tfw in quarantine and bored,, anyway I hope you enjoy this little animatic I made hhhh whups my tumblr - / shandzii Song - Nothing Left to Lose (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures) Invader Zim belongs to Jhonen Vasquez
In an unfinished episode, Dib got Zim's PAK attatched to his chest and over the almost 10 minutes of Zim's life clock, he slowly became more and more like Zim. How fast was the corruption when it was attatched to the back of his head?
@@crystalgemgirl731 And why did this "Zib" not die when it happened? I thought in the story it said that the PAK would bore through his organs if he had it on too long?? So wouldn't the PAK drill into his brain killing him? Or did it attatch to his brain?? And why did Zib choose the head and not the back like how Zim had it? AhHAhAH sooo many questionsssss @^@ AND ALSO!!! That PAK has all of Zim in it! I never read the comics, (But totally want to!) wouldn't Zib become Zim? In "10 minutes till' DOOM" Dib not only slowly transforms, he starts becoming Zim, which is another reason why he wanted the PAK off of him. So wouldn't he be Zim and have no Dib in him at all?! Agh no one will be able to answer this but the creator himself ;-;
Underrated moment, but I really love how Zim makes his entrance as the music builds to a crescendo. Solidifying him as the "Ultimate Zim" and the absolute wild card hurricane neither Dib accounted for.
The Ultimate Zim and by extension Ultimate Dib. The one thing no Dib or Zim from another Universe could understand was Dib and Zim working together and our Zim was too determined to beat the number 1 unlike the others. The other Zim’s were concerned about where they stacked up to the others were as our Zim just wanted to be better than everyone else. Out of all the universes present none could predict the drive and determination those two versions had.
Zib as a character is tragic as hell now that I think about it... Dib and Zim are basically tied together and defeating the other kinda leaves one of them feeling worthless (confirmed in a cancelled episode, Mopiness of Doom). Zib not only *killed* Zim, his purpose given form, by taking his PAK, but he ended up purging his whole universe. Meaning he also killed the people he cared about, Gaz, Dr. Membrane, everything and everyone. I think the worst part is that, all this happened because people decided to close their eyes to what was directly in front of them, and that they also bullied a kid looking for someone to at least play along with this. It's scary how easily Dib could've become Zib. Spoilers for the Zimvoid arc: When Zib is defeated, he's left in nothing but pure darkness and nothing else. Just an endless void with nothing, defeated by an enemy he's worked for so long to beat only to be beaten again (aka Zim). Let it sink in, all this happens to a12 YEAR OLD.
SPOILERS (And yes this entire arc is canon. It’s in the IZ comic series) This is going to be a long explanation for those who can’t read the comic so bear with me... For those that don’t know what this arc is about but can’t afford to read, it’s about Zim, Dib and Gir going into a vortex portal that leads them into a void where a planet is filled with Zims, each of them from alternate timeline and can’t find their way out of the void. They each have ranking numbers and the highest ranking Zim is the one leading a hierarchical society, calling him by Number one. It soon after turns out that Number one is a mixed version of a Dib and Zim, nicknamed Zib (he hates being called that). In his timeline, Zib (originally Dib) defeated his Zim, but nobody took his accomplishment or his proof of aliens seriously. Hurt by this, he decided to put on Zim’s PAK in order to conquer the Earth, thinking that he is saving it by doing so (this is complete mix of Zim and Dib’s ideal but at a full threat level). He then makes a device in order to destroy the Irken Armada entirely, but the device destroyed his entire universe instead, leaving only the planet he is in and the device he made, soon after being called the Zapper. Once he realized he had the ability to lure Zims in from different timelines, he made a plan to brainwash them with his PAK virus so a Zim can spread it to their Irken Armada and Zib would be able to conquer Earths from a different timeline, however at a VERY high risk of destroying their universe as well. What’s happening here is that Zib wants to try this first attempt on our main characters’ timeline and Dib, along with the Zims that just found out about Number one’s true identity, are trying to stop him. However, OUR Zim and Gir messed with the Zapper that cause to both merge the Zims’ timelines with his, along with eliminating other alternate timelines by destroying the device. This is why we see a baby Zim (Nicknamed 2K)who makes a quick cameo in the animatic, dissipate all of a sudden, with the camera moving to Zim looking prideful. It is because Zim made Gir go to each of the Zim’s timeline and altered a crucial part in their timeline that made them altered versions of himself. This resulted in them sharing the same exact timeline as Zim. May not make logical sense but again, this Invader Zim. They love saying “screw time traveling logic”. (This was also the saddest part of the arc for me because I really loved the alternate Zims) Zib is last seen stuck possibly forever in the now empty planet, saying “You can’t just leave me here all-“, and in the next panel, everything is black. Now we can all assume his timeline got destroyed as a result of the Zapper’s destruction, practically killing him. Though there are different stories. Basically....Zimvoid arc is detailed. VERY detailed. If you REALLY want to know everything about the world of the Zimvoid, the characters and how the society functions, reading the arc (issues 46-49) would be the best option. Otherwise, explaining it here would just take FOREVER to type out. So yeah. Hopefully it makes you understand the video a little better. UPDATE: 2K likes WTF- .....heheh...2K likes the comment. Bad pun? ok.
Zibs story was so sad :( You have to remember that he WAS all alone. He defeated zim, his only purpose and didn’t even receive the validation he wanted. Them, he destroyed the world, Gaz and Professor included. It’s even worse when you remember that he’s just a twelve year old. The one panel with the ‘ well I did, and nobody cared. ‘ just hurts my heart. It’s so scary how easily Dib could have become Zib
ok, your sound usage is incredibly, like the sharpening of Cassandra's sword being turned into a spark of the machine, to Zib pulling the controlls back coming from the black rocks shinging up to trap Varian, that is all very clever usage of environmental sounds
@@iam878 Actually, in the show Dib only comments about Zim's lack of ears, from which I infer he does have some... sort of nose? Voldermort nose? Or he just focused on the ears, IDK.
@@cawareyoudoin7379 I'd assume that if zim does have a nose most of the cartilage in zibs nose ended up deteriorating and he still technically has one but it's not very defined.
This whole thing is choreographed perfectly, but I want to give special note to the use of Pak legs as limb extensions. You draw them really well and how they emphasize his emotions is done GREAT. They looks so alien and sell just what he's done to himself and how far he's slipped. The song fits so well and I've probably watched this like five times already.
I wonder if it can be found online anywhere...? Seriously though, he attached the pak to his HEAD?!? Even Zim had it on his back, the actual (to me) sensible place.
I think the reason the Pak kills non-irkens has to do with the fact that it sends conflicting signals down the spinal cord causing organs to not work properly. However, since humans and irkens seem to be fairly similar when it comes to their nervous system, when zib attached it to the back of his head it managed to synchronize with his nervous system properly, because instead of acting as a second brain it simply acted as an extension of the brain.
Absolutely. A Dib and a Zim in one body is deadly. In addition to Dib being so demented that the ideology of both of them convinces him to conquer world's in order to save them. With Zim's intelligence and Dib's supernatural knowledge he can create things no one in the universe has seen but Zim's incompetence makes everything he does a failure on an explosive level.
@@tuckinatorinator787 actually we do not how that universes Zim was all we know is that Dib actually won against the Irken invader. But, either way it's a destructive combination
Why is this best animatic: 1) A lot of attention is paid to details, really a lot of details! For example Zib attached a patch at 0:56 At first I didn't notice this) 2) The style is neat, the picture is clear and it is very nice to look at it. 3) Incredible scene transitions. Like 2:02 or 0:38 some scenes are the whole animation 4) Cool song, and cool ZimVoid comic. 5)This inspiring me a lot I’m reviewing this already about 7 times, it’s a very cool work, it’s a pity that there are few views:"c (Also sorry for wrong English. I used translator)
Yeah I noticed the patch too. It actually gives a great detail that Zib didn't turn into what we see him now. Each of the few frames we see after he puts on the PAK on is the time that passes as he transforms. First Frame: Zib puts the Pak on the back of his head 0:54 Second frame: We now see that the PAK is now attached to some wires, indicating that Zib is possibly trying to make updates on the device. It gives a good throwback to when Zib stated how he was able to "master Irken tech". We also see that Zib is not looking too good. His hair is unkempt, bags start to form on his eyes, and he is starting to show some signs of the transformation beginning, as shown by his fingers getting pointier. Theres a likely chance Zib started to notice this change with the way he is looking at his pointy hands, but never bothered trying to reverse these new symptoms. This may likely be because his mentality starts to shift to more of Zim's personality as well. Third Frame: Zib's mentality begins to decline even more as the transformation becomes more noticeable. He JUST lost his ears and nose (as seen by the bloody patch on him) His second antennae strand starts to grow out, veins start to become visible at the back of his head. Fourth Frame: Zib's transformation of his appearance is complete. At this point, his mentality is far too gone to fight back for. Fifth frame: full transformation is complete. He is now the complete combination of both him and his enemy and has full control of his power.
THIS... THIS IS THE BEST. Hoooly moly, the visuals, the song, it's so fitting, so... Deliciously dramatic! Wonderful job on this animatic, I'm simply amazed!
The transitions for Zib's back story were timed SO well, your compositions were 👏👏👏👏♥️♥️💜💜💜 the clean linework?? I'm blessed??? This is fantastic. I'm so excited to see more of your work in the future! Edit: I keep playing 2:05-2:12 over and over, that was basically animation. Wh. Jfkghfd. So extra ♥️
My favorite parts The transition at 0:37 When he cries at 0:51 When the pack deforms his ears at 0:56 I just like the frame at 1:15 The jump that Dib does 1:35 as he is caught by the arms I like the shot at 2:01 it’s just so cool The zoom in at 2:06 omg it’s so good Overall this animation is amazing and I can’t stop watching it and I love it and it’s so goddam smooth and I want to show it to my big brother cause they are into IZ but I can’t cause they haven’t caught up on Tangled the Series and I don’t want them to hear the song yet till they are
Sonic Z TH That would probably confuse people, mostly because most IZ fans don’t read or even know about the comics. However, I do hope they bring him back in the comics.
ComicPear and Friends Maybe if they adapt this Zim-void arc into animation (either as part of a continuation of the series if Nick is interested in continuing Zim on Netflix or as another special/movie on Netflix like Enter the Florpus) in some form it wouldn’t be so confusing to most.
I stopped reading the ZiM comics a LONG time ago, before there was ever really any ongoing plot, after my local comic shop closed down, and just never got back into it. So, safe to say, I have NO idea what's going on here but the RAW EMOTION present is phenomenal and is making me seriously consider diving back into the comics once we can go out in public again lmao... this is so, so, SO well done and you should be incredibly proud of your work. The fact that this illustrates a story I'm totally unfamiliar with but manages to convey the plot with astounding clarity is wonderful and honestly I think it's a better composition than the original scene from tangled. It feels SO much more involved with really deliberate movements from both characters, a great transition of backstory, and a brief look into what i can only assume is a full on war - it's absolutely AMAZING!!
Daisy I recommend reading that arc in the comic series. It’s pretty interesting. If your wondering the context here, long story short (without major spoilers) it involves alternative timelines/dimensions.
Slight spoilers: Zim's from the Multiverse get lured by a "Zim" that fused with Dib via his PAK. This Zim was the result of Dib finally beating Zim but no one took Dib seriously even when faced with undeniable evidence. Dib installed Zim's PAK into his head and their brains sort of melded together and the PAK fused to his head. Together they are Zib a fusion so intelligent and demented he was convinced he needed to Enslave the Earth in order to save it and when he tried he accidentally killed everything in the universe except himself.
@@ObaREX Zib is basically a combination of Evil Morty and Ice Finn. A boy driven insane by something he shouldn't have messed with and as a result destroyed everything he cared about and the unexpected real ruler of a world inhabited by variants of a single person and is shockingly more dangerous than any of them.
@@scp049isnotafurryitsjustab3 did you read the comics that this is a reference to? Invader Zim chapter 49, if you only want the story about this just read chapters 46-49. It’s a good read
@@scp049isnotafurryitsjustab3 So short summary, Zim(the one we normally follow) erased all alternative timelines, until he was the only one left. Long summary: Each and every Zim Timeline has a Zim that makes them different from the rest, extermination gone wrong, some get turned into meat yadda yadda. And Zim(the one we follow) are a packing peanut by accident. So in his shame he made sure (or rather he made gir) to travel through each timeline and make sure that they also ate the packing peanut thus not making their timeline a different timeline, thus erasing all alternative Zims and their timelines throughout existence.
Its Zim, what did you expect lmao he traumatized Dib by letting him get through an entire lifetime of a virtually made reality to expose him of throwing a muffin at his head Also organ episode
I love how fitting the song and storyboard are. Going hand and hand with one another. The storyboards being so detailed and clean with professional and experienced skill obvious in each panel. I can’t stop myself from watching this on repeat because of the care and music 😁
He would be bewildered that someone turned Black comedy into a drama. Jhonen Vasquez doesn't treat this series seriously. Many episodes and isuues ends on world blowing up or death.
@@worldwatcher6999 I dunno. If Enter the Florpus taught me anything... Jhonen has a deep connection to his characters (especially Dib) that he's never willing to admit (like Zim, lol).
@@ObaREX He actually said that if he could go back and change something in the TV series it would be to add more warm moments or something, particularly between the Membranes (hope I spelled their last name right) because the series was basically complete chaos, but they've all learned a few things now that they are working on the comic.
This is possibly one of the best made animatics I’ve seen in years. I can’t stop watching this and picking up on details I may have missed before, there’s just so much thought put into this. Everything is choreographed beautifully and the expressions are so dense with emotion, it’s hard not to love this. You’ve actually motivated me to keep reading the comic because I’m so excited to see this arc now. Great work dude :’)
Hi, I have a question where I can see the comic, I really need to read it, but I can't find it, it seems as if it had vanished, even if it is, can you give me the name to see if it's on Wattpad? because seriously I've seen several videos but nothing of the comic please if you have the lik pass it to me and sorry for my English because I'm from a hotro country
Honestly, idk if I’d call Zib a “fusion” of the two or more of an Irken Invader Dib, but I guess the end result’s the same... He DOES say he altered the PAK first, which is why it didn’t completely replace his mind with Zim’s, which is what the unfinished episode 10 Minutes to Doom teaches us would happen. It’s just, Dib and Zim weren’t as different as they liked to think to begin with. Only difference is, Dib can grow and change. Personally, I headcanon that Zib *thinks* he’s Irkenized!Dib, and that he removed all of Zim’s personality from the PAK... but even if he removed the personality itself successfully, he didn’t account for Zim’s being a living computer virus... had it been another Irken’s, maybe the PAK wouldn’t have changed him so drastically... (though his willingness to wear it at all says otherwise.) So whatever “defect” makes Zim the way he is... it was still there when Zib installed it, because he had no other PAK to compare it to and assumed that part was as it should be. He doesn’t see how Zim-like he’s become because, ironically, he’s got Zim’s inability to face an unpleasant reality. He’s too Zim to recognize his own Zimness.
Watching this for the nth time AND IT NEVER GETS OLD. I don't even watch invader Zim and yet I feel like I know everything that's happening in the screen, I sympathize with all the characters I only met in 3 minutes. That alone speaks volumes on how marvelously this animatic is done. That being said favorite scene is this 0:55, I can tell you had fun timing this part cause I had fun re-watching it.
I don’t leave comments a whole lot but as someone who is also working on animating and loves IZ I just want to say how incredible this is!!! You’re art style is so cute OMG I could just die!!!! This deserves SO much more attention!
my favorite parts are 1:53 where the screen comes up behind dib and the very end. really fun and well planned animatic, i've watched this a billion times!
After watching this many times I noticed a new, small detail. Our Dib has a shirt has a ghost with black eyes and Zib has the same shirt but with X_X eyes on the ghost. Interesting.
I've been working on an IZ comic series called "The Road to Nowhere." This animatic lit a fire under me to actually start it, and I come back to this video regularly to get me pumped up to keep going. Thank you. Thank you for this masterpiece.
(S P O I L E R S ) I felt very sorry for Zib as he was able to achieve what he always wanted, defeat Zim, but no one took him seriously, no one cared. I guess all that feeling that nobody cares about your achievements must be harsh, and he led him to do what he did. Killing even his father and Gaz. Even OUR Dib didn't agree with what he was doing and told him to his face that something was wrong with him. To finally Zib be left totally alone in the dark, in the middle of all the mess that he himself had caused...
The details you noticed from the difference of an Irken or the (Pak) and a human is astounding, it took me rewatching this 5 times to realize the Alien Dib doesnt have ears or a nose
One of if not THE best animatic for both Invader Zim and this song itself. The detail put into this, the way you used the sounds in the song as an advantage for what happens in this. The expressions really sell it. All I can say is, well done.
This is absolutely amazing and I live for every second. the linework is so clean, the backgrounds work so well and it makes me crave the zimvoid arc to be animated like a musical tragedy. I love how you interpreted Zib's backstory and the use of pak legs for the pure purpose of posing dramatically (zim + Dib's dramatics = Musical dramatics) You do a good job of framing everything and I was watching this on loop since that WIP you dropped on tumblr awhile ago. I just love this a lot.
@@savythenillerwaffer twitter.com/samandfuzzy/status/1273693291586875392 one of the artists of the issues also posts to say how good it is, and so does the Original Storyboarder of the Tangled scene!! so that's the writer of the issue, the artist of the issue, and the storyboarder for the song, and they've all definitely seen this and loved it. so thats pretty cool!!
There's so much I want to say to you, Shandzii. I watched this animatic before watching anything to do with Invader Zim. I didn't even watch the movie before this! But seeing this without any context... It didn't make me confused at all. I was intrigued about who the two near-identical boys in trench coats were, I was intrigued by what the weird creatures who looked like bugs wearing clothes were. But most of all, I knew that I had stumbled upon a gem. Through the vast Abyss of RU-vid, I had found one of the few animatics that looked so clean, so fluid, so dang eye-pleasing, that I could've sworn on first glance that it had been storyboarded by a professional artist. I had known about Invader Zim, but I had been too nervous to watch it. I'd heard that it was grim and gritty and ugly, and that honestly isn't the type of stuff I'd choose to watch. Even listening to Vivziepop of all people praising the show, (while drunk, no less) though it made me respect the show, didn't make me want to watch it. But this. This masterpiece caused me to think, 16 years after the show's end, "Screw it! I'm gonna watch this show!" And I was not disappointed. Though the tone of the cartoon wasn't really my style, I was enthralled by the worlds and characters which were never fully explained. And I liked that. It gave me room to fill in hundreds of headcanons to flesh out the world (and fuel my daily dose of angst and fluff without fear of being proved wrong). Even though the creator of the show did not intend for people like you to add such beautiful headcanons to the story, it didn't deter you and millions of other people from having fun and going bezerk. I have the utmost respect for these types of people, who create controversial things just because it makes them feel good. You made me watch the entire show, then the movie, before even reading the Zimvoid Arc. And I do not regret a minute of it (except maybe those times I tried and failed learning how to draw Irken heads). You are, alongside your group of friends, Lazy Eule, Aimasup and Vivziepop, my artist inspirations. And I will try to support you in any way I can, though what I can do at the moment is small. I don't have a Tumblr account. I'd prefer not to get cut up in drama over the internet. No, I much prefer roasting someone when I can see their face. But maybe, I could possibly create one in a few years, just so that I can gush about how amazing you are. I'd love to be a part of Moo-Ping 10 Discord Server, meet you, Melody, Chowy, Lily and Dana, and perhaps... Be your friend? I know you probably know nothing about me, and you have fans asking you this all the time, but I do feel like you deserve the best of luck, love, success and happiness. I've lurked around your Tumblr, like a Dib, and everything you've said has made me proud of you. I don't mean to sound like a creep, or worse, like a Keef, but you are just... One of the most amazing people on the internet. You're funny, smart, valid, and extremely talented. I want to be just like you someday. Well then, I've said enough to make you uncomfortable. If you don't mind, I'm gonna go re-read stuff from your Mermaid AU. Stay magnificent!
WOW. There's so much potential for emotional depth in Dib's character and this song really knocks the finale of that storyline out of the ballpark! Coincidentally, I was looking for some music to add to my drawing playlist and this song perfectly fits the rivalry between the hero and villain of the comic strip I work on as well.
@@gaaraxnaru It's essentially the final story of the Invader Zim comic series. There's a single story issue that follows it, but this story feels more like a series finale in my opinion.
So I am new to Invader Zim And also I have no idea what I'm watching The Important thing is that despite not knowing the context or anything about this, you pulled me right in and now I'm desperate for more. I swear, you're destined for great things, the screenwriting, the visuals, the emotions, AH I'm dying. I'm going to be thinking about this animatic for years to come. Congratulations, you just got yourself a sub.

Okay. Okay. *Okay* .So, after watching 6 times, I am finally able to wrap myself around this BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE. Out of every single IZ animatic i have seen.... this is by far the BEST one out there. I’m true to my word here. It’s... *WOW*!! The transitions, the grayscale, the emotions, movements- OSBFKSND my favorite has to be how you gave us a quick glimpse of Zib’s PAK legs extracting and then we go back to his front and they move when he speaks. It was so clever and menacing skfjsjdj. And THE WAY DIB’s CAPE MOVES WHEN HE IS MOVED AROUND BY THE ROBOT ARMS- •explodes•
Omg this is amazing! It was choreographed so perfectly that I forgot it was an animatic and not a legitimate scene! Thx for making something from the comic series because the whole arc with Zib was honestly amazing, just like this vid!
I always today years old when I found out there was an invader zim comic (and this animatic SLAPS. even though Ive never heard of this comic until I saw this I’m still able to understand the story. Amazing job 👏👏👏)
@@stephenbyrne3909 There's a lot of hidden lore in the Invader ZIM series that was never openly referred to in the end. Most of it about Irken society and the ID Paks. Long story short, it's essentially a parasitic device that fuses with an Irken's body and reprograms them to be what they consider "perfection." So it's basically doing the same thing to Dib. It's fused with his mind and is actively working to rewrite his DNA to make him Irken.
I’ve never been a invader Zim person but I love tangled the series is awesome. And u brought this to my attention and now I wanna read it, watch it, and become it. Thank you
I did the same XD When I saw this video in my recommends I was like "Comics?!", then I put the video on Watch Later, searched the comics, read the whole thing (it took some weeks) and then I came back here and watched the video.
I don't know anything about the comics, but having watched the show, I can still appreciate this. Watching it, I can tell how much effort went into this animatic. It's beautiful!!! Also the events in the animatic syncing up with the sound effects in the song is great.
Was this the best Zim animatic ever made? Yes. Did I spend $20 to get Volume 10 of the Zim Comics so I could read the Zimvoid because of this video? Again, yes. I regret nothing.

Why is this literally Peter Parker trying to get through to Dr. Otto Octavius(Dr Octopus) I love how even in this the machine that controls the extra legs is literally attached to his brain or at least his head. XD
I've started reading Invader Zim after seeing this. The series is of course very different in tone, but I already really love it. Thank you for making this! and inspiring me (and probably others) to go check the series out
