Thanks! Apologies for the delayed response (I was out of town). A quick way to convert a excel worksheet into a stata file is by clicking on File > Import > Excel spreadsheet. You can select the options for importing the first row as variable names and select the range of cells that you'd like to import. There's even options for changing the case for the variable names. Once you're done with the import, you can click on File > Save as and then save it as a STATA file using the .dta file extension.
