Speaker: Thomas Tam
Hsuan Tsang, the famous Chinese monk from the Tang dynasty, traveled from China to India to learn Yogacara Buddhism. He crossed deserts, mountains, rivers and spent eighteen years before his triumphant return to his country and began the daunting task of translating the sutras and commentaries that he brought back. One of the most important exposition, "Vijnaptimatratasiddhi-Trimsika", was written by Vasubandhu who, together with his brother, Asanga, established and developed the teachings of Yogacara Buddhism.

Reb Anderson wrote a book called "The Third Turning of the Wheel" that discusses the Samdinirmochana Sutra, which was the source of the ideas of Yogacara Buddhism. Thich Nhat Hahn's book "Understanding Our Mind" is also really good.

The example of the "Flow of Life" was superbly done. Also, the reading list contained Lusthaus' "Buddhist Phenomenology," which is a a very important work in contemporary philosophy. The connections between Husserl (specifically) and the Yogacara tradition, are incredibly rich.
