If you're in an off-grid situation, you can use any type of generator to power your charger(s), then use a "pure sine" inverter to connect your living space. Of course, IF you really need super clean power...most of us off-grid folks don't typically have the sensitive electronics anyway. Your budget and needs will always dictate.

I tried using a UPS from a generator and the UPS wouldn't use the "dirty power."

We have one with 2 batteries and 400 watt solar panels. We use it on our camper on our property and we have had no problems. It works great. We run TV, lights, microwave, and refrigerator. We use about 20% from dusk to dawn. It is a little expensive, but it is easy to use and the wife and grandkids can set it up.

Anyone back feeding a house I recommend using an inverter generator spend the extra money, my old generator was not an inverter, I lost 1 battery back up in my game room and messed up my sound bar in my living room. I bought a big inverter dual fuel generator and run it on propane, I also added a UPC on all my living room electronics, 1 for my router and one for my garage door, now when my power goes out I have about 30 minutes to get the generator out and going without interfering with those thing working. Also with all the electronics is everything today, like a fridge etc… I wouldn’t risk damaging them on a non inverter generator.

Can you do an aftermarket rectifier/ inverter for a open frame generator that doesn’t have that built in instead of buying a new inverter generator

you know that is the first time I have ever been asked that question. Not that i know of atleast not that i haven't seen. however you could use your generator to charge a battery bank and then pull power out of that via a pure sine wave inverter

Is it (having an inverter gen vs traditional gen) really that critical though? Most (nearly all) electronics already come with an AC/DC power adapter (rectifier). Thanks for the video!

In my experience, any electronics, especially modern stuff has not liked jagged, no pure sign wave power they just won’t run onto the tall

thanks your videos are always so informative but I have a question bought a 10,000 wh dual fuel generator this past December kept it in its box 📦 until July box fell apart so I keep it covered with tarps but have not run it yet could it get damaged if I keep it that way never have put fuel in it what is your advice thanks 🙂

Over time parts will corrode and seals will dry out and degrade. Best to run it to get oil and fuel through it. Not good to leave untreated gas in it very long either.

need to have the option to possibly power a CO2 laser and laptop with other electronics harbor frieght has a new 13000 watt tri fuel generator but it isnt a invertor generator, is there anything I can out between the generator and the electronics to clean up the power supply ? I am not techy so please help

Inverters do not "filter" DC power. They take DC power and convert it to AC power. There is no reason why power from an inverter, which is a semiconductor switching circuit, is inherently cleaner than power from a rotating AC generator.

Dude, this video is awesome! I'm just learning about these inverter generators. Was looking at the traditional one's originally, until I was advised to use an Inverter Gen. I have a car that is soon to likely to die and I have been considering a crazy thought... I'm tempted to rip out my engine and install an electric motor that would be powered via batteries that have constant access to the generators power. I'm sure I have some engineering blunders in my logic somewhere, but it's worth a try! Thanks Tim!! :D
