Look a lot like the Phantom antennas I bought many years ago( at least 20 years ago ) they worked good enough for me. Used on commercial frequencies. Low SWR on UHF but their VHF line requires tuning to a specific split of the VHF spectrum via a small tuning capacitor located behind a rubber plug on the side of the antenna. From what I have worked with they best operated when mounted on the to center of the vehicle roof.

I have a question somewhat related to this video. I have a single GXT 1000 VP4 radio. I saw on Reddit that apparently there’s multiple versions? The older versions output 5 W and the newer versions only output 2.8. How do I know which version of the GXT 1000 I have?

The Melowave GMRS (longer) antenna looks good, but there is absolutely no information available on the antenna.

The longer GMRS antenna under the Melowave brand is known as the "Overlander". You can find it listed on our site with information available on the bottom of the page. @@BuyTwoWayRadios does it need a ground plane? What is "2 x 5/8 wave"?

A 5/8 antenna uses a vertical design and functions by using the vehicle as a ground plane. 2 x 5/8 antennas are a variation of that which uses this concept twice: one for the bottom radiator and one for the top. For these antennas a ground plane is required, yes, but given that they are mobile antennas they are already designed to use your vehicle as a ground plane.

@@BuyTwoWayRadios the only metal area is my hood, since my top is fiberglass (2021 JLUR). If I mount it on a cowl mount, does that count as "already designed to use your vehicle as a ground plane"? The cowel isn't exactly a flat plane. :)

Is your cowl mount metal and directly connected to your hood? If so, it should work as a ground plane.
