies when they appeared for the first time in 2016 on that show.... Instantly fell in love when they performed their song by adding catch phrases from that show... They have appeared twice on that show so far...it was really funny... And yes, choosing a bias in Mamamoo is really hard. After 2 years, I have finally landed on Solar but the other 3 are my bias wreckers... Since you are getting to know Mamamoo, I would suggest their live performances "Immortal songs medley", all queendom and MAMA performances & their SOLO stages from Moosical, 4seasons concert.... Hope you have a great time !

Love these guides but as you get further into Mamamoo you will realize this guide is to help beginners. You will find out more if you watch them during live stages and on tv/streamed radio shows. Also the 6 seasons of Mamamoo TV on youtube.

You had a lot of questions that I think will get cleared up as you watch more videos. I'm trying not to blab so much but if there's anything you really want to know I'd be happy to answer in my typically overlong way. 🙄 For instance I could write a paragraph on the difference between the performance philosophy of MMM vs most kpop groups regarding dance but I think it will be apparent when you watch them live. A couple of things I recommend you prioritize: If you want to follow their MVs chronologically you should watch their two pre-debut collab MVs Don't Be Happy and Peppermint Chocolate. You MUST watch MMM live to truly appreciate their amazing vocals and riveting stage presence. TV shows such as Immortal Songs 2, Yu Huiyeol's Sketchbook, and Queendom sometimes have copyright issues (Sketchbook is a big no-no) but they're some of MMM's best performances and are must-see. Nobody seems to have copyright issues with their legendary 2018 MAMA Award Show performance, which is where Hwasa's red outfit comes from. A few MMM concert videos that you shouldn't have any trouble reacting to, listed by year and concert title: 2017: Moosical Curtain Call - Immortal Songs Medley. A medley of some of their early songs on Immortal Songs 2. 2018: 4 Seasons S/S - Each member did an 8 minute or so solo set - multiple fancams. 2019: 4 Seasons F/W - Each member did a 20 min or so solo set. A yt channel called Lylux uploaded a pro quality vid of a complete concert with Eng subtitles when the members speak to the audience. It's called MAMAMOO 4S F/W CONCERT COMPLETE (ENG SUB). The 4 Seasons F/W concerts were over 4 hours long. Their solo stages start with Moonbyul at 1:12:34, then Wheein, Hwasa, and finally Solar.

Just doing what they want to do is basically Mamamoo.

I agree about Hwasa's makeup on their early era

Early videos do have easier choreography, and for the most part, they self-choreographed everything up until early 2019 when they started working with 1Million dance studio. Lia Kim (CEO) in particular has taken a liking to them. Kasper, who is a famous boy group choreographer (esp w/ SM Ent, eg EXO), has also worked with Moonbyul on her solo stuff. The difference is that even with lighter choreography, Mamamoo commanded the stage by **playing** with it. They had hella ad libs (singing or dancing) in their early performances, and something was always different. After you watch their early MVs, you could search up the song with “ad libs” and see some compilations people have made (if you’re interested). Nowadays with slightly stricter choreography, there’s less room for those fun ad libs. But it certainly is still in their blood-they have also been promoting Dingga, a song that lets them do this. You can see them messing around with each other a little bit more for this track. They usually have the most fun at college festival performances, which have been lacking due to covid.

They don't have a dance practice / performance video for every single one of their title tracks like some other groups do, but starting from You're the Best, I believe they do have a dance practice for every single one of their title tracks (except Gogobebe, but they have a dance practice for the japanese version). I think it'd be fun if you still checked out the MV + dance practice (if available). You'll find dance practices for: You're the Best, Yes I Am, Starry Night, Egotistic, Wind Flower (a Christmas version), Gogobebe (Japanese Ver.), HIP, Dingga and AYA. Décalcomanie has a performance video also. I gotta warn you though, their dance practices are NOT your typical girl group dance practice and, for a lot of them, you'll have to watch from the Moomoo Subs or Mamamoo Archive channels, because you'll need context (LMAO) and those don't have subs on the Mamamoo channel (but these two channels I mentioned are pretty much the official MMM translators, so you're safe watching there).

I don't know what you heard but from my experience in the MAMAMOO fandom Hwasa is unfortunately less respected internationally than in Korea. From what I see she is the idol who compared to her popularity is criticized bullied and discredited with false claims the most by international fans. MAMAMOO as a whole also had a few controversies (from an international standpoint) over the years, which regularly get brought up without context and are blown up out of proportion. Still: If you want to be a part of the fandom, I would recommend at least learning about these controversies and why some people might not be able to forgive them for mistakes they made in the past. For me personally the mistakes were mostly harmless or just that: Mistakes made by mistake and they shouldn't be criticized for eternity for them. Also with all their inspiring, counter-culture, change-promoting acts, they imo more than made up their few mistakes.
