No, both v and w exist in Hindi as व. Native speakers are unable to differentiate between those two sounds and the v or w sound is used based on context and personal preference. Example: व्रत (Vrat) and पकवान (pakWān)

there are 2 unadpirated and aspirated Dd and 2 unaspirated and aspirated Tt ? how can i tell the difference?
@perfectmason690
@perfectmason690 5 лет назад
with practice and with a lot of repetition. to test for aspiration, hold your hand in front of your mouth and see if you feel a burst of air. in english we’re very prone to aspirating letters without trying. our typical K and P sounds are quite aspirated-say “cap” and “pack” and see if you can feel that. also note that our english T and D sounds are more retroflex than dental, meaning they’re closer to ट and ड than to त and द. for the latter two, try placing your tongue directly on the back of your top teeth. then experiment with how much air is coming from your mouth when you say them, and see if you can totally get rid of that air for the unaspirated versions

Yes this difference is tricky for English speakers. They should have mentioned it before hand. You will find "t" t- tin, talk, tell, tomorrow, tame, teach. Please note there is 0 aspiration here. English speakers will be new to this as they unknowingly aspirate each t in the above words. th- This is how English speakers actually sound while saying: talk. They actually aspirate the "t" and end up saying thauk. T- (this is the sound NOT present in English but is in Spanish, Italian etc). The non aspirated version of "th" in : thank, thought, thrive. It sounds similar to words : Danté... Th- aspirated version of T. Imagine saying "Thought" but with an extra force on the T ans H both. d- desk, demon, drop, down dh- Say "Kid Hey" together. Say it fast. The sound that you make between the two words is what this is. D- this is the sound in words: the, then, though, thy, there. DH- Say "the hey" but elemimate the e in 'the'. Don't extend "the" . Say "th-hey" the sound "th-h" is what we are looking for here I know it's tough but listening to hindi words will help

I’d never make fun of someone’s accent to be mean, but when you are *teaching* it is very important to have at least a pretty good grasp on the language you’re teaching in / that of your audience, especially when making sound comparison and claiming that letters are “the same”. Her accent is *very* thick and she pronounces the English letters *very* differently from natives. I love the Hindi accent but this information is just wrong, misleading, and unhelpful.
