FAA investigators are looking into an incident on April 17 involving a Swiss Air flight headed to Zurich which aborted takeoff after encountering “traffic on the runway.”

people dont realize how over worked and over stressed ATC controllers are rn.. its BADDD and thats saying something for that industry. its always bad

​@@xiangplaysI'd assume at a big airport they'd be even more trained lol. The fact is it's mainly due to fatigue and overwork and shortage but they definitely are trained sufficiently

These close calls seem to be happening more often.

I have heard that LAX regularly has close calls every year and even with the surveillance software that is supposed to prevent it from happening. So yeah, I think it happens somewhat regularly. The reason it hasn’t resulted in any recent notorious accidents is a result of luck, redundancy and well trained pilots.

wouldn’t surprise me. but there is both a pilot and ATC controller shortage. everyone is overworked, likely underpaid, too. the FAA only just revised their rest regulation within the past week.

Definitely is. ATCs are overworked and undermanned for the amount of flights. Airlines need to slow down before something tragic happens

Nope not the airlines mostly the airports faults they are the ones that allow how many planes come in at different time slots as well as how many come in a day. Which can be influenced by the airlines as they ask to have more planes come in but blame lands on the independent airport authorities.

ATC training is very tough that job is incredibly stressful. Honestly glad I didn’t make it through I’m better for it all of my instructors either in 3-4 marriage or divorced

It seems like this is happening more and more frequently in the last year or so. Sooner or later something bad is going to happen, and it’s a serious matter for me because my family lives in the nyc area and flys out of jfk frequently.

I’m sure the ATC staff are competent and hard working people. I think the problem is that that airlines require them to multitask on overseeing too much stuff at once. I can’t imagine how stressed they must be

To be fair, it used to be Swissair from 1931 until 2002. ... but yeah, that was 22 years ago. I would say that the reporter should have had ample time to look that up until now. 🤣

Staffing shortages? All I’ve ever wanted to do was work in aviation but I can’t make enough money to pay for rent and school at the same time. You can’t pick yourself up by your boot straps if you can’t afford boots.
