Lot of confusion in the comments about the deck and shufflemaster. To clarify, the shufflemaster isn't rigging the deck, it's just able to know what hand will win based on the sequence of the cards. The deckmate 2 knows what every card is using a camera, in order to put a deck back into the normal sequence. If you cut a deck, you can still know which hand will win once you know a single cards new position (because then you will know where it is cut). The only way to prevent this is to riffle after a deck is shuffled, not cut. If you can figure out how to transmit that data you can cheat people.

I dealt at a higher stakes underground game ($5,000 minimum buy-in) in North Carolina for 4 sessions or so spanning 6 months from 2019-2020. There was a huge action player (name I will conceal for now). Turns out, he was pivotal to getting/providing shuffle machines, Deck Mate 2 for the game. I could tell he was cheating (because of the unbelievable "run-good" he had and I thought it was the machines directly as well. But I became convinced that he actually had provided the cards, which were barcoded, and used a "Chinese" phone device with a scanner to scan the cards once shuffled. (The device is a power hog and he had to be plugged in to power charger. He sat in seat next to the dealer, seat 9 in the 9 handed game, and always 100% had 1 EarPod in.) I'm not sure why the shuffler was so pivotal, but I'm sure it was for at least a minor reason. Was it for pace? Was it for placement of the deck during the cut to scan the deck from a predictable/optimal location?) I'm not sure. But long story short, a scanning device was the cheating mechanism I believe. The scanner was a fake phone. The cheating person scanned the cards, and an audio relay told him in his ear the seat (relative to the button) that would win the hand (another catch-he always made sure to deal everyone in even if they weren't there). Once I figured out the components to the scam, I found the device on RU-vid being advertised for purchase... see one of those exhibitions here. Another time, this player brought a card mechanic dealer and that angle was also very obvious to me. The solution is simple really. Get a shuffle-machine that shuffles with no knowledge of what cards are missing etc. Combined with a real dealer doing multiple cuts/short shuffles and counting cards during hands. Or just hire Mike Postle to wipe out potential cheaters with advanced crotch-tactics.

Almost ALL cheaters use a process of diversion, where they engage in some sort of controversial behavior, that has nothing to do with the actual scam. So if the supposed authorities ask witnesses if such person was doing anything suspicious, they will all say yes, and all recount the weird behavior. This leads the supposed authorities to investigate the wrong thing.

I don't play PLO at Aria anymore since there seems to be two to three players working together raising and reraising putting one player going all in against those players making winning less likely. Even during WSOP cash games there's obvious team work. Can one get RFID detector to test the cards with? Too many cheating aligations in poker can discourage new players or even existing players. Keep up the good work Papi.

I've been playing since 1968. Cheating has always been a part of the game unfortunately. Seen many forms of it over the years. Not familiar with the technology with the shuffle machines but if there's a way to us them to cheat, I'm sure someone has figured it out and is doing it.

the "prime" cardroom crew has been together since 2001. i played in their games intermittently until 2013. in my opinion, they're not into poker, they're into crime.

We obviously don’t have any strong watchdog organizations in poker and so it’s extra important that us players do our best to protect the integrity of the games and industry. Shining a light on any potential wrongdoing is a great protector and makes future bad actors less likely to do go through with their plans.

The lack of oversight in any of the Texas cardrooms is unbelievable. How is this allowed!? Cheating could happen so easily. And with the amount of money in those rooms it would be naive to think cheating isn't happening

I don't understand why everyone is always so shocked when cheating is "revealed". Poker attracts so many criminals, everyone wants to win and make money at poker and almost everyone would jump at it if given the chance. Poker is dead, especially online. This has nothing to do with poker anymore, it's roulette with cards. Everything would have to be examined, every stone turned. The scale of fraud would be unimaginable.

The shuffler is the exact reason the casino's keep Ultimate Texas Holdem smashing their patrons. I was told on Shreveport, that if they didn't use the cut card in the correct position or if they changed the order in which they disperse the hands, the dealer would be fired. If you guys think it's easy for the house to win consistently, buy a table, hand shuffle, and fade every friend and family member at Thanksgiving and let me know how well that goes for you. No doubt in my mind the shufflers are giving them the wins. Only way to trick the machine is for the players to sit out hands in different positions, and sequences.

Joey, there are devices that scans the markings of the cards when they are completely shuffled. These markings can be on the side of the cards. These marks can be invisible like a bar code. It may not even be the shuffling machine. It could be a device close enough to the deck that can literally scan the entire deck and then get transmitted to a readable device like a phone.

I do not play poker on tables with machine shufflers. The way the cards are distributed is not the same as a hand shuffle.

Good stuff Joey, seems interesting because cards are usually cut by the dealer after the machine shuffles. Unlike that shit place Stones in Sacramento, the dealers don’t cut the cards after the machine shuffle. The reason is they get more hands in per down and they don’t have to deal with tilting players berating dealers. Without cutting cards, I can imagine how something like this can be retrieve by a device.

It's a bit suspect no ones talking about brynn or Ali anymore, all of a sudden Texas and much smaller stakes average players are being heavily accused. I'm not saying its not happening but.. 🤔🧐

I used to play poker at prime almost everyday till last year, new partners bring house players buy them in for tournaments go all in with any hands create action on table bust rebuy, bust and rebuy, it’s crazy. And if you look at the final tables at prime it’s always same guys, they never win any tournaments or make it final table outside of prime social. But its always same people who’s close friends with owners.

Long story short... Go back to self-dealing. Players will have to "deal" with the agony of waiting an extra 30 seconds for a human shuffle. This would solve the cheating problem...generally speaking

Hate to say it.. but cheating is just way too hard to always detect. I've always been very skeptical of games where buddies are playing together.. what's to stop them from ginning up action then splitting profits after sessions. 2 players working together can significantly alter the results at a table. Playing cash games is way too risky in Vegas, Texas, or anywhere else. I'm glad I got away from it. Having a predictable bank account is way underrated.

RNG isn’t as random as people believe. Poker rooms should only rent shufflers that are never sold.

I used to play blackjack at Aria back in the day when there were no machine shufflers at the high limit room. I never had a losing session. Once they introduced the shufflers in the room, I could never win. I quit playing there. Those things are rigged.

Why would a club install these machines if they aren't incentivised to do so? They don't take a rake so don't care how many hands per hour are dealt and these machines are pretty expensive to rent (from memory it's pretty hard to buy these things as the machine companies want a regular income by renting them out)
