Introduction to the DA40 Diamond Star - Walkaround/Preflight

The DA40 will be one of the aircraft available in their new Microsoft Flight Simulator. For aviation enthusiasts interested in knowing a little more about the real aircraft, I show a quick walk-around and preflight for the aircraft.
The DA40 aircraft shown in this video is the 2007 XL version, the Lycoming variant, that differs from the Diamond DA40 NG and DA40-TDI in a few ways, predominantly that the engine is 100LL vs. Jet-A, and that it has the original G1000 vs. G1000 NXi flight deck.
Note: This is my first attempt at an aviation RU-vid video, and I made a couple of small misstatements in the video, so please be kind.
I'm happy to answer any of your questions about the DA40 in the comments.

Would you do more videos of this nature for things like pattern work, approaches, to/landing? Love the detail as a Bay Area student flying some Lycoming DA40s.

On the sim we have the da40 ng that is fitted with ECUs, so we just have 1 throttle, and ECUs are doing all the job :D

Yes, I’ve been to KCRQ (Palomar). Great Airport. Funny story: When I took delivery of N556LU in Leesburg we flew it across the United States to California. Carlsbad was the first California airport we landed at. It’s slightly unbelievable, but we flew across the whole country VFR, right until we got to the west coast and I had to ask for an instrument clearance (in California!) in order to break through a small fog layer hovering over Palomar. Then we needed an IFR flightplan to go through weather in the Bay Area to make it to Santa Rosa (KSTS).

amazing video, i had a question, whats the small indentation on the wings leading edge at 5:51 ? to the right side of the Landing/Taxi lights?

Thanks. Are you asking about the pointy protrusion that's on the leading edge to the left of the lights (looking towards the leading edge)? I have a guess, but let me check with the DAN board and get back to you.

No no. Not those. At 6:01 if you look 2-3 inches to the right of the landing lights (towards the fuselage) there’s a weird pointy thing directly on the leading edge. What is that?

Any chance you could do a short video showing your preferred power settings for this aircraft various stages of flight. I am flying this aircraft in the real world and would like to be more proficient at it

I know you sent this a year ago, however if youre still wondering, the POH has a fantastic chart for best power settings for Best Power and Best Econ. :)

@@OriensFlight Hi Hans. Good to hear from you. I'm still training and trying to get up to my check ride. Thanks for reaching out. I've been training in the DA40 but my IP made training stressful; so, I've decided to find a new IP. I found one but they are on a different aircraft. I'm facing a dilemma; either, stick with the stressful IP and continue on the DA 40 or start all over again on a new aircraft at step one. What do you recommend?
