This is why I love watching your channel. You guys are always willing to improvise and bring hilarious content. Seriously laughed my butt off at the shooting star.
Haha loved the shooting star decor! Props to your neighbors for giving you something to look at 😂 that is very beginner friendly and it looked super cozy! Def helped that you brought so many blankies 👍 I had never thought about the warm water bottle idea but it makes a tone of sense! Thanks for sharing!
the shooting star decor is REALLY cool! the best part is that Andy has totally seen the decor but fell for it any ways! 🤣🤣🤣. we definitely brought enough blankets to this one. We'll see how we can manage this for camping in other areas. The water bottle trick is awesome. it keeps you super warm during the night. totally recommended if you get cold easy!
hahaha this is gold, there's so many blankets in the tent. Having a vestibule on your tent in snow camping is great as it allows you to open the tent without getting smashed by the weather. You're right about ventilation and especially when picking a new tent, I always look for ventilation points at the highest points possible to allow the hot air out without creating icicles. The main differences with the 4 season is in the build. They are built to withstand crazy weather and for the most part they are low and strong, which also keeps the warmth in too. Another tip for you when you get to the cooking stage. If you opt to use gas, keep the gas in your sleeping bag overnight so it will work efficiently for your morning coffee 😜
omg! thanks for that great break down! I guess this is the reason why we didn't get any icicles or ice build up.... the whole top is mesh! you're absolutely right about the vestibule. it's also a great way of keeping the weather out of your shoes. Our tent doesn't have that... so the next one MUST! Thanks for the tip on the gas. for our next step, we'll be bringing a car. so it won't be as bad. but if we get to some back country camping this year, this will be a LIFE SAVER! we dont' operate too well without our morning coffee haha.
I tried winter camping back in junior high - I was part of the 4-H Outdoor Education Club and we camped in a snow-covered gully in thick tents with hay on the floor. We packed snow all around the sides of the tent on the outside, to insulate it, and then layed blankets over the hay to act as a floor insulator. It was actually quite warm inside.
hahaha. Yes. the great white north DOES get cold. however, we do try to pick weekends that's a bit more 'mild'... around 30F is not too bad if you wrap yourself up!
What is Andy doing barefoot in the snow?! I'm pretty sure my toes would freeze and fall off within 5 seconds if I did that! Glad the first trial was a success, and looking forward to the rest of the series!
oh yeah... he does that. the guy runs really hot so he doesn't get too cold most of the time. We're excited for the rest of the series... provided that Andy's sleeping pad doens't deflate again!
Hi friends. Another lockdown? Oh my. Glad you are able to still get outside. We've set up the tent in our back yard for our girls. They had a blast. We haven't tried it in winter yet though. We may have to give your tips a try. We have some videos you would enjoy. Come check them out when you get a chance.
Awesome video, what a great way to try out winter camping with an easy escape if you get too cold! I’m wondering, what kind of foam pad is it that you used at the bottom of the tent (the purple one)? Do you normally take it camping?
Thanks! We only take those mats for front country/car camping and just in the cooler months (spring, fall, winter). Those are actually 1-inch thick yoga mats....we chose them over camping branded thermal mats because they were cheaper back when we bought them and are pretty much the same thing. You can find them on Amazon or at Walmart.
