Investigating New Mexico's Ghost Ranch! (6-42) 

Few places in the Southwest hold the mystery and charm of Ghost Ranch.
We start our day at camp in the Army Corp campground at Abiquiu Lake. We had hoped to camp along the Chama River but after getting stuck in mud above a 50 foot cliff, we decided not to travel on up the canyon and retreated to a safer landing!
Then it was off to Ghost Ranch. The history here is pretty amazing. The Archeletta brothers originally owned the area as a headquarters for their cattle rustling operations! To keep people away, the started stories of it being haunted by evil spirits and it became known as the Ranch of the Witches (actually, that's the translation from Spanish--don't ask me!).
What a wonderful place and, of course, you can buy a tour to go see the home here where Georgia O'Keefe lived for several years. We just took a walk through much of the grounds that were open to the public, including many buildings.
