Introduction to Fire Ground Size-Up 

This lesson is a PowerPoint presentation that defines size-up and its importance to a safe fire ground. The lesson begins with a brief review of strategy, tactics and tasks as discussed in the previous Fire Ground Operation presentation. The lesson defines and reviews five phases of size-up beginning prior to the actual incident and continuing through mitigation and control. The lesson introduces an acronym that is designed to assist the firefighter or commanding officer with conducting an arrival primary size-up of the fire ground. Following the lesson the firefighter participates in several exercises that apply the lessons learned to photographic examples of fire grounds.
