In this mixed media art demo, I'll be creating intuitive art using recycled materials and transforming discarded items into an engaging piece of artwork. We’ll explore recycled art ideas with used elements and found objects and breathe new life into mixed media collage.
I'm excited to share how a simple sugar bag and a touch of acrylic paint can be upcycled into homemade collage paper, setting the foundation for the artwork. Throughout the video, I'll guide you through the step-by-step process of using our imagination and intuition to turn this repurposed material into the centerpiece for our recycled art.

In this project, I'll add depth and texture using netting from fruit packaging, proving that even the most unconventional items can play a crucial role in mixed media collage art. I'll use acrylic gel medium, a versatile medium to help seamlessly integrate diverse materials into a cohesive piece.
Creating intuitive art using recycled materials is good for both seasoned artists and beginners. This type of mixed media art can be a great way to use recycled items and materials on their way to the landfill.

I'm always on the lookout for things that have the potential to be something else. I love found objects and other bits and bobs because most things have more than one purpose if you look closely. I also try to reuse or upcycle because I don't have a lot of money to spend on pricey supplies. I often have to just make do with what I've got. Plus, it's a fun challenge to incorporate something I found in the "trash" (or any other place I happen to wander) into something that makes people stop and take a second look. Loving your work, Chris. For once, the algo sent me something good!

Great piece and so fun. I like to use as creative materials things already around the house or barn. For example, wood shavings from a sailboat in the barn became hair for a mixed media sheep. Salmon bones are eyelashes. Pine needles are goat's beard. My housemate is teaching me to make frames using his miter saw, and of course, I just love old painted and chippy wood or barnwood planks. Also, collected things for future art- cat whiskers, sheepskin rug ringlets, old fringy fabric edges.... Next I'd like to press some flowers and also make handmade paper. It is sooooo fun playing with imagination! Thanks again for your inspiration, Chris.

Oh my goodness! Your technique for the boat was very urban sketch! I do tutorials from Toby Loose sketch, and your boats were in that wonderful style. I loved seeing both the abstract, free, eccentric feel of the art, combined with the wonderful urban/sketch you chose for the boats. I will definitely be trying this! Thanks for showing this.

Hi Chris! Very cool pic! Love that red netting and those little boats were perfect! I love how pictures just flow from the hands of artists like yourself. Thanks for sharing and for the ideas you always give. I have troubles in that I love abstract art but I also am a sanguine personality with a strong black and white streak. So I end up doing abstract things and then adding details that are small and zentangle like. Yikes! I don't know WHAT I am!🤪😂😂❤️

Hey BM! It's so easy to overpaint/create, I do it quite often. I always have to remind myself to slow down and look at each piece. Easier said than done.😊

Nicely done!! The closest I've gotten so far is to use as much of the wrapping paper from shipping as I can (e.g., Amazon) as collage paper either through deliberate approach or as a roll-off sheet during gel plate work.
