The JRB Hitch Climbing System is a new rope climbing / tree climbing system for Saddle Hunters which does not involve the use of a throwball. It is an alternative to "one stick" climbing which affords zero slack tie in during the entire climb.

I love watching you tree climbers, in climbing and caving everyone thinks there's nothing left to invent or improve, but you guys are creative, that releasable hitch is brilliant

Appreciate that. I don't use a script and although its not perfect, its real. Cheers

It looks so easy when you run it. Its too complicated for me John. I use your system with the garda hitch and I love it.

John, for me , in the woods I hunt; mainly a 20,000 acre WMA in Mississippi, consisting of mature pines and hardwoods, absolutely beautiful forest and deer habitat . I find myself scouting new areas often, and usually the trees I discover in deer active areas are quite tall, out of easy throw ball application, 40 plus feet to the first crotch. But hitch climbing with a pole is absolutely the way to go for me. Really having fun with SRT HITCH POLE CLIMBING. Quiet and reasonably quick with few transitions using a long pole. I have learned a thing or two about setting floating anchors and false crotch, big problems on shaggy bark white oaks, as the preset paracord gets caught in the bark even after attempting to clean off the area where the cord needs to run, so I try to climb slicker bark trees. Also the method demonstrated here with two compact JRB and two foot loops, except using the Maverick hitch on each end is really efficient, with some practice (as you have mentioned) it can be tied in the dark with caution to lock it correctly. I really like this method for scouting and hunting new areas, climbing safely. If it turns out a tree has a good accessible crotch and I can climb past a limb or two and set up in the canopy, it’s easy enough to leave a preset.

Regarding the paracord caught in the bark... do you mean between the ground and the anchor? Or going around the tree inside the floating anchor? Or both? Or something else?

@@jrbtc going around, from through the ring around the tree and back through the ring, the cord hangs really tight under the bark, I would never have imagined that I would be unable to pull the cord through across the tree bark, but that white oak bark is like shingles on a roof with multiple layers and the cord seems to just saw into it and wedge tight. I suppose I could use some lightweight tubing running around the tree and through the ring, the paracord preset running through the tubing Had deer under my saddle , but let the does go….

Excellent video! 2 moves and you were at a reasonable hunting height.

Looks good, liking two tether system using the JRB cinch on smaller telephone pole trees , double JRB stationary ropes on big trees with crotch under 40 ft, JRB srt on big trees with high crotch over 40 foot, .. my 8mm resc tech rope is 80 ft, my next rope will be 120 ft. We’ve got trees of all sizes, and some are huge mature oaks that I want to get up into

I've become a real fan of the Longhorn Agile friction knot, could I use it instead of the JRB ascender?? Would 1" webbing be ok instead of 2" webbing??
@jrbtc
@jrbtc 4 месяца назад
Absolutely can use LAH. Be aware that the JRB Ascender is more compact and that helps in this system when we are trying to maximize the size of each "move". 1" webbing is also fine

how does this compare to the 1 stick saddle hunting method? Time and Noise wise?
@jrbtc

I have only seen one video of a one stick climb that was executed with good slack management and that was a JRB Climber using this system in conjunction with a stick. Remember, most one stick climbers are risking injury because they either tie in too late or are allowing several feet of slack during the climb. I am not saying we can't execute a one stick climb safely, but I find it to be more difficult than this. From a time standpoint, i am able to execute this climb faster than a 1stick, but there's variables. The longer my pole, the less moves and the faster I climb. From a noise standpoint, I don't feel they are appreciably different, but occasionally something will clang on a stick and obviously, that won't happen here. In summary, I simply would urge that however you climb, you are always tied in and have zero or a few inches of Slack.

John - this system uses 3 or 4 jrb ascenders?

You are very imaginative and are able to workout climbing situation problems - so here is the big one that nobody has an answer for. You climb up a rope, regardless of method and you come to a large bow, which you are likely attached to from your Drt. How do you get up over that bow? It would be very hard to try to throw a lanyard around the stem over that bow. Maybe you have an idea, I sure dont.

Steve, sorry for the delay in replying but my notifications seem to be not working properly... Yes, you can absolutely get past that and it's on my to-do list to demonstrate it. It goes like this: Whether you're climbing with an MRS or a doubled rope JRB system, they will get you right under a crotch. Ok, now pull up the one end of your rope: on the end of it, you have it rigged like one side of this system. Form your JRB Cinch on the upper side of the branch, advance it with a pole, transfer to it, climb to it. The tricky part is setting up your retrievable rappel anchor. It can be done in much the same way as this video, but its dependent on the rest of your system. On a JRB Climbing system, its simpler than MRS/ DRT. Want me to demonstrate this?

@@jrbtc Now I can visualize it, as you described it. The Key is how you are able to use the tail of the rope as a 2ndary rope, which is a big breakthrough in climbing. No need for further demo. I got it now..thanks a lot.
