I hope it’s okay to ask you something about the inkstone: Some years ago I bought a green Duan stone because I heard excellent things about them. Some people say that you can make ink with these very quickly. But for whatever reason I need much more time than with an inexpensive slate stone. I did remove the wax on its surface so I think that this can’t be the problem. Do you have any idea what I might do wrong? Thanks!
Hi, I understand your problem, and it is an interesting discussion. A good inkstone can inspire and release various ingredients from the inkstick, so you may smell the rich scent and you can see the "oily" appearance once the ink is made. However, this is at the cost of the speed of ink making. A less good inkstone may produce ink rather fast but the details of the ink is all lost. This is why only the balanced kinds are the better choices. I hope this answers your question? Happy inking! ☺

I also have a She stone (which I bought for a harder ink stick actually) that is already a bit quicker than the Duan stone. Should I rather use the She stone? I asked because I thought it was my mistake.
@@ZengHuaXiansheng You are correct! I believe both are excellent, but I personally prefer Duan. If you are in need of a large quantity of ink for calligraphy practice for instance, I think the She is great. Otherwise, I would enjoy the full experience of Duan more 🙂
