Hello everyone! Oscillator demos are always hard, as different people like different things. I tried to cover all interests. The chapter 'Basic patches' contains mostly dry and clean audio demos with a lot of knob tweaking. The chapter 'Advanced patches' has ideas for music setups with effects. All the best!

If anyone is on the fence about this one, get it. It sounds incredible and is so easy to get great sounds from even without a lot of modulation. But if you do have a Batumi or Zadar it really comes alive. One of my favorite analog oscillators, it’s exceeded my expectations.

@11:22 wtf this sounds like every friggin type of synthesis at once (Except for maybe additive) I hear subtractive, hard sync, pulsar, FM and AM and maybe some ring mod ish tones all at the same time. This really is something new and special
@MonotrailTechTalk

Haha, yeah that sounds about right. Lots of subtle tones and variations in there :)

Great demo, I understand the module much better now and I think you've made it sound better than the other examples I've seen.

Glad to hear the video helped out! Think there aren't to much demos out yet. But tbh I'm quite curious to hear what other people will do with this! I mentioned in the end I like to get the dark and gritty side of things. But I'm pretty sure you can get nice results when aiming for the oscillator to be higher pitched and bright. Will explore it myself as well if I can find the time! All the best :)

Loved your demos. Those formant sounds about halfway through were especially interesting, all without a filter. Im really getting interested in this oscillator. Thank you for your hard work making this video!

@@MonotrailTechTalk I'm watching this again and I wanted to point out, at around 17:30 there is a sound that repeats about every 5 seconds, it's like an elephant breathing out. :) Does that also come from Sofia?
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Год назад
@@Chinpira001 I think I know what you mean, and then no. At the start of that clip you can see the modulation going into sofia in the two sliders on the left side. At the point in the video you mention I added the note ' now adding the reverb', but in truth I add the dry signal into the reverb at that point. I didn't realize when recording that the clock division modulating the pre-delay was already audible, even without a signal input for the reverb. This modulation is happening at half the speed Sofia is receive a pluck, and causing the light airy breathing sound.
@Chinpira001

@@MonotrailTechTalk Thanks for clarifying. I somehow really like that sound there, funny that it results out of something you were planning differently 🙂

Wow, this sounds amazing. I haven't wanted a new module in a long time, but this sounds great fun and so diverse in sound. It will give the new XPO a run for its money! Different of course, but similar enough many might go one or the other

@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Год назад
Glad you like it! Would have to listen more to the XPO to make a comparison sound-wise, but they have a different approach for sure. But think you're right in general, I don't feel the need for more complex oscillators at the moment, think they would compete for the same spot :)

Just got Odessa and I am so in love.. never got warm with my Belgrad since I had it.. now its a match, and I guess XAOC is my new favorite module brand. It just hits the sweetspot for me out of classical synth architecture and new innovative design, it has it all. I make psytrance and Odessa is so psy its unbelievable, and more and more I discover the other XAOC modules I just want a rack full of their stuff, its soooo fitting to my style of sound design.

OMG this is amazing! It sounds like FM, a resonant filter, and a buchla complex generator all genetically spliced together Edit @ around 7:40, it sounds like there's a friggin monster stuck in that sound trying to get out!
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Год назад
Glad you liked it! Indeed, there's a lot of great sounds in there that remind of a combination of modules. Filter, distortion, noise, resonance, fm. Actually feel like I'm just scratching the surface with this one, and pretty sure I will find more sounds hiding over the next months :)

I like your content very much! One question. Do you make any mastering of your modular records, or is it "clean"? Thanks an keep on going!!!
@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk 8 месяцев назад
Glad to hear it, thanks! It's basically clean, on purpose. I want people to hear how something sounds out of the box, no complex EQ, compression etc. I only have 3 things permanently turned on on my output: a very subtle EQ boost around 4k/2k, a gain, and a hard limiter. The last one is just to make sure no weird peaks clip, because I mostly keep my recordings around -6db. Im not making it as loud as possible at all, and want the volume to sit comfortable next to a regular voice.

@MonotrailTechTalk
@MonotrailTechTalk Год назад
Yes! It's really weird looking at the scope when building up complex sounds on Sofia, it's really the reverse of what happens when you close a resonant filter :) So with some modulation building complexity, you get very similar effects.

@@MonotrailTechTalk I agree half with you. The sound is most important but I also think an instrument is more than its sound. How something looks or how you play with it, which parameters are presented to you also ads up to enjoying playing with it. For me a vintage MS-20 feels different then a newer mini or software.
