OMG sociology is about LIFE. It is life lessons I have always looked for. It gives me purpose more than any religion. I should have learned sociology 25 years ago. Thank you Prof Harvey. You are my hero.
26:58 haha thats actually not true at all. that would mean the average american eats FOUR POUNDS OF MEAT PER DAY. no one is eating that much meat!! most americans probably average a bit under one pound a day.
This course has nothing to do with sociology... this lecture he's filling out the portions of the progressive political platform that can't be disguised under a heading that might sound like sociology. Skreeds about eating meat, recycling, and yet more anti-capitalist sentiment. And of course anti-Republican and industries that support them. Did you know that the energy industry is mostly responsible for global warming? If it wasnt' for corporate collusion intervening on behalf of autos and oil, we could all be using steam engines instead. I guess the coal that steam engines burn is cleaner than oil now. Take that, high school chemistry! I also had no idea that the average American eats 4lbs of meat a day. (I'm not exaggerating. These are just a couple of his silly claims.) Don't get me wrong. If you want to be progressive, have at it. It takes all kinds. But don't pay these yahoos tens of thousands to give your kids an "education" that can be had for free with a steady diet of cable news.
A measured response: First of all, it has to do with sociology. He connects (for an example) the child mortality with illiteracy. Also he gives very useful information that we can use to make our own sociological theories. Secondly, are you saying that we whould have made coal burning cars instead at doing what we always did, expand the already existing technology (trains) efficiently and improve it too? If that happened probably we wouldn't have made that meny carbon emissions. This video got recorded at 2011. Did you fact check if that claim about the meat was true back then? As for your last claim, not everyone can learn sociology (or any topic for that mater) of the internet, nor can the majority get a degree of the internet.
