There is a growing issue with crime being done explicitly within Hasidic communities in the north east United States. They have a cultural taboo against bearing witness to anything but a religious authority within the community but this doesn’t not work well when your religious authority involves themselves with organized crime. I am not implying this tunnel was used specifically for crime, I am implying that criminal entities were aware of its construction and similar construction might be used explicitly for what we consider crime. Someone from another youtube video said these tunnles also connect to a masonic grand lodge as well. He heard it from an important person while working in jail.

So the thing about New York, and really any old city but especially in the US, is that they have tunnels snaking all over the place under them from before the modern buildings were built. New York for example has several levels of tunnels under them, first from the old city and then the newer stuff that was built that manages all the power and the like. That's not really nefarious. But what these guys are doing is trying to dig out a new one on the surface which is rather bizarre.

Yea like this would not surprise as during prohibition and later when the mob was very prevalent in New York there were tons of tunnels used for stuff like smuggling illegal stuff and typically these tunnels were either never found and just walled off or were found and just walled off because it was easier than filling them in and these would over time be forgotten until for some reason they are uncovered

So it does not surprise me that in an old city like New York would have random tunnels for various reasons

The only reason why they're sealing quickly is because the owners of the building need it sealed as quickly as possible because it damages the structural integrity of the building and doesn't meet standards. They can find other entrances and investigate from there

@@kylefarrell25 Not that hard if its done over a long period of time. Throw a few bags of dirt in your dumpster and you can probably do the same with a couple neighbors. A trash bag is 55-60 gallons/210-230 liters, throw 2 bags worth into each biweekly trash pick up, thats around 100-120 gallons/400-440 liters a month, if you do the same to say 2 neighbors you could rather easily hide hundreds of gallons or over 1000 liters of dirt a month. Depending on their transport situation they could each sneak a small trash bags worth (5-20 gallons/18-75 liters) in their trunk every time they visit and dispose of that discretely. Dirt is hard to hide when you try to get it all out at once but easy to hide if its done over weeks and months.

@@kylefarrell25 we dont know yet the time frame, but that's 100% something that will be investigated. I work in construction and New York City has some of the most strict building codes and enforcement in the US so they'll certainly be looking into this pretty deeply. I cant imagine this was a quickly dug tunnel since that requires noisy equipment, but picks and shovels, while slower, are quiet enough for most people to never notice. I'm not a geologist but from what I've read and seen NYC is mainly built on sand and till, both are relatively easy to dig in so it's not unreasonable to think they used mainly shovels and picks.

Yeah but as a structural engineer you also should realize there are no concrete forms to pour into in any of these scenes. So how exactly are they "filling it in tonight"? To me that's the most worrying thing. They are doing just as much damage if this is poured improperly as the tunnel itself is creating. Condition affected lifespan of the new concrete is affected by the old concrete. You'll still need a bonding agent to properly pour onto old concrete. There are so many factors involved that it was outrageous that the police officer thought they'd get it fixed in a single night.

not gonna be filled in a night, but highly flowable concrete does exist and is used regularly. you wouldn't use forms for this other than to seal the hole, then its pumped in via hose. Not gonna be a perfect fit, but it doesn't need to be.@@mnspstudioful
