Oh Thank you! Thank you for this informational video! I have not used the commercial clays, because of the cost. I am finding that my allergy to corn has been growing - one of the major reasons I've not done anything for close to two years time - besides the injuries - and now there is hope... One of the things I have found with cold porcelain - homemade - is that when it is warm and humid, the clay has give to the petals and leaves similar to what they have in nature. However - when it is cold and dry, they become very brittle and will break easily. I found that out taking some of my cold porcelain flowers with me during the winter to see my occupational therapist, to show her what I did and what I wanted to regain hand function to do again...I discovered that the cold (below freezing) made things very brittle and some of my flowers broke in transit. In all truth, I had just gathered them up in a bag to take with me, so they weren't very protected, but the summer before I had had children bending some of the petals and they were like leather - they never broke or chipped or had any damage at all. I don't know if the commercial clays would have the same outcome under the same conditions or not...but something for those of us to consider if we take them out of the workshop during winter months. Blessings!

Always appreciate all your tips! I'd never even thought about the weight of several flowers on a cake! Thank you..look forward to your next video!😘

Exactly! I think some people would be surprised that it wasn't "edible" but it looks like it would last so much longer. I know if it were my wedding cake, I'd rather have something that would last longer than worrying about it being edible. I love the fact that you squeeze the non sugar flowers and they pretty much keep their shape.

I'm usually a mixed media artist but wanted to incorporate some flowers in a piece I'm working on. I'm a step before beginner making flowers but have many years experience with polymer clay. I *thought* 😉 I'd be able to go right to it and create something beautiful, 🤣 huh, no😑, not even worth scrap recycling pile, lol. I was using an unopened cheap air dry clay that I already had on hand. It was sticky and just awful. I realized I need a good clay. Ultimately, hopefully, the finished piece will be a gift for a friend. Hopefully, including beautiful tulips We will see. It may take some many extra months of practice than I planned on. Thank you for your video(s). This is the first one I saw of yours and subscribed I have so much to learn and happy I've found a great teacher I look forward to watching your other videos , learning, and reading comments. I'm open to suggestions if you have any advice to offer. I'd like to invite you to my artist fb page & Instagram if you'd like to see although I've been really bad about posting. I'm trying to get better about that, lol. My name on both is NanCreates. Congratulations on your focal pick! That's fantastic, and no, you're NOT being boastful no matter what you think. You've obviously worked very hard learning and perfecting your skills to reach this professional level of competition so ENJOY YOUR WIN! You earned the right to pat yourself on the back! 🎆 Again, Congratulations!! That's beautiful work by all. 👏 🎉🎈

Thanks for doing this. I lost your talkover when you are making petals with cold porcelain. Do you prefer cold Porcelain or polymer clay? If so, why? Many thanks Christina

Hi Christina. Thank you for the video. I really enjoyed watching it. This is very helpful and informative. May I request for a garden rose/austin rose tutorial for your next tutorial. I noticed that this flower is very popular now. Thank you

Hi, after watching your video I've ordered the air drying clay (polymer clay) from fmm funcraft (soft then strong). Everything is perfect, the only one thing is that this clay is not as white as I need it to be for my flowers even after adding the white acrylic paint it looks ecru. Obviously I can't add to much as it could ruing the clay... Do you have any idea what else to use to make this clay looking proper white? Is the Modena one white enough or does it look ecru too? I would appreciate if you could let me know, whenever you have time, thank you.

Polymer clay is plastic. Essentially microscopic beads of PVC in a plasticizer. By heating it up at the proper temperature for the required amount of time, through the process of gelation, the PVC particles expand and melt together and you obtain a hard plastic. It's not an umbrella term at all. Various brands of polymer clay use different formulas for the plasticizer, that is all the difference. It is very different than cold porcelain. It has been known since the early '70 and the number of people that use it as a creative medium is huge. Congratulations for finding out about it, seeing the beauty of your works in porcelain, I am sure you will do gorgeous things with polymer clay as well. Never heard of Modena, here in the US, and haven't heard of it even when I was living in Europe. The most known brands (that you can easily find in the UK) are Fimo, Cernit, Premo and Souffle by Sculpey, and Pardo. For flowers I would recommend either Cernit or Pardo, they both have a luminous translucency that is very suitable for flowers, Cernit is softer and Pardo is a bit firmer (also uses beeswax in the plasticizer)

I personally use Apoxie sculpt for pretty much everything air dry, but it can get a bit spendy to use on a daily basis. Don't miss on polymer clay though, If you want to see what can be done in terms of flowers, check Rusalina's channel, she's the Goddess of them all. And you might want to get in touch with a lady from the UK who is awesome, she might give you advice on where to find stuff, her channel name is Unruly housewife. I am going to try and see if I can post Rusalina's channel link in a separate reply. If you don't see a reply, go in your "review comments" and check there, usually youtube doesn't let links get by in comments.

And here's another Russian artist who makes flowers from time to time, not as much as Rusalina though ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0Pr-dE2nnFI.html

Ah, and one more thing. I see you were talking about the possibility that the flowers would be too heavy - polymer clay is very very light

You're welcome. I think you should still give it a try. Just grab a package of translucent tinted Cernit and try making a flower. You'll love the results

I've tried Modena and I like it, it's not available here in Canada either. I will have to order it online and give it a try. What does the package look like? Thank you

Polymer clay is almost always baked. It’s made from polymers. You are using AIR DRY COLD PORCELAIN.

I think polymer is umbrella for all from fimo to deco incl. cp , but google algo loves it when you use it , or at least did when CP was less popular than it is now , not sure, tricky
