Most of his stocks are long term so monthly updates wouldn’t make sense, also the rise or drop in price could just be because of the state of the market and not necessarily cause the stock is valuable or not

There are people with enough financial knowledge who feel they don't need the help of mutual fund managers or other portfolio management services to make them money. So they do their own research and try to get more returns than they would get if they chose a mutual fund for eg.

U r right incase u wanna invest in anything better than FD just do a SIP. Incase u feel like u can go pro after sometime and not depend on SIPs which also ttake a good cut of profit ( still better than FDs) u can try to make ur own protfolio

I mean, 1st you need to be a pro to be a self investor, hence will have to spend good amount of time in learning, then even after making my own portfolio, I will have to regularly check my stocks performance, what to sell, what to buy, etc. Is that all worth it for earning that cut of profit that otherwise the expert would keep in case of SIPs?

The crux is invest in monopoly companies having a good cashflow , profitable growth ,and atleast 15% roce over the yrs. By doing this u don't hsve to constantly monitor your portfolio constanlty , and u also don't have to sell any share. He provides factual evidence on how constantly churning ur portfolio can affect ur overall returns. Read that .
