We Are Northampton celebrates the town’s rich heritage and gives visitors from near and far an opportunity to explore Northampton’s character through a sense of identity and place. Enjoy our introductory film
Northampton today is a very run down sad place. But in British history it was a site of important battles, parliaments, ecclesiastical establishments and families, and even an early university that was in the same league as Oxford and Cambridge. All gone, replaced by nail parlours and vape shops. Yet the county outside the town remains rich.
Having recently spent a week in Northampton, the town centre is so different than it was then. The Guildhall has more than a list of mayors at its entrance. No mention of the shoe museum or any shoe manufacturing which much have been booming when this film was made. And the only sports are dog and horse racing? What about the county cricket, rugby and football clubs
We used to go to cricket every w/end and park inside the ground. You could park on the football pitch, have a pork-pie & thermos inr your own deck-chair then sleep on the grass until the game picked up
