Might just be me on this. I like to shave late at night after dinner. Then when I'm done I go out side to smoke especially in the winter. Such a relaxing experience.
I just got back into wet shaving after using a Panasonic electric for many years. I'm using a Merkur 24c DE razor. Such a difference from my electric. Your videos are excellent and have helped me learn technique. Thanks so much.
I'm glad there are videos like this that show how to actually shave properly. My dad never taught me to shave since he has a full beard and my mom tried to teach me, but yeah. lol
im 16, any tips for me? i am at that state where i should be shaving, but my mom wont let me. i can only manage one electric shave once every 4-7 days. [ i cut myself last night, so i need help ] any tips, please!
hi im a little confused... ive always shaved with the grain but for like half a year i started to shave against the grain just cause i seemed to get a closer shave (mostly cause i havent replaced my blade for atleast a year). i dont recall ever getting cut or having any problems except maybe some burn. im getting the impression that some people have much more sensitive faces than others cause i dont have any trouble going one shave through against the grain.
Hey mantic, I was wondering if it matters which side of your face you shave first, and if it affects the thickness of hair on that part of your face. I always shave the right side of my face first, but i'm noticing that the hair on that side is thicker(upper cheek) than the left side. You think it's just the way my facial hair grows? Or should I alternate which side of the face I shave? Thanks mantic :)
Shaving won't make it grow faster. It'll grow in thicker, but not faster. I didn't start shaving until I was 15 to get rid of that middle school mustache that we all hate. Even if you shave regularly, you might not even be ready to grow a real beard until you're in your early 20s. It's different for everybody. I'm 18 and my side burns can grow fully as well as chin, but my upper lip grows slowly and the cheeks are patchy so I shave that.
He does 3 passes, but if you notice, he only strokes the same area once per pass. I've been using a Mach3 for a few months now and I am very displeased with it. I find I sometimes have to resort to making 5-6strokes on the same spot and even sometimes shave against the grain on the same spot numerous times. It's because I am not prepping my face correctly and using the proper technique. Mantic56 knows what he's talking about. His RU-vid channel is devoted to this shaving method.
allnamesaretaken4- you just wouldn't understand kid.....shaving is a man tradition and one of the most ritualistic things we men do. It deserves attention to detail. Mantic does a fantastic job at making people realize how great a close, enjoyable shave can be. So, with that said, grow a pair, and maybe you'll understand.
Lol wicked channel I want to start shaving but my dad never yet frikken taught me! I sometimes use his shaver to slicken up my face. Today I put some weird shaving cream WITHOUT WATER (Mistake I think?) rubbed it all over and shaved LOL I whiped all the crap off and put lotion on my face instead of after shave. Am I in danger?! LOL
Hey Mantic, I have a smaaalll problem and wonder if you can help. I can get every single hair accept the tiiiiny hairs on my side burns and the hairs on the base of my neck. I try to go against grain on both but just can't quite get completley close. Thanks for any help.
Yeah, same here. Im 18 and my beard is quite thick (probably having something to with my turkish genes), yet the cheek areas are patchy. As for SemphasNecros: waiting is the only solution. the full beardgrowing experience is somewhere in the 20s (for most people).
Electric shavers suck ass. i use a gilette Fusion razor, without the stupid vibration, and a foaming gel for everyday shaves, and a bar soap with a brush for those special evenings. applying some moisturizing cream before the whole thing works even better. Thank you for this clear instructional video!
Final note: wet shaving for retirees. If you actually have to go to work sometime in the morning and can't afford to spend 30 minutes a day just to get your beaver bristle all white and nice with lather, you wil learn to shave quicker and with very acceptable results.
Although you're right that facial hair will not get thicker as you shave often, please don't compare a beard or any other body hair with head hair. Persons with more testosterone have more body hair but less head hair. Right answer, but wrong analogy.
absolutly outsanding stuff!! i keep my beard profiled most of the time but i think ill apply some of ur methods to my shaving routine ... plus i can ask my grandad for some advices. he is actually still shaving in old good wetshaving style. :)
I would say dry shaving is the other way. You know, like with an electric razor. I can see why someone wouldn't think of that though. It's because real men don't use electric razors. At least that's my opinion. They never worked that well for me.
With a quality shaving cream/soap it will give you the protection you need to do 3 shaves. Shaving with a safety razor takes more then 1 shave. With each shave you are reducing the hair. Not trying to hack it off with 1 sweep.
hey mantic u give great advice on shavin and i thank u for it but y not shave it all at once i kno u say to reduce it untill its gone but wouldn't it be more convenient if it were done one time
"procede to your after shave regiment" lol This video didn't teach me much besides the importance of good products. What he calls 'wet shaving' I just call shaving. What other way is there?!
what kind of razor is that you are using in this video. i have been using a Mekur DE razor but its not working out. i wanna try what ever it is u have in this video. lemme know?
Probably the most random question related to this video so far, but where did you get those diagrams of the face from? thought it would be a simple google image search but it seems not.
Hi,i'm not english so i don't understand everything he said in this video... Could anyone write what he say from 0.45 to 1.20.Then i'll translate by myeself.Thank you!
i did two passes yesterday using shave soap and my boar brush, but today i broke out with the worst razor bumps under my chin and neck area. any idea on how to prevent this?
While learning how to wet shave expect razor burn. Alcohol is going to sting the crap out of you. At least try and find a product with the least amount of alcohol.
hey mantic im 15 years old and ive been growing hair in all of my face spots, however they are only a few, what would u recommend me to do in order to grow my beard faster and hairier??? my barber recommends shaving really often so i do it every 2 days, is this harming my skin or is it dangerous in some way?
although I plan on getting some new cream and a brush soon, at the moment I'm using a gilette fusion and barbasol shaving cream and I do 4 passes with excellent results. the thing is I have very sensitive skin and very dry skin, so it really isn't that bad if you don't apply too much pressure like most people do.
Excellent video, great advice. About to try this new method. I often get bad ingrown hairs and tried many shave creams. I am just switching to a shave soap and new brush so hopefully combination of the lot will sort me out. Thanks from England
mantic59, small question: what do you feel about "The body shop"`s maca root shave cream? I`m asking this since it is the only one i could get beside the comercial (like nivea, etc) product
Hey, I've gotta say, great series of vids. I'm glad there are still people out there who know what they are doing and can educate others. I have one question though: won't so many passes over the face wipe away all the facial oils and badly dehydrate the skin? For me it's bad enough with just 1 or 2...
Thanks for the video. now I know why I always had rough face even after couple of passes and always by evening there was stubble. couple of questions: I get these small bumpy things on my neck area that looks gross on close inspection. why is that and how can I reduce it. Also I have heard that shaving against grain can make the hair grow inwards.
Nice three part series. Earlier today I finally used my new safety razor. I enjoyed the experience so much that I will never buy another cartridge razor again.
I will never get this technique down. First shave ever with a Edwin Jagger DE89L with proraso cream and badger hair brush, derby blades and i looked like Captain Redbeard for my job interview, needless to say i did not get it ;9
Thanks for the videos Mantic! I have a quick question, I notice you rinse with cold water after the first pass and with warm water after the 2nd and 3rd passes. I was always under the impression that you should always rinse with cold water while shaving. Is there something I am missing? Thanks again!
You might also want to try a new blade, lighter touch, skipping the across strokes and just doing to passes with and against the grain. Real good lather is vital since the mach3 is designed to work with their gel lather, which provides a much more easily attainable smooth shave. You really need to pay attention when using proper lather. Also you might want to try a pre-shave oil, the Art of Shaving has one that's particularly good. :)
Whoo-- this feels GREAT. I just did my first wet shave, and my face feels like a million bucks. One word of advice to all newcomers like me: FOLLOW HIS ADVICE AND DO NOT HACK. I confess I did a little hacking (instead of doing it in passes, I tried to re-do my neck before lathering up again), and shed some blood. No worries, though, I have a good after shave which sealed things up (didn't even have to use my styptic pencil). Thanks for making these vids, Mantic59. Keep 'em coming.
@muzeitgeist I just started using Nivea aftershave balm (for sensitive skin as mine is super sensitive) and it works great! The smell isn't overpowering either.
Over the past week, Ive watched all of your videos, probably 3 times each :) I finally just broke down and ordered a safety razor, brush, shave cream, aftershave and the whole bit. I cant wait for it to arrive! I will be extremely happy if my shaving experience is half as good as your videos. Im sitting here right now with crazy razor burn from my shave this morning. The hair on my lower neck is so crazy that no matter WHAT direction I shave in, its always against the grain :(
I'm not trying to be rude, but I genuinely want to know... Are all the marks on your face from razor cuts and razor damage or are they birthmarks or something?
thanks for posting these great shaving vidoes! im turning 15 in september and i learned that i need to shave and i found these videos very helpful! thank you!
Hello Mantic - I have watched many of your videos - and have followed your isntruction. I tried my first proper wet shave on Friday, and today, my skin still burns. I bought a badger hair brush, the best shaving cream, brand new pack of blades, and Merkur. I finished by using an alum bloc. The first day was ok, the next two days it was burning like hell, and today its still pretty soar. I spent 10 mins in the hot shower, lathered up correctly etc Are some people just not able to wet shave?
