Ahh darn I just barely bought the 205T from you last month with aquasafari, I already have hit some of the limitations of this microscope as a beginner. I really wish it had the movable baseplate and slightly higher magnification. Also I got a camera adapter to put my lumix on there to record videos through the eyepiece, I don't think this is the best way though as I feel I am not getting the sharpest video possible. I wish this was available when I bought it, is there anyway I could get that microscope and the rest of the kit without the aquasafari as I already have it? Love your products and videos you have introduced me to this awesome hobby! I would love to keep purchasing through you if possible.

Hi Erik, Let me check in with our supplier and see if they can provide just the mechanical stages. I have a feeling this is going to be a common request with folks that purchase the Horizons Lite kit (which uses the 205T). The magnification is an easy upgrade to offer as well. As for the camera - I think this is an issue with a mismatch between the image sensor of the lumix an the image type that you are trying to capture. Microscope images can often be low contrast between the object and its surroundings. I own a lumix G9 and its 4k images come out with less fidelity than either the USB eyepiece camera that comes on Horizons Lite or the HDMI camera on Horizons. I think that these microscope cameras are engineered to be application-specific and handle the low contrast nature of microscope imagry. I've been able to record images through the 205T eyepiece that are equivalent image quality to the full Horizons Microscope. Note that both the Horizons eyepiece camera and the Horizons HDMI camera are the equivalent of using a 25x eyepiece because of the physical size of the pixels on the image sensor. So on the 205T you can get 1000x magnification without changing objectives. I'll send you a follow up to your email once I check in with the manufacturer and figure out a solution for you.

@micro_safari thank you for the quick response! I appreciate the information, yeah I would love to be able to purchase a sliding plate if possible for it! I really like the microscope I think it is awesome and works really well just the plate holds me back slightly. Quick question I just setup my first aqua safari last night! It is really awesome I love the design and ease of use it's really fun to play with. I am not able to use the highest magnification on the 205t with the aquasafari though is this normal or am I doing something wrong? And lastly, can I use the hdmi camera right through where the eyepiece goes on the 205t? If I can do that then honestly my kit is almost complete if I buy one from you.

@@BlunderB Sure thing. I will be in touch soon about the mechanical stage. We appreciate your feedback! You are correct, Micro Safari Aqua does not work with the 40x objective because the working distance is less than the thickness of the acrylic. I rarely use anything above a 10x objective when looking at aquatic organisms, even when using a regular microscope slide. Getting a camera or eyepiece that gives 25x instead of the 10x you currently have will give you plenty of magnification for the full experience. Those high magnification objectives (anything above 40x) require the front element of the objective to be extremely close to the sample, with a working distance of 0.17mm (the thickness of a cover slip). And yes, the HDMI camera will work with the MS 205T. This link has the product variant with the eyepiece adapter, which you need: microsafari.org/collections/shop-all/products/hd-digital-microscopy-camera?variant=43365650727079

Hi! Great product and amazing video esp the one giving your review of digital vs optical microscope. I am a surgeon in a third world country and options such as Medical grade microscopes eg Zeiss, Leica are often times unaffordable though recommended. With this in mind would a digital microscope of good quality provide depth perception as with a traditional eyepiece or is there some economical solution/alternative for that such as a digital image seen on a 3d compatible tv screen with 3d glasses? Or perhaps any other option I am not aware of. Thankyou for your time. Perhaps if this piques your interest you may adress this in a video.

The most common, and least expensive way to get depth perception (which you need stereoscopic vision for) with a microscope is doing it directly via optical means. I don't know what kind of surgeries you are performing, but a widefield stereomicroscope on a rigid boom arm seems like it would be the least expensive route to go. A relatively inexpensive stereomicroscope head ($200ish) will get you 90% of the value as a super expensive stereomicroscope head from a name brand such as Zeiss or Leica. You should spend the majority of your budget on a high quality, rigid, mechanical boom arm. The stability of this boom arm will be the deciding factor on how useful this microscope becomes for your work. Hope this helps!
