That’s a bag dedicated to just a single rope though. He put all his gear into the bag with the rope. Rope bags are expensive and when you have minimum 3 ropes to haul around, you better learn to coil. His coil wasn’t clean at all but I’m sure he was rushing and probably does better when he’s not on camera.

Your lifeline should be set with a slingshot and weighted throw line. What good is a lifeline if your already at the top? If your spikes are not set into the tree enough you risk a fast trip to the ground. I use a boom lifts these days just for the safety factor.

European arborist here. You are right that it is often perfered to preset a life line. But it is not always possible. I have been tought when climbing on spurs to have one steel braided flipline and one life line on a adjustable cambiumsaver as a secondary anchor point. if things go wrong i can always go down to the grond by removing my flipline and "rappelling (i use petzl zig zag)" down on my climbing line.
@brandonf60
@brandonf60 4 года назад
The flip line will save you from falling to the bottom. You can't set a life line in every tree from the ground. I gaffed out a week ago with just my flip line around the tree slid about two feet down then stopped. Always use two tie in points while cutting.

Really the only reason to use a steel core lanyard is for 48 dbh trunks where it's harder to advance your lanyard so the stiffness of the steel core helps whipping it up. A pro can just as easily whip his lanyard up by snapping it up side to side. Steel cores give a false sense of security under the delusion of being cut resistant. Also a major problem on steel cores is the rust factor.....really sux when your eye snaps off.

Please get a throw weight and a cube. Watching him spike the tree that wasn't being removed was hard to watch just to set his lines. Holy crap all this safety bs, how the heck do you get any production? Just go up the stupid tree, limb it, and repell down

Its awesome that you're doing tree vids, but when a person starts at a tree company, unless they have years of experience, they still start at the bottom. Don't expect to watch this video and then buy climb gear and get hired at a tree service and be climbing your first day. You'll start as a groundsman, and you typically won't even run a chainsaw for the first month of your career. We do a very dangerous job, and we take training pretty serious, so you will be started as if you know nothing.

Not a good idea to spike a tree that’s not planned to be cut down. Spiking is bad for the tree!

I stopped watching when you were spiking a tree that you werent going to be removing. Not good for the tree.
