This really does show how much Ricoh listens to it's fan base. It feels like they did this just for long time users, and not to dominate the market.

I think the "x" stands for the system this camera is attacking! An X-E4 + XF 27mm or the X100 series have a huge competitor now!

Can’t comment on the X-E4 and the Ricoh is for sure truly pocketable. However with regards to X100V with a big jacket pocket or small bag I can carry a camera that with an added filter is weather sealed, has a tilt screen, in built flash and a F2 lens.

I am getting it. Despite how 35mm or 28mm focal length is used in documentary or street, I feel like I am more attached to longer lenses such as 50mm or 40mm because I am shy and don’t want to get too close to people. Might be the ultimate digital camera for me for personal photographs.

I don't know what the fuss is all about fixed focal lengths? Or fixed anything! Do we need a certain format to discipline ourselves in becoming a better creator? I get the pocketability since I own an olympus micro 4/3 system. I believe in the freedom to decide whether a scene should be wide/narrow/color/BW. Many options are out there, so the limitations should be my own imaginations, not my gears.

You can safely and confidently use the camera you already have. Why buy a camera that lives collecting dust on the sensor and you have to send it to be cleaned from time to time with the expense and risk that it means.Many of those who present cameras are paid to say nice things. If you want a more compact camera you have more reliable options at Fuji.

I am excited by the 40mm lens announcement. The 28mm FOV is too wide for me. I took the video button and use it to digitally zoom to 35mm with 19mp files. I only use the 28mm FOV when I’m in a crowd such as at a parade or protest march. Two more additions I want but suspect Ricoh will never give me. I want an EVF. The GR is a small camera. Give me a small EVF. You were able to put a flash into the original and II so the must be room for an EVF. Next I’d like some screen articulation. These two additions would make you perfect for me. I love the concept, however the magic of the GR for me is aiming it without looking, with snap focus on 5.6 or so so everything is sharp. Not sure this translates great to 40mm. I love that focal length too but it's more of an X-E3/4 + 27mm thing for me I think. Great to have options though!

For that reason I use and love my Fuji x70, 18mm from 2016 very similar to GR iii but older and not so fast and bad for videos sadly. Love being able to have my camera in pocket or any bad without problems and much bulk. 26mm is so cool, would love to have that too since I was born on 26th June haha ;D my fav number ;)

I had been asking for a GR with 40mm for years on my blog , on the forum everywhere . when Ricoh introduced the GRIII I gave up on it because the GRIII had many let downs compared to the predecessor . The absence of the 4.3 ratio option was a dead end for me as I never shoot in 3.2 with any of my cameras . But now it looks like they are putting the 4.3 option again. so if there is a way to assign function button to back focus , I am back in

@@fellowcitizenI'd love to buy it -not regretting the Ricoh GR III but I'd choose this one instead if i'd have known- and I'm not against this marketing move by Ricoh, because they've listened to the users. If I got to choose I would buy only the 40mm camera because I'm more comfortable with 35mm-50mm focal lenghts. When I chose the Ricoh GR III it was because I wanted a compact camera, point & shoot, to not think about too much, having the best quality in small size & with portability. 2 bodies, even if are smaller, loses this advantages. Either you carry one or the other, either you think in one focal lenght or the other, at least, in my opinion, talking about compact cameras. Maybe carrying both for documentary jobs could work, for environmental portraits, common potrtraits, landscape & tight shots, but still you can be surpassed with 2 mirrorless cameras, with better features & the ability to carry a tlee lens, at least an 85 if action it's long away. For Street photography I don't see myself carrying two bodies, but who knows.

Looks nice. In the market for a GRiii and choosing between 28mm and 40mm for street. To buy two cameras, however, instead of one camera w interchangeable lenses seems a bit strange. The whole idea of portability of a P&S is out the window if you consider packing two cameras only to achieve different focal lengths.. IMHO. Which do you recommend for a non GRiii owner looking for a street companion?
@balboa0621
@balboa0621 3 года назад
If you bought an xe4 with the 18 an 27, it isn’t much cheaper than buying two GRs. It is also more convenient to switch cameras than switching lenses, and the grs are substantially smaller. You lose the evf and tilt screen but gain ibis, pocketablility, and sharper lenses. If you are looking for a larger sensor zoom, the Panasonic lx100ii is your best option, but the grs give you better image quality.
3 года назад
@@balboa0621 Thanks! I hope many GR owners feel the same way. Seems to be amazing cameras. Perhaps I will be convinced to carry two, also, once I get my first... Just seems "double effort" (keeping settings in sync, two batteries kept charged, etc). Which one would you get first? The 28 or 40?
@balboa0621
@balboa0621 3 года назад
@ I would personally get the 40 as 28 is wider than I like to shoot, but that is entirely a matter of personal preference and 40 is more versatile. If you don't know what focal length suits you, maybe a lx100ii would be a better option. I've owned that camera and personally I didn't care for the power zoom or how far the lens barrel extends. Otherwise, it's very capable under iso 1600. Or, an xe3 with the 18-55, if you don't need something pocketable. Samuel Lintaro, the guy in this video, reviewed and owns that combo himself.

As a newbie who has been used it for a year, I have GR3 and another 35 lens camera . Most of the time I sticked with GR3 due to snapping with 28mm is much easier. The subjects always are in frame and have more room to edit or crop. The 35-40 in the other hand, it is good but I have to stare at screen for arranging the subjects or they were oftenly off frame when snapped. Check and see which fov you prefer the most, 28mm may be looks too landscape for some users but some like it. The 40 sometime feel too narrow but you might love it. For me 28mm is my daily. Thanks.
