/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul, and this video we're breaking down Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
-
I think this is easily one of the best horrors ever made and even before seeing it it's a film I felt I knew everything about. That ending shot's one of the most iconic things in cinema and it's the build up to it that makes it even more impactful. It's something I think that Secret Invasion should've been and the tone and atmosphere are absolutely chilling.
Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down the movie to talk about all the things that it does expertly. Whether it's the characters constantly staring at our heroes in the background or just the subtle things that it does with the garbage trucks. There's so much that we need to unpack and I can't wait talk about all the layers in it.
So come with me my last surviving Type H and let us get into Invasion Of The Body Snatchers!
-
Now at the time of it's release the movie was heavily criticised for being an unecessary remake. You have to remember kids this was back when Hollywood had new ideas and not everything was a sequel or reboot. Even back then sequels were seen as stupid because movies weren't thought of as being IP. Though I think that the film deserved to be made, it has to be said the originals great too. That was released in 1956 with both being based on the body snatchers book.

I always felt these films criticize human nature. Humans tend to let their emotions get out of control and as a result we have so many "isms" that end up dividing us and limiting our achievements as a species. The aliens do not have these emotions and as a result more often than not are the victors of this franchise.

oohhh look at you Paul... finally waking up to the Holly-woke problem🤨....... Anyway I prefer Nicole Kidman's version in this case.. you know.. back when a woman could be a feminist without being a disgusting piece of sh%$^it 😕 .. Is actually a sleaze ball kind of guy there.. but the dude is a somebody.. so Kidman's character do not disrespect the man🤫.... she wins his approval in the way that a real woman should do.. intelligently😠.. being more evolve.. As women supposedly are😠😠..... yeah.. back when we use to have good script writers also🤷‍♀...... is a more simple movie.. buy more interesting that the others..... I also love how being a more "modern" movie.. the first thing that the protagonist is doing in the firs scene of the movie.. is looking for drugs😂😂.......... the one from the 90's with the girl from Scent Of A Woman.. is excellent also.. more action oriented😎.. and back when woman were beautiful in movies and TV....... Now Something that has always bothered me.. the male protagonist in that movie.. the helicopter guy🧐..... ¿¿ is he trying to hook up with a minor??. taking her to bars at night 🥴.. .. I mean.. the female protagonist.. supposedly is a teenager ¿right?🤔

@jimmyolsenblues
@jimmyolsenblues 2 месяца назад
@@beestingza The concept of "body snatchers" in biology typically refers to parasites or organisms that invade and take over the bodies of other organisms. Here are a few examples: 1. **Parasitic Wasps**: Some species of parasitic wasps inject their eggs into the bodies of caterpillars. The wasp larvae then develop inside the caterpillar, eventually consuming it from the inside out. 2. **Zombie Ant Fungus**: The Ophiocordyceps unilateralis fungus infects ants, taking control of their bodies. It compels the ant to climb to a high point before killing it and releasing spores to infect other ants. 3. **Toxoplasma gondii**: This parasitic protozoan can infect various warm-blooded animals, including humans. It alters the behavior of rodents, making them less fearful of cats, which increases the chances of the parasite reaching its primary host-the cat. 4. **Cuckoo Birds**: Cuckoos lay their eggs in the nests of other bird species. Once hatched, the cuckoo chick often pushes the other eggs or chicks out of the nest, ensuring it receives all the parental care. These examples demonstrate how various organisms have evolved strategies to invade and exploit the bodies of other organisms for their own benefit.

The key is balance and being “rebellious” with regard to things that, upon contemplation or experience and reflection, we feel compelled to avoid. Many times rebellion that in general is associated with coming of age - but it can become habitual. With long term consequences… both mental and physical. Rebels without a cause piss. Me. Off.

I always appreciate anyone who can see the pure brilliance of this movie! It terrified me as a kid in the 70's...and it STILL terrifies me today as a GenX grandma!

I saw this as a kid in the movie theater, and that final scene is one of the scariest I’ve ever experienced! Like when you’re aware of being in a nightmare but can’t get out of it.

Aren’t some of the people that notice him other people who realise what’s going on but refuse to step out of line and be replaced. There could be many people hiding in and amongst the pod people. Trapped.

I like to imagine this is almost like an extension of “The Thing” and how that might play out when the Things gets to civilisation.

I saw this in the theater when I was younger. My dad loved classic sci-fi so I'd seen the original on TV several times. I remember the ending being so chilling and almost not believing that it had really ended that way. In those years there was no way to give the movie another viewing until years later when the video finally came out.

I’m surprised you failed to mention that the man in the bath house talking about the book- was Martin Landau. That voice is unmistakable. Huge star- can’t imagine why this cameo wasn’t even mentioned…

Same! I'm 55 and we had HBO, but my buddy had The Movie Channel which would show R-rated movies all day long. We saw this one as well as the original Friday the 13th at like 10am, what a mentally healthy way to start the day as a young lad 😆

I saw this in the theater as a teen knowing little about it and not having seen the original yet. I believe Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy were the only actors I knew. It was an incredible experience, loved every moment and still do. This video was a real pleasure, I learned so much and will be having a mini marathon of the 1956 version followed by this one very soon. Thank you!

In recent years I spun this movie off a hundred times. First saw it on television for the first time when I was 10 years old in 1980 in East Vancouver. One of my faves. About unconscious compliance towards extreme transformations that become the norm. Hmmmmm, what could that possibly mean? Lol What it reminds me of is the point that some of the social and political tensions have been with us for decades. Most of us owe it to ourselves to READ (yes read, I said it) the groundbreakers like '1984 'and 'Brave New World ' to show us what certain shifts at the turn of the century left us spinning towards . Its always there. In the past, in the present and in the madness to come. Hang On tight.

Nimoy’s glove is actually a carpal tunnel brace. It is said earlier in the film that he turns out books almost every 6 months so he has probably been writing long enough for it to set in. Notice how he never wears after being confirmed as a POD.

I think the Cold War fears of the 50s version played into the idea that they wouldn't win through military conquest but through the conquest of hearts and minds which interestingly is how the US tried to win in Vietnam.

6:40 the body snatchers work as a metaphor for any ideology: All the ideologies claim to be correct and have all the answers we need, so all of them are monopolistically competitive against each other. Any one ideology would stop us from questioning many things if all other ideologies were eliminated.

The 70s remake was the best one. It conveys the essence of the horror perfectly, and the way it was shot is unsettling. I relate to that feeling of everyone else losing their minds and being conformists and the few rational people becoming outsiders.
