This information looks super exciting! I've studied increasing recharge rates resulting from groundwater intake for one river basin in Russia and acquiring pet and et data was really challenging. Looking forward to compare data from my model with the satellite data.

Hi Victor, I'm just working on the next video - hopefully will be ready next week. So far I have had excellent results using MOD16 & CHIRPS for doing a basic water balance, except near the coast where CHIRPS is less effective. Let's see how it works in Russia! All the best, Andreas

hello sir and thank you so much for this video, i need to work with the energy balance models (TSEB, SPARSE,SEBAL) to estimate ET for irrigation scheduling.. Now all of this is so new to me and i don't hv any clue how to do it, i've started with the basics of ET using Modis products and the Fao method, can u plz suggest any videos that explains these models as easy as u did in this video?? THANK YOU AGAIN

@GeosearchInternational 2 года назад
Hi Ikram, Sorry, I haven't used any of the models which you mentioned. From my research MODIS seems to be pretty good for what I use if for, which is river basin water balances. I assume that it would also be good for irrigation scheduling as you get frequent data, and the resolution is pretty good. I have not found any good videos on evapotranspiration, which is why I have made two videos on the subject. Mostly the good information is hidden in the manuals or scientific publications but it takes a lot of reading to find things which are actually useful. I presume that you have seen the next video in this series about how to download the MODIS data? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cUAtYyGI9mI.html Good luck with your research & all the best, Andreas

Hi Rathna, no I'm not going to update the video. The MODIS products will be updated continuously in the future as they improve the algorithm, but the way we can download and process the data should remain the same. All the best, Andreas

@GeosearchInternational, Hello sir, I have a query regarding the evapotranspiration product MOD16A2 As it is showing that the product gives Evapotranspiration (ET) and Potential Evapotranspiration Data (PET) data, what are ET and PET ?
@GeosearchInternational
@GeosearchInternational Год назад
PET is the potential (i.e., maximum possible) evapotranspiration, which is only possible if there is sufficient water available. ET is the actual evapotranspiration - i.e., what has really evaporated. All the best, Andreas
@yuvraj7473
@yuvraj7473 Год назад
@@GeosearchInternational Thank you for the response, based on it can I say PET is reference evapotranspiration and ET is crop evapotranspiration?
@GeosearchInternational
@GeosearchInternational Год назад
Yes I think that is correct, as MODIS follows the Penman-Monteith method to calculate PET, which is the only one recommended by the FAO to calculate the reference evapotranspiration, ETo. As far as I understand PET is an older term which should actually be replaced by reference evapotranspiration. ET is just the actual evapotranspiration that is measured over an area. It will be crop evapotranspiration if your polygon is over a cropped area. If its over a river basin it will include all the actual ET from that area. Just be careful as ET/PET cannot be calculated from non-vegetated areas such as barren deserts and open water. Good luck & all the best, Andreas
