based on the reddit Thread: / how_can_i_fix_rattling... I wanted to see if there was more to understand the fix and the issue. Seems to be a common issue after about 2 years of use.
I've been able to fix mine successfully, with no sound quality loss. I used a rotary tool to cut a notch into the edge of the aeropexes, then used a flathead screwdriver to pry them open. The inside is just a plastic shell, so there's no worry about damaging it. The inside has some copper "wires" acting as a spring, and one of them had cracked. It caused a jingling sound (which I'm not sure is the same as the rattling as everyone else has.) I soldered the cracked "wire" back together and now it works just fine, aside from being ugly where I tore it apart. It doesn't look like RU-vid will let me link the images but they're in my comment on the reddit thread.
Additionally, if you open them up from the other side (the side that touches your head), you'll be able to see the open side of the drivers, which has the "wires" you're talking about. As far as I can tell they're only supposed to be attached on the outer side of the headphones, which seems a bit weird but that's why you can't see anything from the angle you had.
@@widget_pls very intersting I have the other side I could look at opening, and looking at the one I opened there is a crease where the two sides fit together. I'd worry about either fit and feel or soldering being a more advanced fix.
It seems ike such a common issue that I am surprised Shokz has not found a way to address it correctly. I when thrugh 2 Aeropex with the same problem. My first one, only one side failed and it was still under warranty so Shokz sent me a free replacement. The second one failed on both sides another year later, out of warranty. It was mor that just a rattle. it sounds like there's a little bell in each earpiece. I am fairly careful with mine and I don't drop it so I was very disappointed with the sturdiness (or lack of). I still love the technology so I bought the Openrun Pro. I how they are built better than the Aeropex.
the auto focus thing was alittle annoying, to fix it just make sure you have enough light on the item that you want to shoot! because you were blocking the light! hence the random auto focus
Hello I had the same issue and it happened to even a replacement headset that I received, so I hope they fix that issue because they really are the best bone conducting headphones. I was able to fix mine making with a utility knife a very small hole but in the bottom close to the outside edge (so wont be so noticeable) and pushing in some soft plastic, I think something that gets hard will affect the sound, so it worked.
Fixed my super-cheap ones the same way with the exception that I used a hot-glue gun (which I already have). The Suger-glue thing probably costs more than my headphones, so I wasn't too fussed if it didn't work. But it did.
In three years I have gone through 6 pairs of Aeropex by Aftershokz (now Shokz). I just bought my 7th pair. Technically it's only my 4th purchase, as 3 of the previous 6 pairs were all warranty replacements. I love these headphones, but this rattle is a fatal flaw. It was the cause of 4 of the 6 previous pair's deaths. And every time I got for the warranty, Aftershokz plays dumb as if this is the first time they've heard o f this problem. I call BS. This latest pair is the OpenRun. 98% the same headphone. Just renamed and give a slightly faster charging capability, but I'm hoping they took the time to fix this issue. I doubt it. $500-600 over three years for headphones is unacceptable and unsustainable.
Hate to tell you but I'm on my 2nd openrun pro. I was just thinking of making a video of cutting open my broken openrun pro to see the difference in design. The Pro has better features in it's app, but it's much less water proof. My new set that I've had about a year have a little rattle but nothing to terrible yet. Yes it's unfortunate, I use these headphones all day everyday and they are great except they seem to wear out and start to rattle. Maybe like you said they charge 100$ but they only cost like 10$ so as long as they don't send you 10 replacements they still make money? And they get lots of people that just don't warranty them?
I'm on my second Openrun Pro. My Aeropex, three pairs my dog killed never did this rattle. I'm going to try the glue technique and see, since I'm sure it will, happen to my warranty pair as well. Also as eveyone has stated, I have called in warranty on every pair including a warranty pair. They are the greatest headphones ever until they aren't. But they replace them knowing we all keep coming back for more.
Is there a better way to oen them without runing the outershell? I feel like filling the inside with glue will stop the rattling, but it will also reduce the sound quality a lot if the speaker can't move at all.
I haven't seen any better options, and yes I've heard too of some people "over filling" it and it being worse. I thought I saw some one too solder it to fix it. Seems like here's a small wire that over time wears out and breaks which makes the speaker start to rub against the sides. @widget_pls said he fixed his with a rotary tool.
Get a small rare earth magnet ( harbor freight has a pack for a few bucks) put a small dab of glue on it and let it attach itself to either inside or out , doesn't matter other than your preference. Still has the flex therfore sound quality and magnet holds the speaker in place so by by rattle. I noticed on the inside. I'm kind of bug your ear a little bit. But on the outside it can be seen. if you get a small enough Magnet. it's doesn't matter. It looks like It Belongs there.
These that i took apart were replaced once by them so hopefully that works out for you. It's interesting to see the issue is pretty common I wonder if its' from dropping them or sometimes when you take them off they can kinda "spring" from the band. I did the fix from the reddit thread, I think the only trick is not to really Over fill it, but just put a little silicon in there to stop it from moving as much.
@@olesideburns I wasn't the most careful with this pair. but, I have never placed much weight on them. I will attempt the fix once I get my replacement. Thanks
yeap no real repairability. I finally decided to get a new pair this helped me for a few months, but then i started having issues with disconnects/connecting to bluetooh more.
