They definitely didnt. If you were to make an itty bitty fan the same size as this thing, it would still clear waaaaaayyyyt more air and waaaaaayyy more efficiently. This is good if you dont care about efficiency tho

You can also make every machine dust proof, which is a huge plus. And laptops are known to crank up their fan to almost max if it gets hot. Currently they're focusing on notebooks, and ultra thin notebooks with maximum performance. And I hope they will continue with gaming laptops, and desktops in the future. Would love to have my desktop computer completely silent and dust-proof. And who knows, maybe after a while they will get even better, and consume less energy?

@@Mommotexx yeah, I would hope they can reduce energy looking into material+size/shape resonance, and thickness shaving - but there's probably a quick point of diminishing returns. You also have to think this isn't only a little less power efficient - this is 3-4 times worse (one is 1.5w versus a fan of ~1w, and they wanted 3-4 to put in these laptops. Right now it's noise+filtering benefit and power cost, so you need bigger battery to compensate. I hope these guys do diversify - I think there's areas they are suited to better than fans (no moving parts so underwater?), but this is all about making sure people know what the cost/benefits are.

It’s very early in development so improvements are to be expected. It’s not as simple as saying “airjet uses 1.5 watts, fan uses 1 watts”, since that amount of power use would only be in a heavy use scenario. On most laptops, you can’t expect good battery life while running heavy tasks for a long amount of time anyways, which is why laptop users who run heavy tasks(especially laptop gamers) use their laptop plugged in. @@KashKatana "average" user, reading out what's on the screen and all saying the same things.. And then equating that with Laptop Gamers (a subsection of laptop market). Try not to mix markets and use-cases. Gamers would be fine with bigger laptops - especially since they have to plug them in, bigger screens, etc. So there goes any "thin" requirements. Anyone wanting ultra-thin is generally after mobility - they're after battery life and quietness and not necessarily the highest power usage - so less heat to get rid of. Without seeing the full power profiles and comparisons to fans, all this is guesswork based on the videos Frore have released, but it seems like 2 (possibly 3) airjets Vs 1 fan for comparison - so I'm going to go with 3x power loss (2 airjets) for maybe just about the same as a fan. since heat only comes from a system under load then we assume the highest power requirements from both. In gaming, as you state, power usage isn't much of an issue, but with the extra space for "silent" fans Vs airjets you're really hearing the air moving and the heat would be where air could be trapped heating the area around it (or heatsink isn't losing heat to the air but into the body instead).. so I am unsure in the quality fans Vs airjets who would actually win here. In "normal" laptops, 1w Vs 3w is bigger since the power profile is lower - maybe 20w max under load. Thinner laptops here, smaller screens, people do unplug these and expect ~7 hours usability under middling load. Ultra thin, power usage cuts again - maybe 5-10watts max load? Power is critical due to smaller battery, noise is also critical as well as space. I like the idea of the airjets - I really do. Over time there's no bearing wear, moving the laptop won't add noise due to the spinning fan gyroscope effect, etc.. but using 3x or more power to cool the system is going to impact the market for this product.
