Beside the fact that NATO expansion is a red line for Russia, there are internal problems in Ukraine itself such as a civil war which started no long after 2014 state coup, neo-nazis who support Bandera (these groups are financed and supported by the US). This people were and still killing innocent people in Donetsk and Luhansk republics, politics aiming to cease the use of Russian language and to rewrite history, shut down pro-Russian media, etc. It was Crimean people decision to re-join Russia therefore a democratic referendum took place. Yes, there was Russian army present on the peninsula at the time of referendum but not a single shot reported. It was there to enable the referendum takes place peacefully. Economic sanctions on Russia would DRASTICALLY decrease the already poor quality of life in Russia. If countries decided to fight Russia, military spending would increase more than it has already and take away from other needs, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. This is a war that would be fought with more advanced weaponry and on a much larger scale. Casualties would be huge. This invasion, unlike Iraq, could literally start WW3. Combined with how China's ambassador to the US recently brought up the possibility of military conflict over Taiwan. This is bigger than you realise. We're onto the second cold war.

True, but back then they faced a poorly eqipped and poorly trained Ukrainian army. And the rest of the world stood back and watched, and sort of accepted Crimea as a loss. However, today the Ukranian army is both better trained and with much better equipment, sure its nothing compared to Russia. But this time, if Putin decides to invade, many western countries will help Ukraine…. And in case of a full out war, yes Putin may not lose, but he sure as hell won’t win either…no one will..

About Crimea… now they are holding it without many military people. At least no more than in usual Russian boundary region. And you talk about it like Crimea is temporary under Russian control. There is no sign that this situation will change.

the huge misconseption is that Crimea was "taken", lmao. I live in Crimea and pretty much everybody here willingly chose Russia over Ukraine, which never gave a damn about us. They even prohibited Russian language in Ukraine, and nobody here speaks Ukrainian. We will never go back

@@Pathenic Its funny and itonic you say that, the only reason Crimeans speak Russian is because Ukrainian was banned in the lower Ukrainian regions by Tzarist Russia in order to destroy their Cossack identity and Russianize them. And from the looks of things, it worked perfectly .
